He seems to have just left it.
He had a different tear. His tore from the muscle belly and not the bone. Having some tendon left to be able to re-attach it to the bone makes things easier...

No. I thought Dorian's was a distal tear, not from where it attaches to the lower bicep?  I could be wrong, but either way it was repairable.....

So, the tech was there, it was just that Dorians tear was too severe?

^as above not sure which type he had, but both could have been fixed.  The reason his was so noticeable is he kept training so he could do the O instead of getting surgery right away.  I knew mine was torn immediately, and I had the type of distal surgery in that vid above.  I just started training again a few months ago after being terrified for 2+ years so I still have some "safety fat", but I can not tell any difference at all if I do a FDB now vs. b4  in the mirror.  Actually, my repaired bicep looks slightly better just like it always has (weird bcuz of the tear, and it's not my dominant arm ???)

That technique wasn't around when Dorian did his I don't believe, but it could have been repaired better than it was(if it was) after waiting so long.  If it ever happens to any of you, go to the ortho immediately, get the mri confirmed, and get the surgery scheduled and done asap.  They will prioritize you as the level of success declines as you wait.

BTW, watching that vid made me cringe knowing that was done to me while I was unconscious.  Thank God for surgeons....they may cost a lot, but they're worth it!

A lot of us here have experienced the same issues- overdoing the weights to the point of major injury. Then  we think “WTF am I doing to myself?”  lol.
I still use the 6-8 rep protocol but always leave 1 or 2 in the tank- the extra rep seems to be where all the injuries or joint pain originate. I stick to the basics and never do movements that cause any kind of joint pain. I also completely stopped weight training my legs and stick to sprinting- either running or cycling. My legs actually have gotten bigger by doing this and my spine doesn’t get beaten up in the process.

Injuries sometimes seem like a right of passage in weight training. I'll stick with a little soreness every so often.

So you don't even do leg extensions?   How old are you ?

If you've had a knee injury, leg extensions will most likely aggravate it.

They're considered to be very hard on the knee joint, much more than squats and for minimal benefit.

Exactly, knee extensions are one of the worst exercises yet you see dummies at the gym use the whole weight stack. Like that douche Tom Platz was doing in one of his videos. Same with sissy squats.

Soreness is different than injury as you well know. The joints are always the weak point in lifting. Lee Haney said this many times- “save the joints” He also said “stimulate, don’t anihilate” And look how great he looks today!

Completely agree. Knee extensions are a sure fire way to wreck the knee tendons. Another lesser known source of knee injury is the standing calf raise with locked legs.

I do sprints on a road bike as well as a cycling ergometer at my gym. Its all about watts. A true sprint is no more than 10-12 seconds That puts you at the peak of the creatine phosphate energy phase. 10 seconds on, 1-2 minutes easy times 5-6 reps will have you crawling. If you extend the sprint to 20-30 seconds ( a short interval actually) you target the lactic acid phase and your legs will literally balloon up after 3 sets of 20-30 seconds on, 40-60 seconds off.

Is there an alternative or just maybe using much lighter weight?

Cool, whatever works for u! We have a machine in our gym, well it‘s more of a simple equipment, for reverse leg extensions. Your lover legs are fixed while you move your body from the knees up. Just imagine you’re on a leg extension machine and want to stand up. Whenever i see people using it i get skin crawls. Not to mention a lot of meathead, self proclaimed PTs put their clients on it. But hey, they have big muscles, they know what they are doing 😏😏😏

You could use the top 30 degrees of motion, but otherwise I don't see any real benefit from the excercise.

Squats are going to build and work the legs far better while being much easier on the knee joints.

I've spoken to two knee specialists about these exercises, they both said knee extensions put massive strain on the joint and tendon, especially the underside of the kneecap. And would advice anyone to avoid that exercise.

However, with squats they said if it doesn't hurt, it's fine. The load is distributed a lot more across the whole body while with the leg extension it's all on the joint, in an unnatural motion.

I'm glad you've always seen it this way. That's why I absolutely hate when I hear IFBB pros call this a "sport".

These guys lack stamina, functional strength and can barely run a quarter of a mile without getting chest pains.

If I was Calum  , at his age with 3 millions followers on social media.  I'd probably feel above any bodybuilding contest.   The world has changed.  Look at your champs on men's physique,classic ,212, even open Shawn Rhoden. Nothing to gain for a guy like Calum.  

The day of : "Lee Haney won the Mr.O " on every cover of magazines on Stand and even on ESPN. are long gone.
