why not nuke all the accounts with less than say 200 posts that havent posted in the last six months

that would get rid of the pool of gimmicks being used

To bolster BigMC's advice, I've done a little poor man's analysis of the member pool here at GetBig.

There are 47,656 registered members. Of those:

- 35,499 (74.5%) have ZERO posts. None.
- 41,174 (86.4%) have less than 10 posts.

I am sure that you can get some great stats on "Last Post Date" to really understand that the person that registered the account IS NOT COMING BACK, and if that account is used, it was password-cracked and is now a gimmick.

You don't even have to delete them, you can just put them on hold, or institute an email verification system and reset all 42,000 to "need verification" to post. There's so many ways to deal with this gimmick pool.

I think that the best bet would be a simple query:

SELECT userID from Users where (DATEDIFF(NOW(), Users.lastPostDate) > (5*365)) and (Users.postCount < 10)

This would get you all of the single digit posters who haven't posted in 5 years. Mark them all as "pending" and you are good to go.
