very interesting.  It sounds tacky or corny or whatever, but real beauty is the actual person not the shell they are in.  We are trained to admire physiclal beauty and disregard the person.  That is why there is so much ugliness out there.  I have met some very "beautiful" people that are ugly inside and vice versa.

my sentiments exactly (although I happen to be born in a nice body too)

Beauty comes from within.  & with knowing and loving oneself.

For women it's often less about the beauty than other things, like personality.  A man can make up for a lack of physical beauty by exuding confidence, imagination, etc...

Anyway, Miggy, it's funny you say that, considering your avatar, lol.

as well as lovely in words...

Unfortunately we live in a superficial society these days that is totally focused on physical appearance. In fact you may have everything it takes to be “beautiful” but without being a genuinely good person inside, beauty is not complete. You need to be kind & loving in addition to your good looks. True beauty is in the heart of a person… without a beautiful heart you cannot love another fully. What we tend to forget is that the physical fades and it’s a persons’ inner beauty that stands the test of time. Now I’m not saying that a persons “prettiness” or “handsomeness” doesn’t play a role in the mating game (it is what first attracts us to someone) but a relationship based solely on this will never last.

You should first mind you own business it was a joke between deeds and myself. Second Have you not learned it's a nicer place here when you don't talk to me? I like when I just ignore you all together and suggest you do the same or I might have to play ruff with you again.

That all depends on your perspective. I don't want to say 'cause I don't want to make him blush,

there are a number of reasons:
1) you led the meltdown on the night I got melteddown
2) i still think you're YMBL and even perhaps Migs and maybe a man pretending to be a woman, no I'm kidding about that, you're just extremely perceptive.
3) when I posted some drunken but real thing about my poor eyesight you came straight back at me calling me blind.  GIve you half a chance and you'll take me right out...

You are perhaps the only reason I still keep coming back to this forum.  You hate me and are extremely funny.  I gave back as good as I got.

Interesting.  Reminds me of the book Tyra Banks wrote a few years ago where she showed her before and after pictures.  Confirms my belief that many of the women we see in magazines, etc. don't really exist.

I think beauty starts externally and evolves based on the woman's character, personality, etc.  I think a woman can go from Vanessa Williams to Whoppie Goldberg simply by opening her mouth.

Have any of you ever seen Whoopie Goldberg in person? She's actually a very attractive woman, and looks way better than she does on camera.

what is she holding back on camera for if she is so scary beautiful in person..?

I didn't say she's scary beautiful, ...but she is an attractive woman, far more so than what comes across on camera. My personal theory is, it's probably a combination of her not being photogenic, and people being lazy about shooting her properly. Afterall, she is a comedienne and not a sex pot, ...so they don't care. btw - my statement that she's not photogenic isn't to imply she unattractive. There are just some people that the camera doesn't like. They look much better in person than on film. And then there are those who look like crap in person, ...but the camera has a love affair with them nonetheless.

I would say IMHO that the camera hates her because she from what i have seen is not attractive. That being said I like her comedy and she comes accross like a really cool person that would be fun to hang with.

There are very few people that cannot be groomed, prepped, and coifed in such a way as to highlight their strong points and diminish their shortcomings to such an extent that they appear attractive.  There are just some people who look better in person than they do on film.  :-\  Maybe that's the real beauty. That quality that can reach out and speak to another human being, but incapable of being captured by a mere macine

I think guys who don't have guts enough to share their pictures have no business posting on a women's board calling a woman they do not know, and have never met unattractive based on nothing more than superficial & subjective qualities. That hardly makes for a nice cozy place for women to feel comfortable.  :-\

And to add to my  ::)  I do think there is subjective and objective beauty.  I'd say women like Vanessa Williams, Nicole Kidman, and Gabrielle Union are objectively pretty.  People like Whoopi, Anjelica Huston, and Lyle Lovett are not objectively pretty/handsome.

