The Rock returned on RAW moments ago. Here is a recap from our RAW report:
Back and the host is……causing electrical noises in the arena. There go the lights. They’re going out all over the arena. There goes the Tron and the Elimination Chamber sign. Vince isn’t advertising a PPV? This MUST be huge. A light comes on the screen and it’s…….THE ROCK!!!!!!!!! I’m stunned at this. He looks like he’s in great shape. To put it mildly, the place erupted.
After seven long years……FINALLY, The Rock has come back to Anaheim, to Raw, and Home. When he had the mic up you could see his hand shaking. He has many nicknames, but tonight he’s Dwayne. It’s been a long time since he’s been here and it’s not because of money or to promote a movie but because of the fans. The fans helped him accomplish his goals and dreams. He wants to thank the fans and tell them he loves them and because of them he’s back in the ring and he’s never ever going away.
He says he called Vince and Vince said he needed a host that was electrifying. He needed someone that would get the people talking. He needed a host that would ignite things and that would be Justin Bieber. Justin is cool, but only the Rock could be the host of Mania. He hasn’t lost a step on the mic at all. At the drop of a dime he’ll lay the smack down at Wrestlemania, but the question is to who.
Could it be Miz? He says he’s heard Miz is awesome. Rock isn’t a scientist but if you’re always saying you’re awesome it means you absolutely suck. Rock says there is one man he’s going to see at Mania, but there’s an E-Mail before he gets to say it. Rock isn’t pleased. He cuts Cole off before he can answer, asking if Cole thinks anyone gives a damn what the GM has to say.
Rock: “Michael Cole, is that what you think?” Cole: “Well…” Rock: “IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK! You sit down at that table and know your damn role and shut your damn mouth!” He says if Cole doesn’t then Rock will have some special Facebook pictures tonight of him taking that computer, shining it up real nice and putting it straight up Michael Cole’s candy ass. Now sit down because you look like a drunk hobbit.
Anyway there is one man that Rock has to see face to face. Rock has met him before and thinks he’s a cool guy. When Rock left this guy came in and started talking trash about the Rock. His name is JOHN CENA. WWE has gone from Austin 3:16 to Can Your Smell What the Rock is Cooking to….You Can’t See Me? He does the hand motion and asks if he’s playing peek-a-boo. A blindfolded Stevie Wonder in a basement can see you.
Everyone can see Cena. He runs around here in colored shirts looking like a bright bowl of Fruity Pebbles. Rock has said ass about 15 times in 10 minutes. He’ll see Cena at Wrestlemania. He’ll also see Miz and everyone else at Mania. Rock guaran-damn-tees three things for Mania. He’ll show the world he’s the most electrifying man in entertainment. At the drop of a dime he’ll lay the Smacketh Down on all their candy asses. Finally, the Rock and the MILLIONS and MILLIONS of Rock’s fans will electrify Wrestlemania….IF YA SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!!!
Absolute gold!! In ten minutes of airtime, The Rock made Cena and the rest of the WWE lame roster look ridiculous and had the entire Anahiem Pond on his side.

I can't see him ever returning to wrestling full-time.
Maybe he'll wreslte semi-regularly to generate some cross-interest for his movies, or maybe that's what Vince is hoping he'll do for the WWE, but as an established Hollywood star, why would Rock give that up to go on the road 300 days/year for a very small fraction of what he's making now?
Even if the movie gig has slowed, he's made enough money to this point that I doubt he needs to wrestle.

Not that young....About to turn 39 years old in a few months. But his body is well rested from being so many years away from wrestling.
He's not coming back to the roster. Not a chance.

Well, one thing is for sure. Vince is grasping at straws, thus shelling out the coin to bring the Rock back. Who else is there left? Undertaker is broken and old and already only wrestling PPV's only, Jericho is gone, Edge is leaving when his contract is up, Triple H is up getting up there in age and has already suffered numerous injuries thus taking almost a year off.
Is anyone hear gonna shell out 150.00 per ticket to watch The Miz main event against R-Truth? I highly doubt it.

