Power cage/squat rack on deadlift platform
« on: January 18, 2016, 08:33:30 AM »
I'm planning on expanding our gym soon. Being an old school bodybuilder before all this fancy nancy training came out....what's the purpose of having a power cage on a deadlift platform?  I will have several platforms but why put a cage on them?  Makes more sense to me to have an open platform so u can do tons of moves and have a power rack just standing alone separate. Do people plan on dropping things from the rack?

Ohhhhh. As I'm writing this I just realized the bands youngsters use these days. Is that why?  Band on the bar doing deads?  If so better to install some ring hooks in the platform huh?

Band hook ups are attached to the racks usually now, so the platform is under it. Personally, I like separate stations, but the trend in a lot of places is the rack/half rack and platform combo, as you mentioned. The thought seems to be Powerlifts inside the rack, step out, then do some Olympic lift variations outside the rack on the bit of platform left over.
