Gotta say, this is a great logo. If the quality of the products is there, you'll do very well and when it catches on you can change SoCal to SoFla ( etc.)

Knowing you are a man of faith, have a look at this as a benchmark for affordable quality ( I bought some the clothes the other day.)

It's my old handle but about 15 years ago my wifes uncle used the same name for his business on Guam when he changed the name, we took it and have been sitting on it for almost that long.

I respectfully disagree. The logo has a vintage general store sign vibe and it immediately becomes familiar. It will resonate with people in the mid fourties, fifties and if age appropriate garments are printed on, individuals in their early sixties may well be inclined to buy. I could see stickers being popular with youth and that impression would have them looking for mom and dad to buy for them.

I was busy and only glanced at the logo earlier, now that I have my glasses on I think it’s even cooler. I don’t know if It’s possible, but a long sleeve t-shirt with the Local Joe repeated as it appears in the graphics would be VERY popular. And a variation ( logo shield ) with just “LJ” embroidered on a skull cap ( thin knit cap ) would be a huge hit. I love the grey used for that t-shirt . . . Black on black, grey on grey, black with a dark red.

Heck Dave Palumbo invites people to send him t’s which he wears on IronRage and he often plugs the company who sent it to him - given Coach’s presence in the scene, I’d say Dave knows of him and would do it in a heart beat.

Oh yeah, this could hit.

Being a former skater punk I have to say I like the logo, and the name does have a catchy laid back skater/surfer feel like the old Jimmy'z brand......and as I was typing that I looked to remember how to spell it, and it turns out it's not old at all....still going.

I'd buy a hoody if you make them without it saying so cal?

Will you do standard sizing or is it made for guys that workout?  I'm normally xl in all standard shirts and hoodies, but with T Michael and Crazee Wear, a large would often do back in the day.

Good luck!

So you're jacked, and not a fellow midget?  LOL!

It's impossible for me to find shit that fits right even in my current shruk-down chubby state.  Larges are way to tight in the arms, shoulders, and chest, and xl's are normally just the right fit those ways, but many hang down past my ass.

It's strange how shoulders, chest, and traps factor into shirt size.  I'm just barely shorter than Coach, and my brother in law is a little over 6'2" I think.  Yet he wears mediums ???  I wouldn't be able to squeeze into one, but if I did it would be a mid riff shirt......something like Prime or Prudence would wear if you need a visual....you probably didn't, but haha...

The pic of myself and Haney, the shirt I’m wearing is the same fabric used in my Tee’s. What I have on is a 2xx. I didn’t want go with just regular cotton but something that will fit nicely and look casual. Like I said, this is more casual Surf/Activewear if that makes sense. The fitness gear is so saturated I wanted to start creating something that fits the “fit” Surf culture of So. Cal and especially Huntington Beach. Come closer to summer we will also have a “Joe Local Huntington Beach” or “HB”. New products will be rolled out for each season.

I am now quite average.  Given that about 5 decades back I was  5' 9" and weighed 90 lbs., I suppose average is better than that.   ;D

Good luck to Coach and his wife with their new business!

OK that gives me a good idea about sizing as you're about 225 in that pic right?

Make some stuff that doesn't say anything about Cali for the rest of us.  I like the logo and the name! As I said it reminds me of my skater days, and crosses over to my journey into the gym after so it speaks to me likely more than most.  The shirts look good quality too.

I will gladly support your biz, but I will not buy anything that promotes that state until it's no longer run by the inmates.  I know you live there, and it has it's perks, so no offense, but I can't advertise that way of life.  Even at my biggest and leanest I stay covered up most of the time as I don't like people I don't know grabbing, squeezing, poking on me.....oddly the same fags that get bent out of shape about "grabbin em by the pussy" are the people that tend to do that shit. >:(

I want a hoodie with no CA mention Coach....make it happen!  (Remember, I'm not a left-tard so I'm not asking for a freebie......although I wouldn't turn it down ;))

Have to give it too you,  that is a good idea.

to piggy back on that idea... maybe made in the town in so cal where they are made?

made in Huntington beach,CA?

huntington beach has marketing power... made in the USA is good, but anything made in So cal has that "boom" with retail. like it or not... it is true and  lets be real... with regards to so cal... Huntington beach has more WOW factor than most towns in CA

there are a lot of fitness brands out there... many go after the female - gym shark etc (leggings etc)

do really nice hoodies... they have a lot of profit margin built into them and you can do good looking hoodies.

also consider a nice camo pattern - camo is in with regards to fitness and younger types who will buy brand -

I want to start out by saying that by starting this thread on here I knew I’d get honest feedback and you guys would be harshest critics, that being said I was surprised at the positive feedback even from my “haters” and I thank everyone for that. Some great ideas were thrown out and I appreciate that.

