Intro's:

You got another thing coming....

Sweet Home Alabama

Almost all AC/DC songs

I agree about Sweet Home Alabama, but AC/DC songs would mostly only appeal to the rockers, not the ones who listen to other genres, the only exception is Thunderstruck because you hear it everywhere, especially in ball games.

That is not a fair comparison, though. You're talking about a timeless, iconic song. Slash didn't even mean for the guitar intro to sound that way as he was just doodling. If it wasn't for Axl insisting on using that, the song wouldn't be what it is today.
How many songs fit that category where the guitar is the most memorable part? And I'm talking worldwide recognition, not just guitarists/rockers.

Thunderstruck
Top Gun Anthem

At the moment I can only think of two.

No, not quite. A layperson wouldn't know 'reeling in the years,'  I don't know it. 'Layla' might be okay just because of Goodfellas. If you weren't a Clapton fan you probably won't know it. Besides, the guitar wasn't the most memorable part of that song, it was the chorus and the 2 hour outro.

***UPDATE*** I guess I was never a Steely Dan fan. I have heard of the song, though.

So let me follow you here.....You think "Danger Zone" by fucking Kenny Loggins is more memorable than Layla or Reeling in the years.

OK :P

To each their own, i get that.  But you would have to agree that 99.9% percent of "music buffs" would share my viewpoint.

haha, you ever notice that?  Often great musicians have favorites that are like WTF?  Out of all the great solos through all the years, that is Page's favorite?  Maybe he was baked when he thought that... 8)

Classical guitarists are much more technically impressive.

there's not distortion to hide imperfections.

Here's a great technique demonstration , and the second one is just a GREAT TUNE

Who the hell knows. Looks more like Bea Arthur these days than a leather-panted, groupie-slaying, guitar god.  :-\

Lol its alot harder to play very clean lead guitar with alot of distortion than on acoustic grandpas guitars.

Different techniques, different skillsets. I tend to agree, though, that the 'clean' guitarists tend to be more prolific than the shredders.

Andy McKee has enough technical skills and actual melody that almost everyone will enjoy his music.
