Henry Hill dies 'pretty peacefully, for a goodfella'

Henry Hill, whose life as a high-rolling New York gangster turned FBI informant was the basis for Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film, Goodfellas, died yesterday of complications following a recent heart attack. He was 69. He “went out pretty peacefully, for a goodfella,” his partner and manager Lisa Caserta told CBS News.

Hill was arrested in 1980 for trafficking narcotics and fearing that his associates in the Lucchese crime family wanted him dead, he agreed to cooperate with federal authorities. His testimony led to 50 convictions, and he began a new life in the Witness Protection Program.

In 1986, author Nicholas Pileggi documented Hill’s life in the book, Wise Guy, which became the basis for Scorsese’s film, starring Ray Liotta as Hill, Joe Pesci, and Robert DeNiro. Hill was later expelled from the Witness Protection Program after additional drug-related arrests, and he suffered several setbacks in his struggle with drug and alcohol abuse

Maybe it was a glamorous life for a few years, but I'm sure the majority of his existence  was that of a sad dope fiend

The last footage I seen of him he was just the old guy hanging out in some small town run down bar, laughing it up and drinking beer. Said if he would die a drunk, he would die a happy man. Seemed like an okay guy to me.

Goodfella's was a great movie but it doesn't change the fact that Henry Hill was still a fucking snitch and stool pigeon who ratted out his friends and family just to save his own ass.

Including this part

Does anybody remember him on howard stern?  When he said a guy kidnapped him and forced him to stick stuff up his ass and what not. He put out a video of it he said and howard was watching it and getting sick.  He used to get fucked up and say give me a caramel machiada all the time on there.  But he did an ass video in the woods or something gross.

In real life Tommy was really a big man who could handle himself in a fist fight and who flew off the handle at a moments notice.

I read somewhere that he calmly pulled out a pistol and shot some random dude walking down the street in the head like it was nothing.

the movie (which is fucking awesome btw) portrayed them as lovable rogues when in reality they were utter scum.

i dont like people who rat but in his case he wouldve been killed by his so called buddies, he had a choice of getting killed by them or staying alive in the witness protection program. thats basiclly the choice he had, die or live

Anyone in his situation would have ratted too , it's easy to talk bravado when you're not in FBI custody  but the old adage applies ' No honor among thieves '

good post from a while back on here

several years back, about a decade give or take a group of my associates somehow managed to get the real henry hill to do an after dinner speaking session at everton fc's goodison park. I was charged with looking after the now sober henry hill.

he was as sober as amy winehouse.

and was snorting enough beak to kill an elephant.

over the course of 3 days he went missing at every opportunity with typical addict excuses. eventually we got him to the venue after keeping him away from all gear and booze for a full 6 hours. he went to powder his nose and spent about 5 minutes in the gents. he then came back to the venue to be introduced. came to the mic got called a grass, told the audience to go fuck themselves then went over to his seat eyes spinning leaving us to placate tables of fellas who had paid through the nose for the privelege.

he later got his head back but it was an unmitigated disaster

as for the batts scene- genius to say the least. the whole film is cracking- the dialogue ace, the violence top. however in reality hills role was overblown. but still my fave fillum of all time

Jimmy was discussing killing Henry with Paulie. Paulie sat there silently which gave permission to Jimmy to whack Henry. The argument was that Henry was a cocaine junkie who would give them all up (which he ended up doing, lol)
