We've all seen the videos.  Morons lining up for Palin, morons supporting Obama after being given McCain's policies as that of Obama.  So do you think a test should be required before voting?  Something like a license to vote like you get a drivers license?  Something that requires a person to at least have a very basic understanding of the issues, government and political history?

I disagree with that, they can't control the tax code so it's not their fault.  That would also eliminate many active servicemen AND vets.  Not cool imo... focusing on eliminating the intentionally totally clueless voters is probably a more serious consideration.  It's also a consideration that comes with some problems.  History has shown it's been used racially.  At the same time, who the hell wants a voter to cast their vote on good looks or whatever, with absolutely no knowledge of government or the issues, like we've seen from so many videos posted here of both the right and left.

actually, such a requirement might increase voter participation.  People don't seem to give a shit about what's free.  Tell people they can't have it "unless they," and they line up.  I'm not sure what the answer is, but I would be all for a more educated voter.  Maybe they would put the time in to have the right where they wouldn't have done shit otherwise.

I understand, but you see my point right?  You don't want to tell vets they can't vote right?  Or how about all the people that are just turning 18?  a great portion of them will not be earning enough to actually lose money in federal taxes, are you going to tell them they can't vote along with vets that don't earn enough?  How about someone who gets sick, or how about the good wife of a pissant couch potato?  on and on...

that's why I mentioned there were historical reasons to consider against it.  Doesn't matter if it woudn't happen, I'm interested in what you think, not what would happen.  Nobody here is going to affect anything anyway so I'm just curious about personal opinions.

People on government programs that recieve tax payers money  should not be allowed to vote!! Do you honestly think they will vote in the best interest of America?  Hell no they are going to vote for the person that wants to keep the handouts coming, even while that persons agenda completly fucks up the rest of America!!!

I mean, Obama doens't SAY it... but everyone knows it... repubs will cut the handouts in a major way.  I heard on Rush today that Obama/holder over-rode a local vote to keep party affil off of the ballt on a NC district - would hurt voters there who are strong dem voters.

Essentially, you vote DEM, you vote handout.  Should ppl getting handouts be able to vote?

Democracy needs active voters. But to get that through introducing thresholds are a step back.
Instead focus should be on education.

Yes. Everyone should be allowed to vote regardless of how stupid. Study American history and the poll tax. I would not trust states having such discretion given our sordid past in such matters.

One point of view about the 'college degree' thing.  What if obama suddenly decided (with his dem congress) to enact a law stating those with college degrees CANNOT vote, since they are obviously the minority and their beliefs are against the greater good or whatever.  Dems would crush repubs in everything.
