I just assumed he knew the best chicken & rice was at Halal Guys. The place is legendary. They have a few carts around the Rockefeller Center area and a couple of standalone restaurants now. One of my favorite meals in the city.

Just a thought, if you're going to be there for more than a couple days and plan to use the subway then buy an unlimited week pass for $30 rather than pay $2.50 per ride ($5 "round trip).

As far as gyms, Manhattan has some pretty awful "bodybuilding" ones. Steel Gym is on 23rd btw 6th and 7th. Victor Martinez trains there which is about it's only redeeming quality. Every flamboyant homosexual in the city seems to work out there as well. I was a member, but had to leave because the G4P ring there got ahold of my phone number.

Try Mid City Gym on 42nd near Times Square. They just closed their original, "hardcore" location, but it will do for a short stay.