We (my wife, sons, family and friends) feel we might be onto something big and have even been offered investment $$$ to expand (I’ve never used investors with my gym). We have most of our marketing in order and one of the planned venues to launch will hopefully be at the US Open of Surfing here in HB which brings in an estimated 5-700k in spectators throughout the week.

Again, thank you guys for your input and honesty

Are hoodies without a California mention going to be a thing?  Being a conservative you should get what I'm saying is true that some people that are interested will be turned off and not wear something with that state on it.

BTW, if your web/marketing people don't work out pm me.  My old training partner's company is insanely good.  They've done work for companies I don't think I can mention, but a big portion of the world uses at least 2 that I know of everyday, and both have brought him out to their HQ's. ;)

He's a bodybuilder, artist, does some local modeling, and former bmxer so he'd get it.

Apparel business is horrible unless you enjoy having dozens of boxes of shirts no one is buying in your garage while your Lambo sits outside in the rain. Low margins, shipping nightmares, size returns and endless competition. Stick to selling useless high margin supplements.

This is a saturated area but I wish you well. 25 usd for a t-shirt with a so cal logo (there are tons out there) and extra for shipping puts your brand on the expensive side compared to the competition.

The fitness apparel industry is absolutely saturated that’s why it’s not my focus. Focus is more surf and surf culture casual wear than actually targeting the fitness market. Since we rolled out last night we’ve sold over 130 units. Hoping by the end of the weekend we double that.

how does your tshirt focus on "surf and surf" culture

Also noticed the site doesn't mention that the shirt it made in the USA
Even better if they were made in California .... you know to tie into your surf/surf culture thing

Maybe also consider offering a discount for veterans

I like them, but I still would like to see an option without the So Cal or HB CA on it.  The name itself is already a reference to Cali, but it's subtle so I can live with that.  I wouldn't buy it with the other mentions included, but absolutely would without.

You're saying that you want to cater more to surf/beach culture than active/gym wear so I'd go with the top, but I'd include a skateboard or wheels somehow.  I'm not an artist, but what about a skateboard in a smith grind position going across the bottom of the L that goes under the letter O?  You could have HB CA on the top of the skate deck....

As for the other two, I'd pick the one on the left with the HB CA on above the barbell.  The other one breaks up the trees from growing out of the ground (barbell).....that one would also have more peel points in the print to come loos when washed.

That I like!

I'm by no means a graphics person and not particularly good with a computer. I've been doing the old fashion way. I'll sketch out ( I do this a few times a week) a rendition of the logo or use Canva as my inspo board then shoot it over to my graphics girl. If it's a sketch, I'll just take a pic of the sketch and text to her and she'll make something out if it. Gotta tell you though, I'm having a blast with this business so far. We're still in our first month (we launched March 29) and already into our second round of re-ordering.

We have secured funds for marketing for expos, conventions, etc.

I know I've shit on you in the past, but in all seriousness, you're going to do very well. If I may ( respectfully ) suggest you might want to consider having your wife as a model as opposed to just you. If memory serves she is absolutely beautiful.

Why do that when he can just pick out a bunch of bimbos off Venice that’ll do it for free ::)

Coach, I want you to succeed with this so I'm not mocking you just posing a serious question/observation.

You say you're wanting to target more of the surf scene, but then your IG link here contains this:
"joelocal
Military Green w/blue distressed logo Joe Local for the gym

Skater life, and surfer life are pretty interchangeable, and as a former hardcore skater dude it seems you should be re-shuffling the order of your hashtags here if the surfer life is what you're really going after.  The skater market should be a market for you as well.  Think of all the old brands that used to do both...some still around....Jimmy'Z, Gotcha, Bady Boy, Stussey, Vans, Airwalk, Alva, etc... all went after both the surf and skateboard scenes.....even snowboarding, bmx, freestyle, and now I see some in extreme mountain biking.  I have two points I'm getting at here.  The first is don't limit yourself, as there is a lot of overlap....just having searched it even looks like Bad Boy has shifted into MMA.  That's an easy match for you right now starting out being in the fitness/coaching biz.  Your brand does have a ton of crossover appeal if you market it right.