He was making 1 mil per year back from 2000-2004. You an rest assured he is getting 2 mill easily. Same deal as Cena and Triple HHH when they were in their primes.

If they're going to that much work and expense (not that this is the only reason they're bringing Rock back), I hope Cena can capitalize on the move.
I remember when Scott Hall was "technically" a heel, yet came out to pops and resorted to catch-phrases that elicited even more pops.
Triple H was always a better heel, in my opinion, because he played a "true" heel.
He abandoned all the stuff that made the fans like him.
He played a prick, and did so quite masterfully.

I agree too. Cena just needs to shut-up and let Rock put him over as a heel. He can make fun of him and have people booing/hating him in less than 3 weeks...guaranteed.....t hen just have Cena act the dumbass gimmick that he already has.

They need to change Cena's gimmick any way. It's extremely lame but then again...so is wrestling these days.
Bringing Rock back is a huge shot in the arm for the WWE. Wrestlemania will be highly anticipated this year with the fans. They need to promote it correctly and start getting some matches set in stone. It seems that they never build Wrestlemania up with highly anticpated matches. Seems like matches on the card are always thrown together quickly within weeks of the event date with no buildup.

I'm surprised it didn't get confiscated but either way.....its coming from a kid....
What does that tell you? Cena has long been played out. Everyone is sick of seeing him get lumped out, then go to a PPV and win the title...yet again and again and again.

The absolute most excited i have been about wrestling in many a year, i celebrated like it was 2001 again!
Vince was so hesitant to turn Cena heel because of the money he makes, but i can safely assume The Great One would comfortably eclipse what Cenas merch brings in. I dont want to get too carried away but i just caught it and am completely buzzing.
God i forgot what a wrestling crowd sounded like, this is something to add to the loudest pops thread. Well done Vince, that was the best move you have made in years.

Nah, they should milk it out for a few weeks....plus i wouldn't have him start trying to cut "cool heel" promos as it sets it up to have a split crowd, which as soon as Rock goes back to movies could be hard for Cena to win back over.

I remember some of Cena's old heel promos, and all I can say is, he and Dwayne better script whatever they say carefully, because what the Rock would do to him on a live riff would be hard to recover from. It'd be like Ric Flair cutting his promo on the Warrior.

Last night was probably the best segment on Raw in the past 10 years. I know Rock had mentioned some months back that he and Vince had discussed doing something, but that he wanted it to be big. Well, it certainly met that criteria. I'd love to see him wrestling at WM, but I really can't see that happening. A match against Taker would be a huge draw though. I think I'd prefer to see him make well timed appearances throughout the year, and maybe one or two matches here and there. The guy's a legend, gonna be a HoF'er, and doesn't need to go on the road again.

There was discussion at RAW that the anonymous RAW General Manager will be revealed as Vince McMahon, thus leading to a Vince McMahon-The Rock angle at WrestleMania. This could also be part of the reason Vince McMahon did not appear on RAW last night as originally planned.
– As noted earlier, numerous major media outlets have picked up The Rock’s return to WWE. The Associated Press, FOX News, PEOPLE, The Washington Post, and many others have covered the story thus far. Expect lots more media in the coming days.

If anyone remembers back in 2003, Cena was a great heel when he played a "white trash rapper". Turning Cena heel CAN succeed. The question is are the WWE willing to lose a good chunck of merchandise sales?

The Rock dropped the "Ass" word about twenty times in his promo. I say loose the PG bullshit and let 'em do their thing. If people don't like it, change the channel. Or do what they used to do here....have a PG show at 9am and the uncensored version at midnight.

The PG stuff is just fine. At the end of the day, it's about the feuds and the action in the ring, not about cussing.

