according to an early article on him in the Washington Post Magazine, he used to lift weights in his backyard. He then got into powerlifting, and then competitive bbing. I think he went to Glen Burnie High School or Meade High School (Ft Meade, Md).
BTW, Vince Taylor is from Havre De Grace, Maryland.

People talk shit about bodybuilders to comfort their personal inadequacies. Do you have to have a higher level of self love to do what these guys and girls do?  Yes, but you should have it anyway. You are given this biological vessel and you have the power in your hands to make into what you want. You are an artist. A physique sculpture or physique artist. Men dream of having a physique such as yours and women dream of being in the arms of such men.

I'd rather be a pro bodybuilder than the millions of other mundane, shitty, boring professions out there people are forced to work to put food on the table and keep the lights on.   

Of course, I'm talking about bodybuilding prior to 2000. lol.

the wife was co-owner of the gym. I'm not sure of the back story, but they may have known his family.
He ended up selling his part of the gym to her, I believe. There were some lawsuits.