My second point is that you're going to have a challenge getting into the surfer market regardless, but even tougher if you keep posting so much workout stuff.  I understand you're just in the launch phase so you're getting word out to what you're around, and who/what you know, but skaters/surfers/snowboarders etc. are a lot like bb'ing and powerlifting.  Most successful brands were started by people in one of those sports and then branched out.  Those groups of people are very loyal to their own.....they buy "local" in the sense of their respective activity communities.  So my question is do you have an "in" within those communities?  What Josh is suggesting for himself, is actually not a bad idea......just not for giving it to him.  Do your kids have surfer/skater friends?  If so, some free gear might not be a bad idea.  Stickers are cheap, and both surfers and skaters love them for their boards......especially free ones!  If nothing else, do some gorilla marketing and plaster those stickers in random hot spots.  I think as deep as you are in the fitness industry spending a little money to get attention would be a good thing.  Go to surf/skate competitions with your wife and some friends wearing your shirts/tanks, and hand out some stickers.

I know I'm a wordy fuck, but I do know that lifestyle and their buying preferences well as I was one for many years, and I also have 20+ years of sales and marketing experience.

Again, wishing you nothing but success with this! 8)

You are too?

I used to LOVE Stussy clothing.  Their pants might have been one of the reasons that transitioning to bodybuilding, and becoming a Crazee Wear pants fanatic was so easy.  Well, that and getting chased by football players when I moved here for being a "skaterfag".  LOL!

This is probably my favorite shirt I ever owned as a kid in my skater days...(sorry, don't know how to post pics :'()
https://www.google.com/search?q=stussy+skate+tough+you+little+boys&safe=active&rlz=1C1PRFC_enUS643US643&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjavIyx9PXhAhVEHqwKHVyTDjYQ_AUIDigB&biw=1600&bih=789#imgrc=b9JNjljwzFW3-M:

I have to say, I wish Coach a lot of success with his endeavor, but the neatest thing about this thread is that it got me reminiscing and made me google shit.  I had no idea Jimmy'Z, Stussy, Bad Boy, and Gotcha (looks like Etsy owns it now) were still around.

This should be encouraging to Coach about the durability of these brands, and the crossover appeal I mentioned.  Honestly, with the fact that many of these brands have crossed into MMA and other sports, I think the best marketing strategy would be for Coach to do what they did in reverse which is what he's unconsciously doing right now....making a name in fitness while wanting/striving to become big in surfer lifestyle.  There's no rule that says you can't do each of these things, or that they have to be separated.  Getting the name and logo out there to be seen and recognized is the important part!

Never heard o the Nine Club channel?  I don't have cable, but I'll see if there's anything on YT.

Hawk came here for a demo on his own, back in the early 90's way before it became mainstream and the place was packed.  The later version of the Brigade came here a year or two after that, and I got to skate with Mountain, Barbie, Frankie Hill, and a couple others.  Got to hang out upstairs with them all and talk for a bit, and all very normal cool dudes.

Vallely is a bad ass, but he's more of a surf meets concrete skater than a trickster.  Very unique hardcore old school acid drop and boneless' meets smooth flow style kinda guy.  You ever seen that vid of him taking on a group of dudes that fucked with him over being a skater?  Whoops, wrong dude to fuck with!

Frankie and Barbie took street skating to another level when they came out.  Rails, stairs, and no complys (& all the variations) may have never have been a what they are today without them.  There's a YT vid about how fucked up Frankie was for a while that's worth a watch.  Natas is the fucking ollie king, and there's a good YT doc type vid on him too.

Good times, and good to meet another muscle head that was a skater too. 8)

"Method air, and judo air, and rocket air, now comb your hair"  LOL! ;D

As a matter fact, I was thinking about getting a board for the summer time. You Know that Tampa has a huge skate scene, right? Annual Tampa skate show. This is how you run a business???
If I were strapped for cash the way he is, I wouldn't be spending all that money on gas. That alone would SURELY pay some of the import taxes he's paying Uncle Sam to allow that crap in from China.

There's an old drug dealer from the 80's named Rick Ross---he made about 600 MILLION bucks before they caught him. He's credited with being the first person to ever sell crack. He's been interviewed by everybody--all the major podcast--interesting guy. Long story short--he got out of jail on a technicality and now one of his new business ventures is selling shirts that he makes himself in LA.

Imagine that--he made 600 million bucks--lost it all and now making tshirts right here in the United States.

You keep underscoring my point that liberals are liars. Go back to your safe space cupcake

Are the shirts produced in America? I’m sure the screen print is done in the States, just wondering if the actual shirt is made here. Not trying to dig back through 8 pages of thread. Thanks.