I don't know why they brought Christian back last night to save Edge from Del Rio. It's bad enough that they didn't build up the feud more, between Del Rio and Edge. Edge was still piddling around with Dolph Ziggler, after the Rumble.
The Miz-Cena match has more roots to it. So, it will likely be the last match at WrestleMania. Unless they put Rock in the mix to stir things up, Miz can kiss his title goodbye, as this will be the 8th straight championship match (and the 7th straight World/WWE title match for Cena at the big dance). And he's only lost ONCE: The Triple Threat Match at WM 24.
Heel champ vs. face challenger.....you know the routine.
One thing I'd like to see happen, if they don't plan on having Cena win the title, is to have Rock keep Cena from winning, only to have Jerry "the King" Lawler (fresh off a MITB win) cash in the briefcase on Miz and win the title. Then, he can retire the next night as champion, set up a tournament and have Rock and Cena in the finals.

I really like that. Doubt vkm would give King that kinda moment at WM, but you never know. A tournament could really be a very good thing for the title, kinda put more prestige back into it.

Timmy is'nt a Miz fan. But how can anyone say he's not doing a great job? He looked great last night on Raw. Talked and wrestled great as well. Timmy thinks he's going to retain.
I doubt it, unless something silly happens (ala Rock interfering in the match). Again, it's the classic WrestleMania formula: Heel WWE Champion + Face Challenger = New WWE Champion crowned at WrestleMania.
13 times we've had that set-up at WrestleMania. 11 times the heel champion has LOST.
The lone exceptions were Helmsley (WM 16/2000) and Orton (WM 24). And, those were either in Triple Threat or Fatal Four-Way matches. In one-on-one confrontation, the heel champ drops the strap.

Miz hasn't had his big "gettin over" moment yet.....tons of potential though. Great young mic, good in ring, but needs to get bigger. Needs to add to his arsenal on the mic, "Really? Really?! I agree. Miz certainly has potential, although its hard for me to ever erase from memory him getting started on MTV Road Rules, or whatever....but he sure seems to have a good work ethic. And I think he is one of the best young guys they have at attempting to use ring psychology.

Look who's laughing now? He's probably earning between $250,000-$500,000 in salary while all his other reality TV roommates are not doing squat these days.

haha, i was thinking about that too. He was basically "in character" on the show and nobody would f with him in the physical stuff. Good for him, he believed in something and stuck with it.....

Timmy missed last Mondays Raw. Was working and F'd up the Tivo. What was Cena's response to The Rock rap from the week before?
Honestly Chef, it wasn't anything special. The crowd at one point was cheering "Rocky Rocky!" That's how bad it was. Brutal. I think this may be a mistake on WWE's part because by bringing the Rock back even if it is temporarily (which I think it is), they are destroying Cena's credability (or what little he has of it). Cena simply cannot compete with The Rock.

Honestly Chef, it wasn't anything special. The crowd at one point was cheering "Rocky Rocky!" That's how bad it was. Brutal. I think this may be a mistake on WWE's part because by bringing the Rock back even if it is temporarily (which I think it is), they are destroying Cena's credability (or what little he has of it). Cena simply cannot compete with The Rock.
I beg to differ. Rock's responses have been LAME, ever since Cena blasted him the week after Rock's return.
I'm still curious to see how this is going to "help" Cena in the long run.

Since Cena already gets partially booed (depending on what part of the country he's located), the only way you could possibly make him a complete heel is to align him with Mr. McMahon, ala Austin 2001.
Cena is the focal point of WWE; or, as I said weeks ago, he's like a boy-band: You either love him or love to HATE him.

The Rock was straight up hilarious. When they showd the crowed even the crowd was laughing with the odd kid that had a sad face. I said it before, this may be a huge mistake on WWE's part by destroying what little credability Cena has for a temporary Rock return.

I'm a Cena fan but I don't think he has that much credibilty with a lot of fans in the first place. The kids and women who are most of his fanbase will cheer him no matter what the Rock says. Most male wrestling fans over the age of 12 never thought he had any.

Hardly!!! Cena clowned him and he has YET to recover. From that tirade he did the week after Cena clocked him, to this recent mess with that little kid in the Cena clothes. That was weak. Rock's initial shot at Cena was funny. But, the rest has been garbage.

