Guy was fucking brilliant.  Why did he have to write a bunch of songs that would be outstanding had they not been filled with moronic, childish lyrics.

Because vocals were more marketable than instrumentals...he said so himself...

and his humor/thinking/muse would not allow him to write conventional sounding lyrics.

The  instrumentals he did write are quite good.


"Lumpy Gravy" is my favorite of his albums...it's a concept piece to be played through at a sitting.

As an aside I have it on an original LP release.

With all the talent Zappa possessed, wouldn't vocals a little bit more traditional than "Dong work for Yuda" or "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee" be even more marketable and popular?

This is like using a fine Italian vehicle, in the circus as a clown car.  :-X

Just saw Dweezil (Hampton Beach NH) a couple Fridays back (my 2nd time), he plays his dads music.

Great show for Zappa fans... Plus he was cool, walking around shaking hands.. (Not a stuck up dick)..

a lot of groups are like this in my area in pa. there is a place called penn's peak close to where i live. quite a few of the acts sign autographs for free and talk to the fans in between and at the end of shows. eddie money , john waite, nelson, firehouse just to name a few. our groups who played there jethro tull, toto, outlaws , kansas,38 special  and many more of the type.
