as a child of the 80s i grew up on enter the dragon/commando/blood sport/rocky 3 & 4/rambo 1,2,3.Out of those I think enter the dragon was really the one that planted the seed, his low bodyfat and lats were insane to me back then.I think most of us here were mainly influenced by the 80s action stars.

I think it must've been Conan the Barbarian with Arnold (1982) or He-Man from Masters of the Urinals (1983).

I'm sure Sly in Rocky 3 helped to inspire as well as Ivan Drago(Dolph) in Rocky 4.
Bruce in Way of the Dragon and Fist of Fury inspired me to start training Martial Arts (saw those in the 70s).

Hope you wore those sweat bands and did the preworkout skipping for the full muscular gains!

Wasn’t a movie. Got to college and realized I was a small fish in a big pond. Started lifting to stand out more and get in better shape. I really liked it for a while and kept with it to gain size rather than ripped up. I’d say like most of us, Pumping Iron helped push/motivate from standard working out for health to working out to get big.
-
Oh and Ultimate Warrior was an inspiration as well!
Dude looked like a superhero from the comics.
(didn't know anything about Steroids back then)
When i first watched wrestling i thought he looked so much cooler than the others.
Sure, Hogan, Tugboat, Earthquake and Andre were big but not as impressive / ripped.
Much cooler than Hitman, Snuka, Jake the Snake and the others too
He had that special thing

Pumping iron was a huge inspiration for me in my teens... And all the Arnold movies terminator predator especially.
But the movie I remember that actually first planted the idea that I could make my muscles bigger was double impact, I remember seeing it when I was like 12, there s a scene where he works out using random equipment. That's when I realised I could start lifting myself. It gave me the idea to load my school bag with books and starting doing curls every night.
-
Pumping Iron.

I used to drag the weights up from my basement and workout to the rocky movies.

Lou Ferrigno was a big dude for sure, but the first 2 gifs you posted are morphed

Funny how the majority of us were inspired by the same things. Mine was definitely a combination of Hulk Hogan, JVCD and Lou Ferrigno.
I was absolutely obsessed with WWF during the Hogan era and truly believe that if I said my prayers and ate my vitamins that I could look like him one day. My dad must have been laughing his ass off inside, because he was a big dude (probably juiced, who knows lol) and knew the truth, but he never let on! LOL
The reason Lou had such an impact is that I actually met him at an autograph signing at my dad's gym when I was 8 years old, and he was coming back for the Olympia in 1992. I had met "Big Daddy" Dan Wilkenson (played for OSU and went #1 overall in the NFL draft) at an autograph signing at my local Big Bear grocery store shortly before meeting Lou, and while he was a monster, he was just a fat slob. When I met Lou, my freaking mind was blown! I couldn't believe how tall/huge he was.
My dad's biggest memory of the incident is that to get a pic with Lou (mind you, you are taking it yourself with a poloroid camera), you had to buy a printed copy of a picture of him, and have him autograph it. Looks like Lou hasn't changed a bit in almost 30 years! LOL!

So, first buy a printed copy of a picture, then buy an autograph, and THEN you were allowed to take a Polaroid together with him!
Quite the procedure!

Quite the procedure!
You buy the printed picture which he then autographs in front of you, and THEN you are allowed to walk behind the table and get your picture taken with him. My parents actually stumbled upon the picture when they were moving around 10 years ago, and emailed me a picture of it.
I will say this, as much of a douche as Lou is considered, he looked like a freaking monster in the pic with me! Legit looked like he was the biggest person on earth at the time!

You owe Lou $20!
All of these movies and wrestlers already mentioned inspired me as well as the comic book heroes.
My Hulk Hogan inspiration story. When Hogan and Mean Jean first came over to the WWF from the AWA they cut a promo where Jean was following Hogan around watching him train. Hogan was showing how he ate and put several eggs in a glass and swallowed them whole. I was just a kid and decided I would do that as well to get huge so I broke up about 6 eggs and put them in a glass, swallowed them whole, and then puked them up all over the kitchen. I've never eaten raw eggs since.

