Congrats. I am talking about the overall title. Bantams have seldom if ever won that.I have one Overall title under my belt at 145#. It was a Musclemania contest. I was no Marvin Ward though, who one National overalls as a BW in the NPC, he is the only one I know of.

The same thing happened at Ironage until I asked for them. Ron posted here that I won too long ago. I mean, he supports bodybuilding but not past champions? Something isn't right. You would think Ron and the moderators would go out of their way to attract and then keep the champions here. Look at what this forum has become. The pros are under contract so many can't post here. Ben and Joe Weider started their empire in Canada and that is where the IFBB originated. So of course this was an official IFBB Mr Canada contest. Only Philippe Alfani showed up from back east so this was a weak field. No one from Ontario. It would be like having a Mr Australia without anyone from Victoria or NSW the two largest states.why bring me into this lol im not the one bitching about blue stars.
I competed in several other contests in Canada and one in Australia. I never promoted any contests in Canada. I was working for the promoter, Ray Beck, and he was too busy to pick the judges. I then picked 15 judges but knew only a few of them personally. 13 showed up including our guest poser, Chuck Sipes.
If you look at Muscle Memory there was no Mr Canada contest in 1969 or 1971 probably because the IFBB charged way too much to promoters to hold this contest.
So I guess I held the title for 2 years. A pity because I was in Australia for most of that time. By the way, who the heck is Mensa Bob and who did he beat?
Here is Ken Rivard who placed second and got several first place votes. I honestly didn't think I was going to win this contest. Ken won best arms, chest and back. Walter Milner won best abs and most muscular and I won best legs and best poser.
We don't have a photo of the winners standing together because Ken stormed off and wouldn't pose for a group photo.

I knew Ken and he trained at the same gym in Vancouver. Good old Western Gym on Hastings Street. That was skid row then and the gym was adjacent to the boiler room in the basement. Primitive equipment but set up for hardcore longshoremen and others who dug the scene. Ken asked me a few months before the contest if I was entering. I told him I was going to win it! If you had seen how big Ken was you would have laughed at my remark. I think I said it to motivate myself to train hard. Seeing him that huge made me seek out some Dianabol and I gained some size and strength quickly. I trained in secret not revealing to anyone what I looked like. Two weeks before the contest I was 210 pounds. I competed at 190 but still didn't have enough cuts especially on my thighs. I easily beat my mate Jim Forsythe in arm wrestling at 210. On the contest day I was depleted and Jim won the final against me in a hard match. Some say he used the table for leverage but I wasn't going to win that day.
In the Mr Canada Ken was a sensation. International class upper body but he forgot to train his legs. He also showed up white while I was tanned. I also practiced posing for half an hour a day for months before the show. Ken didn't practice at all and he regretted it later because he looked clumsy and had no idea how to do most of the standard poses. Walter Milner was a sensation, too. A quiet lad from Moosehorn, Manitoba but living in Vancouver. We called him cuts and the judges laughed when he did a most muscular because Walter looked unbelievable.
Philippe Alfani was the complete package but came in too smooth. He placed third but was way bigger than me. That is why I didn't think I was going to win. In 4th place was John Mikl only 17. He and Walter won Mr Canada a few years later. He uses the stage name Thor as a musician. I haven't seen any of those guys since I left Canada in January 1971. It was snowing and I am glad I haven't seen any snow since then. Thank you, Australia.

I am not sure what is the deal behind the scenes with ron and vince but it does make him come off as bias when he award stars to goodrum and not to vince basile.

I looked quite good in 75. Best shape I have been in for a contest. There were slides taken of me on stage. I had them at my gym for the guys to look at and someone stole them! They were never returned so I don't have any photos of me competing. Robert and I were in different height classes so were never compared.

