I like training back and shoulders together too.
seems to work well together, normally iīll train shoulders with arms or with just triceps.

I use to change up my training quite a bit through the years. One of my favorite splits was below.

Chest and arms
legs
back and shoulders

A good split & i remember doing something like

Incline BB press
Flat flyes
Close grip bench press
Dips (between benches at the time)
incline Tri Extensions (great stretch)

I think that was it & it was a great pump

That's what I'm doing right now.

Yates was doing that split prior to 1993. It's the one he used for the Night of The Champions.

On the subject of split routines, i actually find a full body workout harder. If i ever wanted to drop body fat fairly quickly i always used a full body workout consisting of basic lifts.

I loved full body routines when I was younger but they wear me out now.

yes and 3 times a week can be taxing on the recovery if training hard, for me anyway.
younger guys will probably have no problems.

Good point about recovery. I love 3 day full body's and that's what I do but they can be taxing as you increase your poundages. Harder to recover. I wonder if that's really the best workout for older naturals.

I think a 3 or 4 day split is best such as

Chest+arms
back+shoulders
Legs

whatever but i think thereīs a lot of time for recovery here.
Benching or squatting 3x a week is hard. your strength goes up fast but soon you hit a plateau.
Maybe if doing a full body workout it could be spread out more with more rest days inbetween workouts such as 2 full rest days between each session.
I did this & it worked well.
some people change exercises too each workout doing say fly movements one day & benches on the next workout, or whatever as nothing is carved in stone

I have to agree with Jay here inclines feel better than a flat press. Not that i dislike flat BB benches as they train everything.
Having said that some studies show that Declines are the king. Declines i do not see much anymore in the Gym & iīm not sure why

Dumbbells would seem much safer for your spine.

I enjoy your training posts, Donny.

Due to time restrictions in the next while i am now on a full body training routine(s)
I did it this morning & i have to say in a lot of ways returning to such a workout humbles you.. sweated like a little piggy !
I didnīt squat today as i went for a long cycle tour last night & just decided to whimp out & do leg extensions/Leg curls  ::) my excuse is i am now an old fart

This guy deserves a mention on here. No days off & i have to say if you look at his videos heīs got bigger.
In some lifts heīs actually got stronger but some heīs stagnated.
however an interesting experiment

Got a slight bit of elbow pain so didnīt train today but went for a cycle tour.
I think iīll drop the EZ Bar skull crushers & use my Tri-Bar with a parallel grip seems to be kinder to my elbow.
First time iīve felt it in my elbow normally no problems but i usually stick to more compound lifts like dips or Close grip benches.

Jumping with weight is a great power exercise. I think you have to use light weights so it reduces the chances of injury but increase intensity by jumping with all you got. I couldn't see using anything other than light weights jumping with a barbell or dumbbell. If I wanted to use heavy weights I would use a power clean or a snatch for a power developing exercise.
