Paul Dillett on his 6th Place at the 1996 Mr Olympia

Musclemag International Feb 1997

I spent OVER $15,000 preparing for the Olympia , it was 16 weeks of hard work and sacrifice. Where did it get me?

In sizth place winning just $12,000 !! you gotta love this sport.

I'm one of Paul's biggest fans, but hard work ?. I hope he means at the dinner table and not in the gym because he was one of the laziest trainers ever. If he had trained like Dorian or Ronnie he would still be winning the Olympia from when he started in '93. Along with Sergio, possibly the best genetics in history.

I'd love to hear the break down I heard GH was expensive but seriously.

haha, Tom Prince said the least he ever spent on contest prep was $1,800 for the 1997 Nationals.

$1,800!!

Can you imagine how much gear that can buy you?  That could buy enough test, dbol, and EQ for anyone to put on 30 pounds in 12 or so weeks.  What a joke.  TP was all drugs too.

Maybe Lee can shed some light on this because he used to live with Paul. I read an interview at T-Nation where Lee said that Paul didn't use a lot of drugs and he witnessed it first hand when he lived with him.

Well, it may have paid off if he spent an extra two hours learning to pose.

watch the 96 BFTO.  Paul is training back with charles glass.  Glass has him doing a superset on the lat pulldown and paul does one set facing the stack then Glass has him turn around and do another set with his back to the set..ummmmm..paul, you're not really using that much weight and it's a superset..you're supposed to move kinda quickly...but paul just takes his time and charles is like lets go paul.  then we have epic footage of him doing t-bar rows with a whole 100lbs-might be less.

Paul looks great and all but don't act like you're training hard, that's an insult to guys who really train hard.

It seems the ones who really do currently are Jay, Ronnie, JJ and Branch.

well I've got the 98 BFTO and paul looks amazing and he's lifting pretty heavy on some stuff but the wieght he's using on the 96 version is a little pussyish if you ask me even if he is a few weeks out from a show and I never say that so it must be bad.

i would love to see what that 15 large bought him. a heavy cycle is hard to spend over $1000 on for most people, go really balls out and i might be able to see 3 or 4, but unless he's also eating all filet mignons and imported fruits i can't imagine what he could have spent all that on.

Perfectly fair, reasonable, and objective comments.  Try saying that on mayhem though.  Honestly, let's see the reaction over there.

if it comes up I'll post the same thing and report back here...maybe I'll post it there tomorrow.

Paul doesn't work with teh chad anymore so I don't think they'd have a problem with it.

How do you figure?

I guess it depends on what you consider "expensive"

gh is like 0.85/iu from china.  unless you're buying it from someone at the gym it's dirt cheap.
