2014 LA Fit Expo - Info - January 25-26
« on: January 13, 2014, 10:19:00 PM »
So the first NPC competition of the year will be at the Los Angeles Fit Expo, on January 25th.  But also, quite a ton of booths at the Los Angeles convention center that weekend.  Quite a few IFBB competitors too, including Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Jay Cutler and others.  See quite a few of you there.

Last year, 35,000 people came.

This is an Amateur event. There is no IFBB Pro Ironman anymore.

It was one of my favorite contests.  But with the move to the Los Angeles convention center, they started to give them a ton of problems if they did the finals there after the expo (the union and other expenses were incredible).

They wanted to move it to a theater in downtown Los Angeles, but that expense of that for the weekend was $25,000.  That included with the prize money expenses ($30,000) plus a myriad of other expenses, and the success of the Fit Expo (35,000 people came last year), and it was too much to do one one weekend.  The Flex IFBB Pro took over for two years on a different weekend, but alas, not this year.

Great show. Went to it for years when I lived in La La Land. I use to work the backstage at the Ironman Pro. Sorry to see it go. Now its gone Fitness big time at the L.A. Convention Center. The promoters want it to become the "Arnold" West. Bodybuilding is but a small venue in the show. Since I moved to AZ I have gone twice. No further interest for me but most will enjoy.

Note…in the old days the booths gave out T shirts and entire food bars. Now to get a bar slice if lucky. Sign of the times. Oh….bring a $20 if you want to see Lou.

I was one of the 35,000.  As a heads up, I went on Saturday afternoon and it was so crowded you could hardly walk through the aisles.  And if you wanted a photo with anyone, you had to stand in a long line (the MMA guys were the most popular).

Been to this event a few times and always enjoyed it.

I suggest you walk a couple of blocks north(?) and have a decent meal at "THE ORIGINAL PANTRY'. If you don't want to stand in line at the Expo you might be able to get a faster picture at the Pantry as most of the well-knowns will be there having lunch.

I'd also like to recommend the yearly 'Gym-equipment' event which I believe is held each year in the San Diego area.

I only went once and I forgot the official title but I gotta say that I was darn impressed and was introduced to a lot of heavy duty gym equipment that I've never seen before .... and also met a lot of the old timers who represented some of the equipment manufacturers.

Maybe RON will offer more information because it's worth attending if you live in the So Cal area.

The gym equipment event is called IHRSA??? Been to it.  The Original Pantry is good, but only CASH, and there is usually a line too.  LA Live area is cool, with lots of restaurants, which is right next door next to the Nokia Theater, across from Staples. Over the years, we have eaten at various places there, including the Yardhouse, Katsuya Sushi, Smashburger, Lawrys Carvery, Rock n Fish, and the Farm of Beverly Hills (good kids menu).

And the Grammy's are being held at the Staples Sunday night so it will be busy...

Thanks, RON! Do you have any idea what IHRSA means?

But, YTS, I believe that was the name of the event I went too... supposedly the biggest of its type in the uSA and possibly even worldwide.

Apparently the Grammys will be held in a separate area of Staples, but I always thought that the IronMan event took up the majority of the Staples arena.

Looks like traffic will be a real nightmare Sunday evening.
