For those that don't know, that picture was taken 2 months after Goodrum caught an horrible case of dysentery while visiting his friend Vince Basile (Mr.Canada 1970, inventor of the 1st biceps supination machine) in Australia. That case of dysentery caused him to lose 20+ pounds and a good bit of time off his training. It also fractured Basile and Goodrum's relationship, as Goodrum blamed him for the whole thing.

Melvin was also trained by one of the first openly gay bodybuilding gurus of the 20th century, Ms. Vissy of South Carolina."