We had a slide viewer for those interested. Obviously, someone was jealous so took them. I had a knucklehead from school working for a week so that made it easy for someone to take them. We had to give him the sack. Not for this but he sure was dense. Never hire people you personally know. There were photos of Arnold as well because he was the guest poser. 1980 was a turning point in bodybuilding. Franco and Zane won the Olympia because Arnold retired and Sergio was banned. That is the truth. So everyone was there in Sydney to have a go since few knew Arnold was competing. It was a great contest and well worth the $35 admission and $10 for the judging. Frank had won the 3 previous years but fell on a chair and cut his urethra and lost some blood just before the contest. Apparently he lost 10 pounds of muscle. That would have made a huge difference and Frank might have won against Arnold. When he came 3rd it would have been a bitter pill to swallow. Lot of egos damaged that night. Hapless Mike Mentzer never competed again and lost control of his mind for years. The reality of losing impacted on those two in a huge way. Who knows who would have won in 81 had they both battled on and trained even harder. Why Robert wanted to hang around Frank that night under those conditions sounds strange. I guess he thought Frank was a mate. Maybe that is why Robert told the story about Frank. Anyway, I wasn't there in the hotel so I took Robert's word. He never lied about anything else re bodybuilding that I can recall.

I'm sure Roger Walker was the crowd favorite and that pic doesn't do him justice. Pictures never seemed to justify how good he was. Maybe it was because he was light skinned and the lights washed him out too much in photos. They didn't have the skin dyes then like they have now.

As my brother is a high level mountain bike competitor, you are quite correct. Traditional, those actually used as MTB, don't have kick stands. But there are some that just buy a MTB because they think it's cool (never actually going into the mountains) and use it as touring bikes and will have one installed after market.Most medium level/high end mtn bikes don't have provisions for mounting a kickstand.
Needless to say, this is heavily frowned upon by the purist and shows that the rider is just a poseur.

One night, after a few too many glasses of cheap red wine from Aldi, Basile decides to test out his new biceps supinator exo-skeleton suit, which is a machine he has nicknamed "Mona".
As Basile painfully gets up from his dirty kitchen chair, he takes a screw wrench in his shaking hand and slowly walks into the living room. On the dusty shelf stands a replica of the Sandow statue and some wrinkled, wet magazines with men of an erotic nature. It is good that Getbig never asks about a love life or a wife … "only gay, if you want it to be" he thinks to himself.
Further into the living room, he sees the machine that he has been working on for so long. Mona, the machine, looks magnificent. There are blue stars on the side of the machine, which he has carved out from lapis lazuli.
Still a little drunk from the cheap red wine, Basile sits down into the heavily modified biceps supinator, which is now more like a real powered exoskeleton. As he slowly sits down into the machine, a visor folds down onto his face. As Mona starts up, Basile starts the voice command. "Load Getbig, Gossip & Opinions", he tells Mona. Wearing the exoskeleton, Basile looks like a kind of old rusty terminator.
As Getbig is starting up on Basile's LCD head visor, Mona says to him: "Master, there is an incoming call". "Who is it from, Basile says?". Mona replies. "I can't see, but the call is from Regina, Saskatchewan". Basile then says: "notify the Canadian police". Fucking Avesher, he says to himself.
When Getbig finally loads, Basile posts in a few shitty threads as usual and desperately tries to prove once again his long ago forgotten achievements in the bodybuilding scene.
Mona then comes with a warning: "Master, ironmeister is now online". "Launch a few gimmick attacks at this vile scum", Basile says nervously.
After bashing Goodrum and being owned by a few tiny tits on Getbig, Basile stands up in the exoskeleton suit, which has powered hydraulics to help him move around. He then exits his house and tells Mona to prepare the jet thrusts. As the thrust begins to fire up, Basile flies up in the skies like Iron Man. As he flies over Manly beach, he is reminded of the apartment, he once had, that he should never have sold. Arnold's dried up cum is still hidden somewhere in that apartment.
Suddenly, the thrusters break down and Basile realizes that he only has a few seconds left to live. Grasping his 15.1 inch chubby arm, he visualizes for the last time the moment he measured the mighty guns of the oak…then he hit's Sydney's hard asphalt and feels his dentures going through his brain…then all turns black.