Strikingly what?   :)  She falls under the subjective category IMO.  Some consider her beautiful.  Some think she looks like a man.

I think Glenn Close is another.  My wife thinks Close is pretty.  I think she's really ugly.

I don't think Huston or Close is beautiful . . . but i have a feeling that if I was in a room with them, I'd have a hard time looking away. something about the person rivets the attention.

Yes true beauty comes from within, but if you're telling me you and many others don't judge "the outer facade," I will call you a liar.    :)  Don't tell me you've never looked at someone and thought they were, superficially, pretty or ugly, beautiful or hideous, etc.

Inner beauty is extremely important but the reality of the matter is that attraction is equally as important too. Inner beauty and qualities just get overlooked. The reality of the matter is that no one wants to be with someone that they find un-attractive.

No I think you did. She said we can't comment on someone unless we can be held up to the same standard. She brought up whoopie as someone who looked better in real life and not so well on film and I said I agree because on film she is not what "I" would call attractive, I stated she may me a nice person and fun to hang with but I do not think she is in any way pretty "to me". Its not like I brought it up as a slam or was attacking anybody. You really should read the whole conversation first next time.

Yea its all the men doing this but ladies always see the nice guy inside.Bull@#$! don't even try to pass off the looks don't matter speech as a guy problem, its a people problem. You could meet the best guy in the world sweet, caring, generous but if he had a hump and 3 eyes and smelled of poop you would look the other way also. If you say no then your lying.I am the first to say it takes more then looks to stay with someone but you are wrong to think its a one way street.

Plus not to slam Miggy Po (in my book the guy is a ace) but you only see what he wants you to see, this is not reality and if you think he is a sweet puppy dog and not a regular guy like everybody else your wrong there also.

oh before anybody gets upset this is a response not a attack so relax.

Been to a few already.  Pretty insane stuff in one of them.  The haunt was more like being the fly on the wall in different scenes.  Torture, house break ins, locked in the dark, etc.  Not supernatural ghost things.  The others have been the usual fun house and or haunted house and maze stuff.  These are great things to do with your girl.  It's a fun nite out.

Nope, ...wasn't saying that either.

I know you weren't. I was just trying to get clarification on what someone else meant. Anyway, it doesn't matter. This thread sure took a sharp left somewhere into outer space. I was just making a point about the reality of beauty and how much of a lie the advertising industry promotes. Maybe I should stick to fluff.  :P

there used to be a video floating around about how they mathematically assessed beauty and then made a program to make the perfect face (according to studies and measuremnts) it was very interesting.  The media promotes false ideals, however it is the people that buy into it that are to blame.

Fluff is for fluffers.  >:(

I think this was a fabulous topic especially for this board, ...and I commend you for having started it.  :)

ps - Glad to know you're not a Martian.  ;)

There have been a few. I remember seeing one with Paulina Porizkova years ago, and the contempt that seemed to be oozing out of her was palpable. She was like "This..." she said {gesturing to her face} "...this is nothing. It's only mathematics. IT MEANS NOTHING!"

The commentator then included the comment that Paulina must have been very sincere when she said that, ...then the documentary cut to a shot of Paulina and her new husband ...Rick Ocasek of the Cars.

People who "buy into it" are manipulated beyond even their own comprehension.
It's mainly North Americans tho, the same BS exists in Europe, ...but not to the same extent as it does here.

but people canchabge the ideals.  i dont buy into the hype of all the shit the media throws out there when it comes to beauty.  Maybe my mentality is slightly different since i grew up in a more european  houshold.  it's late im rambling and nothing good can come from that, lol

Ideals like those are what pays my bills.

I'm not ready for a change, maybe when I outgrow it, but not today.

{LOL} It's quite the dichotomy isn't it? On the one hand, you kind of want them to think like that,
...but at the same time, the more they do, ...the less you respect them or are flattered that they do.