The brand that we use for the tee's are made here but most of the other apparel they manufacture is not just from here but made in other countries but one IS NOT China. I've come to learn that most apparel manufacturers are made mostly in other countries. We source out of LA for now. for now
Strangely worded way to say that..." but most of the other apparel they manufacture is not just from here but made in other countries but one IS NOT China."
China or not--it's not the USA. If these products were made here you should post that right on top of your site--in HUGE LETTERS like everybody else does.
Oh..you can't

Here is the takeaway that you left behind from this thread Coach:
Apparel business is horrible unless you enjoy having dozens of boxes of shirts no one is buying in your garage while your Lambo sits outside in the rain. Low margins, shipping nightmares, size returns and endless competition. Stick to selling useless high margin supplements.

These particular tees and tanks are made here in the US. It’s not to say that depending what we design next might be from out of the country. We’re still trying to complete the summer line before the middle of June. It’s been a month and two days since we launched and sold out of the first run (360pcs) last week.

Obviously, Coach, being a smart Man, knows he does not have a chance with the YouTubers/Influencers Guys, from Cali.
By the way, who cares about a beef between two grown Man around here?
Coach, if you present a business around here, everyone has the right to like it or not, period.
In your Mind, and only yours, you consider yourself a public revelant figure in the BBuilding inner circle. Only God knows why.
Aside from Get Big, no one really cares about you or your sick Gun worship.

I don’t care of someone likes it or not but slander is crossing the line. Whether you’re a gimmick on here or not it literally shows a lack of integrity in their own lives. Not one person on here that can say I hide from anyone. I’ve put myself out there (on here) for 20 years.

If someone keeps attacking and is a gimmick that person is without a doubt, a coward.

Yeah, Man, and I still feel connected to that Era. Still watch all the Nine Club interviews with the crazy ones, like Andy Roy, Jesse James, Dustin Dolland, Bam, Jason, all those cats. As a matter fact, I was thinking about getting a board for the summer time. You Know that Tampa has a huge skate scene, right? Annual Tampa skate show. And Tokyo 2020 its gonna be the first year as a Olympic sport :)

That's awesome!  I had no clue about that.

Checked out the Nine Club on YT.  I thought it was going to be skate action vids, but it seems like all interviews.  Still cool though, as I see some names/topics that look good.  There's a channel that used to pop up on my YT feed on my tv all the time, but stopped due to all the political shit since the Mueller thing grew outta control.  U reminded me to start watching again so I'm sure it will pop up soon.  They have a good size following...have a warehouse with a balcony that's like 15' high, and some young hispanic kid was dbl kick flippin off it!  Bonkers! :o  They do a thing where people send them random shit/weird type decks to skate....bullet proof glass one was cool.

Those names you posted in this reply were after my time.  Obviously, I know who Bam is though.  I stopped around 90-91ish, IIRC ???  I skated mostly launch ramps and street, but my last board was a vert mostly guy.  He was newer at the time....can't remember his name, but it was like a frog or lizard on the bottom graphics.   Does the last name Noah or Neal (Neil) ring any bells with that graphic from that time frame?

Hendrix doesn't seem like the right last name, and I looked through his decks and don't see it.  Maybe that name neal just rang a bell because of his nickname?  Looks like that dude got into some shit though....http://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2018/10/29/understanding-neal-hendrix-allegations-power-dynamics-skateboarding/  Not cool!

Yes Gonz is a bad ass!  The wall ride king, and best ditch grinder back in the late 80's.......I thought he died, or turned into a major lush though.   LOL!

I saw a couple years ago that Hosoi had turned his life around, and was back on the scene.  There was a cool doc on it I watched.

Geez...I just watched the vid. LOL!  He's gotta be in his 50's now.  Hate to say it, but he reminds me of SF if SF was a skater and had any actual talent in life.

Yeah, he went to jail for smuggling Crystal Meth to Hawaii. Did his time, now back to society. Was a very talented skateboarder, one of the best of all times. Has Kids, early 50s.

Hysterical! He acts like a homeless derelict with MPD, and most people probably treat him as such....meanwhile, he's a multi-millionaire from being told his whole life that skaterz are faggitz and losers.

Guess he's having the last laugh!

Very familiar with Hosoi's story!  Great tale (pun intended) of redemption!  Him and Cab we're pushing each other in big air so hard before big air was even a thing.

So there's you, me, and Tony Alva on here.....a few more, and we could have a sub topic forum :D

As far as Tank, like the Tee's are a great cut. The only time I'll pick out a 100% cotton garment is if I'm doing an in person give away promo.

This is what the tanks are made from

22/1 Soft Spun
60:40 Cotton / Polyester blend
4.8 oz / 165 gram

The Logo (I think) I call a "shield" logo that represents So. Cal and Huntington Beach (SoCal/HB)