Enjoy salmonella. ;D BTW, I said Mean Jean and it's Mean Gene Okerlund.

I saw Bruce Lee’s first two films in October 1973. That was the start. Seeing Steve Reeves as Hercules on the late show Saturday nights was also inspiring.

I have had salmonella.
I was living alone at the time, was impossible to go the shop due to diarrhoea. I had a non-stop fever for 3 days, in my delirious mind my bed was a boat rocking on the waves in stormy sea, my head was spinning and I was dizzy, and my body and sheets were soaking wet from sweat.

I got it from a raw egg.
Usually, it was fine, I had been having them for awhile, but the shell must have been damaged and I didn't notice it. As soon as I downed it, I knew it must have been off. In hindsight, I should have forced myself to vomit.

92-93 was when Jean Claude was most popular in Hollywood i believe
-
Predator, Pumping Iron, The Running Man, Rambo 2, Rocky 4, Kickboxer, the two Conans and Double Impact (later, Bloodsport and one of those Best of the Best flicks -- pretty sure it was the second). I always aspired to a Yang Tse build because I thought huge pecs looked cool. I did okay toward that goal until I got sick :/

Hard Target was one of his best films, I might go 1) Bloodsport, 2) Hard Target, 3) Kickboxer as my top 3.

Agreed, and I'm glad my dad ponied up the money to buy the stupid autographed picture so I could get a picture with him.
The thing is I went to a TON of autograph signings as a kid. My best friends dad was obsessed with sports cards/autographs! I grew up in Columbus Ohio, and my buddies dad was willing to drive damn near anywhere in Ohio if the person was a big name.
What I remember most is that 95% of the athletes/celebrities were nice as fuck! Mostly because I was between the ages of 6-12 when we were doing this, and I was a really hyperactive kid who was obviously pumped up to meet him. With that said, it was obvious from the minute I walked up to Lou's table, that he couldn't give two fucks that some pumped up little kid wanted to talk to him! Not that I blame him, but this might have something to do with his unpopularity! LOL!

I’d say Ivan Drago, The Ultimate Warrior and Pumping Iron.

i always heard sybil danning wasn't a big fan of mister 110 percent. When she heard about the gladiator's cloak, Sybil Danning knew that things were not going to be great between her and Lou Ferrigno. This was on the set of 'Hercules,' in Rome, where Sybil was co-starring with the onetime Incredible Hulk.
The tension had been building. Ferrigno had already insisted that Sybil give up the role of Circe, the good sorceress, and play Adriana, the evil Greek princess. Now he wanted her to wear a cloak.
"None of the other gladiators wore cloaks," Danning said. "I was the only female gladiator. Why did I have to wear a cloak? It wasn't fair. Also, all the gladiators rode in together on horseback, except me. Lou wanted me to ride at least five feet behind him."
She seemed amused by his presumption. How could a cloak possibly add to the appeal of Sybil Danning? This evening in Chicago, for example, she was wearing a blazer and pants. There was nothing under the blazer. The regulars in the bar at Riccardo's took turns walking past the table at a snail's pace.
"There was another thing," Danning said. "Ferrigno insisted that the movie be rated PG. It started out as 'Conan Meets Body Heat' and ended up as 'Superman Meets the Hulk.' There could be nothing R-rated in the film. He didn't want to disappoint all the little kids who loved him as the Incredible Hulk."
She sipped her Bloody Mary.
"Well," she said, "this is definitely a 'Hercules' for kids, all right. For the little, little, young, young kids."
When you are known as the Queen of the Bs, you do not develop a lot of false illusions. Sybil Danning has probably been in more different movies in the last fifteen years than any other actress in the free world, and they can't all be 'Citizen Kane.'
"I think the costumes deserved more credit than some people gave them," she said. "One review said they looked like Frederick's of Hollywood. I had one leather costume that was a cross between Late Greek and Early Egyptian. Very authentic. Some things you do for the roles, some things you do for the money."
Before 'Hercules,' for example, she made 'Gladiators,' also with Ferrigno. That was where the tension between them started to build. At about the same time, she made 'Chained Heat,' in which Danning plays the leader of a prison gang. In a few days she was to start filming 'Playing with Fire,' a teenage sex comedy co-starring Eric Brown, of Private Lessons. Then it was off to Brazil to film 'Jungle Heat' ("a female 'Deliverance,' with me in the Burt Reynolds role") and then back to Hollywood for 'Cops,' with Danning on the homicide squad.

