Always hear crap about how we need more affordable housing

Are minorities and poor white people going to keep hammering this idea or will the gov allow for affordable housing. Gotta love how its a race and class argument when simply its the gov that makes you pay out the ass for some dirt, tile, pipes, brick,wires and wood that you have to buy and build yourself.

The average poor family can build an entire 3 bedroom house themselves under 5k in materials

The average poor family has neither 5k nor skills to build a birdhouse let alone a real house.

That being said, there are people who build 5k houses and live in them - they are are called hillbillies.

The reason housing is expensive for working people is govt and banks.

Housing prices depend on what people are willing to pay. Also nevermind someparts beat me to it. The amount of skill that goes into every new home built in this country is extraordinary. Go try and build a staircase from scratch without the internet or anyone helping onky you and your ingenuity. Or get a foundation level. The list goes on.

Just need 5k in bricks , plywood, 2x8's , 2x4's ect. You do need alot of materials and tools . But yeah people want affordable housing that means tax payers should pay for it right?
The best way to appease middle n low income folk is let them build there own, no red tape, then everyone becomes self reliant

You couldn’t even buy a lumber package for a 1,000 square foot house for $5k. I’d like to know where you’re buying from.

Problem is government regulations when they get an inspector on the property. Zoning laws, strict rules and fines, "safety" compliance code standards that can be confusing and expensive to follow. Building one's own home is the heart and soul of America, going back to the Homestead Act and before. Very hard to do now, unless you are in an out of the way, rural area. Fantastic idea to solve affordable housing though. After WW2, returning Vets used to pick out a home plan to build their own house from Sears. Rarely done now.

Only in a place like Presidio,  TX where there are no building permits.   Rising Housing prices are not the only problem but a stagnation of income.  Minimum wage is 15 years old and it needs to be raised