You meet a guy, and he's falling all over himself over your 'beauty', ...but that's ALL he can see,
...so you're ready to toss him to the curb in 2 seconds flat. Kind of like when you meet what you think is a really cool guy, ...then he asks for your autograph, ...and you're just immediately turned off.   :-\

i worked in the restaurant business for a long time and have met clebrities.  never once did i ask for an autograph.  I also treated them like i did all my guests.  My thing was just respect their space and their privacy.  I did get invited to some events because the way i treated them though.  I thought that was cool.

you are right though, it is a dichotomy.  But much the same way when you  ( a woman) say that you want a nice guy, don't care what he looks like) then find the rugged good looking abd boy that treats you like sh*t, then wonder why?

Not to go off on a tangent (for long ;D ) but I've never understood the popularity of "the autograph."  I mean, people are people and most of us know how to write our own names.  I guess I just don't get why some people seek them out.

But, most people don't understand my attraction to sparkly things, so.....to each his own I guess. :P

lol you and crabs have the same attraction.  By crabs i mean the sea creature not the STD, lol.

I dont get autographs either.  beauty to me shines from the inside of the person.  Yes outwardl beauty is a catalyst to get to want to know someone.  I know i'm not a stud and that i may "miss out" on some opportunities.  but i rather be with someone that feels comfortable with themselves than with super gorgeous woman that has to always be made up.

There's nothing wrong with the autograph thingy, but it's all in the way it's asked. It's almost makes you wonder who he thinks he's talking to... you, ...or an artificial image of you he has in his mind based on some character you've played? That's the difference.

Who says women don't care what a man looks like? I think we do, ...we just don't judge a man's value as a human being, or deem him worthy of courtesy or respect, based solely on his looks. Generally, for women, looks are just a part of the package, the ribbon, ...but the rest of the package has to be there.

To simplify the analogy, ...we don't have a problem accepting a great gift that hasn't been gift wrapped with pretty paper and a nice bow, ...but if you give us a box with expensive wrapping and and a gorgeous ribbon on the outside, ...it better darned well have something good inside.  >:(

to me real beauty is when you wake up next to someone and fall in love with them all over again, not because they are physically attratvie, but beacuse of the way they make you feel

I agree.  I've never asked for one.  I could care less.  My kids, on the other hand, have several.  Not sure where they keep them.  The only one I saved for them was Arnold's.  He gave my daughter the only autograph in the building when he made a rare appearance at the bodybuilding show he co-promotes here.  I thought that was very nice of him.

Some people are into them. I don't think it's wierd if someone is into getting autographs,
...I just get uncomfortable when they want one from me. I'll get autographs for my friends tho.
I sometimes get a kick out of seing their excitement. I was working on a particular show up here, and a girlfriend in the States was so excited because she was such a huge, HUGE fan of the show as well as the star of the show. One day her husband was getting the mail, and he hands her this big 8.5 X 11 manilla envelope from Canada. She opened it up and nearly fell off her chair when she saw it was an autographed picture in the mail, personalized to her, from the star of the show, ...all dressed up in character. It just made her day.  :D

I love you guys . . . but clearly a couple of females weren't able to be objective about the topic.  And after projecting themselves into the thread (through Whoopi of all people) they pretty much cut short any discussion.  It's a great thread if you want to know how certain Canadian femmes personally react to men commenting on actresses, but that doesn't really answer the question . . .

And this is such a value to this thread....

When you even have an idea of what we were talking about then you can comment objectively.
You've missed the point.  It has nothing to do about actresses at all.

It is all about how certain males come on the board and are making it uncomfortable for certain females with their comments.

There are too many men on the girl board if we have to try justify ourselves to people who take cheap shots like this one.
My complaint for the record.

Have Fun

Did someone say foot massage?

I love massages from head to toes. The harder, the better.  No talking, just nature music, candles and lots of oil.

But a foot massage, those are the best.  The most memorable one was feet bathed in white wine, very memorable.

Lol, I hope it wasn't chilled.

But agree, nothing like a hard massage... rolfing/myofascial massage is the best!
