Denie Walter? Need more about him!
« on: August 05, 2008, 09:51:00 AM »
Hey how come there isn't anything ever written about "Denie" Walter? He was editor of Flex just before it was Flex and he was editor of MTI. he was a photojournalist as well as a competitor, author and a great contributor of the sport of Bodybuilding. I was told by a friend that he named Vince Gironda "The Iron Guru" and was the person who named the first Pec machine the "The Pec Deck". just wondering?

because most guys here are young and clueless, this belongs on the history thread. denie was a good and prolific writer.however he once wrote a book called pscyhoblast on bodybuilding possibly the third worse sports book ever written next to juiced and vindicated by jose canseco.

Right on. Robert Kennedy appreciates his loyal readers. The man is a true fan of bodybuilding. Him and Johnny Fitness were in the office gym (located next to my office) a couple of hours ago and were busting out some bench presses. They never miss workouts.

Denie was my friend and mentor. Much of my gym's success in the media was started by him.

I use to visit him a lot at his apartment in Bayonne NJ . Where he use to lay out the magazine on story boards at his kitchen table. Dan Lurie was a cheap boss. Denie receive $6000 a month to put the whole magazine together and that included his salary. He wrote most all the articles using different sur names. Did all of photography him self too. He is a genius.

He coined a lot of nick names of the bodybuilders of that day. first one to call the machine 'pec dek'. and the tv show its name 'Muscle sport USA'.  He was also a good bodybuilder winning shows like the East Coast, Eastern usa, and Mr. New Jersey.

He had some down times as of late when his wife Linda died of brain cancer . We still keep in touch by e mail .I owe a debt to him for all he  has done for me. A very kind man