"Melvin and Bob are on a mission to dismiss me any way they can. So they cling to the notion that I won Mr Canada because I was the only competitor. What a load of rubbish. What is true is because it was held in Vancouver for the first time only one competitor from Quebec represented Eastern Canada. No one was from Toronto. So, yes, it was a much depleted lineup but you can win only if you show up. Very few BC guys enterred early Mr Canada contests because of the distance to Quebec where they were usually held because Ben Weider lived there.
Walter Milner and John Mikl who placed 4th and 5th went on to win Mr Canada later on. Philippe Alfani from Montreal came 3rd and Ken Rivard from Vancouver was 2nd. There were 13 judges including Chuck Sipes. I got 8 out of the 13 votes for first so Ken could easily have won that day. I won best poser and best legs and Ken won best arms, back and chest. Walter won best abs and most muscular. We called him cuts in those days. He was from Moosehorn, Manitoba. He died from a fall as a window cleaner. What a great guy he was. There was also a Mr Pacific Northwest Contest that day for people from Alaska, BC, Washington and Oregon. We didn't get many competing so I won that easily. That was a good day for me. You can only imagine the envy that hapless Melvin Goodrum has for anyone who won a national title. Since I bag him regularly on Getbig he is keen to retaliate so questions my victory and suggests I was a heavy drug user. Ha. Even Bob doubts that I took as little as I did. What the hell would that stooge know? Guys like him think they know everything but end up stooges for others who really run bodybuilding. I wouldn't let him sell tickets for a chook raffle in a pub!"

I used to make fun of him for getting up there but the fact is bodybuilding is about improving yourself, Vince may not have the best genetics for winning competitions but he def did his best with what he had and improved each time he stepped onstage or tried to get in shape.

No way. Contest was fair dinkum. I was just helping the promoter. Instead of having just a few judges we invited 15 but only 13 showed up.
When you have that many judges the result is accepted more than if just 3 or 5 are there.

and most of the audience so when Robert was announced as the winner I booed and so did many in the audience. After the contest Paul
Graham had his usual get-together for bodybuilders and officials and someone accused gym member Andrew Shigelski of booing Robert.
He told them that I started the booing and others joined in. Robert wasn't at all pleased. I didn't join that group after the show. Apparently,
Paul and Arnold heard that and said they would get even with me in Melbourne. I heard about what they were going to do so warned Frank
Burwash. Frank did nothing and that was a huge disappointment. In retrospect I should have withdrawn from the contest. I gained nothing
from competing but I had challenged Robert and called him a paper tiger so had to compete. Roger Walker won that year. I voiced my opinion
at the judges and athletes meeting that Roger had already won the title and others should be given a chance to win it. Arnold spoke out
against me and my motion was defeated as no one supported me. After the contest a humble Ian Perrott, who placed second, said he should
have supported me. He said he could win the next year. As it turned out Ian committed suicide and never won the Mr Australia. I always
wonder if he would still be alive had he won that year. So Arnold and Paul did some despicable things in those days.

I wasn't a big drug user. I started lifting weights in the fall of 1958 in a neighbour's basement. Stayed natural until early 1970 when I took 2 Dianabol tablets for 6 weeks then a break then back on a month before Mr Canada that Iwon.fixed.
Getting steroids in Australia wasn't easy if you were too embarrassed to see a doctor. I finally found a chemist at Kings Cross who sold one bottle at a time. An Asian. Must have sold a lot of bottles. Well, I tried them again for the Mr Australia in
1975. Got my bench up to 410 pounds and did a standing Olympic press with 270 pounds really easy. Still 2 tablets a day for a few months. That was that.
Tried them again a couple of years later and my strength went back up but the pills didn't increase much muscle size. That was when I tore my right biceps doing a deadlift with 509 pounds. Curse that stupid lift! That was in 1977.
Never tried any steroids again. Not interested in hormone replacement crap because I can still make my muscles grow so I don't need anything. Libido okay as well which is great.