Sybil Danning? If the name does not immediately ring a bell, try to think back to the cover of the August 1983 Playboy. That was Sybil on the cover in a chain mail swimming suit, right next to the line Queen of the Action Flicks Heats Up a Ten-Page Pictorial.
I noticed, I said, a lot of leather and chains in the ten-page pictorial. Was that your idea?
"Leather and chains?" Danning said. "Not really. Well, there was a shot of me in the thigh-high leather boots, wearing the sort of chain harness. Is that the one you were thinking of?"
That was the one I was thinking of, I said.
"The whole thing with Playboy has been a long drawn-out affair with a happy ending," she said. "I was first photographed for Playboy back in 1979. At that time I was not ready for total nudity. I told them they could photograph half of me."
The right or left half? I asked.
"Funny. Then the Bo Derek issue came out. Remember? Where you could see everything except her chromosomes? And so my photos were not daring enough. Playboy kept after me, though, and finally, this year, I felt emotionally and physically ready to do a totally nude layout. Also, we made a good arrangement involving display on the cover for both the American and foreign editions. If you're going to do something like that, you want people to know, don't you?"
She unrolled a large poster showing her posing on the cover of Playboy.
"This was a good photo," she said, "but in the Japanese edition they used a more aggressive pose, with my arm up in the air, and you could see everything -- I mean I had a little rash under my arm, and you could even see that. They're supposed to airbrush their photos to make them look better, but they airbrushed nothing on me. Sometimes a little airbrushing doesn't hurt. Remember that cover of Raquel Welch leaning over with the incredible behind? That wasn't all her. She wanted a little more, and they airbrushed it in. And for their thirtieth anniversary edition, they're going to have to give Joan Collins a waist."

How do you know all this stuff? I asked.
"Little birds."
She ordered another Bloody Mary. I asked her where she was staying.
"The Whitehall," she said. "I wonder if Richard Burton is staying there, too. He's in town for 'Private Lives.' They keep their guest list very hush-hush, you know. They won't even tell you if you're staying there."
What would happen if Richard Burton did happen to be at the Whitehall? I asked.
"Nothing. He's happily married. I had my chance."
You did?
"When I was making 'Bluebeard' with him in Budapest. That was the one where I was chandeliered to death."
Let me be sure I get this down correctly, I said. You were chandeliered to death?
"Afterwards, Richard asked me to come into his dressing room. I was such a fan of his I was so scared! He was so sweet, romantic, sexy and tender. There were so many women on the picture. There were eight women in the film, and each one worked one week. I shouldn't be telling all of this. Richard is in town and he might read it."
Just tell the parts he'd be interested to read, I said. He's not crazy about giving interviews. Maybe he'll demand a retraction and I can get an interview that way.
"Well, we were drinking vodka. The next thing I knew, I was swept up in his arms and out into his Rolls-Royce, and there we were, going across the river from Pest to Buda. And he put his arm around me and said, Here I am, a poor coal miner's son, sitting in my Rolls with a beautiful blonde. I'm going to spend the night with you."
And what did you say to that? I asked.
"My answer was no."
And what did he say then?
"He said, All right, then, I'll only spend five hours."
And then what?
"We got to my hotel and I didn't even look back, I went right up to my room, alone. And when I got the door closed, I thought to myself, What an idiot!"
He was?
"No. I was."