The Rock OWNED Cena. Mpopped the floor with him and spiked the ratings for that 15 minutes. How did Cena clown him? By blowing on a flower? Big deal. Not one person in the crowd gave a damn, hell the crowd was yelling, "Rocky! Rocky!".

If they're going through with a Cena heel turn, I don't think it would help the cause to have Rock cost him the match via interference.
It would be interesting if they had Rock & Cena form a faction, upon which it is revealed that they "duped" the fans into expecting a feud between the two.

Have to say the impersonation of the Rock by the Miz was absolutely hysterical. To see people in the crowd go ape shit like he was there...only to have it be Miz....HA HA. Wish he hadn't torn the skull cap off though and went through a little more stuff to solidify or bring about a bigger heel persona.

They are really thin on faces not just on RAW but in general. If Cena turned, I don't know who they would have challenge him unless they do a double turn and Miz becomes a face.

Damn, that's a tough call.
There are plenty of fans who want to boo Cena, but there are just as many who want to cheer him, and neither side "needs" any more reason to do either respectively.
I think the biggest challenge is getting everyone on the same page.
It's unusual for a main-event, company posterboy to receive such a mixed reaction from the fans to the extent that Cena has.
IMO, to put him in a program with Rock suggests that it is to take Cena to the next level by getting him over in a way he could never accomplish himself.
And, that's not to say it will necessarily be a heel or face push, per se.
This could be a reversion to the "Attitude Era," which saw less focus on the good guy/bad buy paradigm, and more emphasis on "characters."
Bringing back guys like Austin & Rock (even just temporarily) would certainly make sense as a reintroduction to this format.
Either way, change is on the horizon.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see. There has been zero talks of Cena turning heel. I have a funny feeling that someway somehow, Cena and the Rock will become "buddies" after the match and trump the Miz.

That's what I see happening. No way IMO is Cena going to do anything heelish. Remember Rock's first promo when the GM sent an email and no one read it? Did they ever follow up with that?

When I was at Raw when they came to my city, I scooped up a new Triple H tee shirt at the concession stand and it was FULL of kids with parents shelling out 45 bucks Canadian a pop for a purple John Cena teeshirt. Multiply that by a sold out Air Canada Center of 20,000.

I thought all 3 guys were really good last night. I thought that the last part part of Cena's promo was great...I don't know why he spent the first part kissing Rock's ass. Miz proved that he can hold his own with both of them, I thought he looked liked he belonged. No wasy is this a Cena heel turn. The part of the crowd that hates him still does, the FU was something for the fans that will always like him. Great last show before WM.

Cena's promo was too long, I thought. Sometimes he just rambles on and on. You mean to tell me that the Rock's character would allow an opponent to drone on forever before stopping him cold with a hand in the face? Just wasn't believable to me.
Also....hope Rock didn't fuck up his knee on that attempted pop-up after the Rock Bottom. Anyone catch that? Those pop-ups are a little harder to do when you're in your late 30's. LOL....

Clearly after last nights segment.....one will surly see how the Rock owned the crowd and all persons in the ring. The Rocky chants were just enormous. Cena got bood out of the building and tried to save face by playing to the crowd talking about kids and whatnot and it just didn't work.

Cena always gets booed to hell in Chicago ..look at WM 22. If he didn't kiss the Rock's ass for 10 minutes it would have been much better IMO. The second part of the promo was spot on. "Team Bring It" is just as dumb as the "Chain Gang" was. The Rock is much better at comedy promos. I watched it as a fan and enjoyed it.

Maybe lol. I usually agree but it was the show before WM so I guess it was expected. The first time Rock-Cena have been face to face so it was bound to go long. I agree that the HHH-Taker promo was too long. They crammed in a month of build into one segment.

That's just it though, the WWE hasn't made nearly as much money as they did. As for the 22 minute TNA promo, they can't cut promos period. At least the Rock could and he had the entire crowd in the palm of his hand. Any heat/reaction is good heat so it didn't hurt Cena either.
