The Obamas' summer break in Martha's Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets.
But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances.
White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers' money on vacations alone in the past year.

The magazine also reported that Mrs Obama, whose fashion choices are widely followed, had been going on 'wild shopping sprees', much to the distress of her husband, who, its sources reveal, is 'absolutely furious' at his wife's 'out-of-control spending'.

His wife and daughters, who arrived just four hours earlier, were also travelling from Washington, but took a specially designed military aircraft.

Not only that, there's no such thing as a presidential vacation. The trips are mainly for the family itself. The president always travels with the office in tow and has been obviously working during the trip.
As far as the use of Air Force One is concerned, if you've ever been on the plane, you will know that its basically a flying office.

The President of the United States gets 400k a year salary, 100k travel account, 50k expense account, and a 19k entertainment account. In addition, he gets use of the Presidential car, the two planes, and the helecopter, not to mention security for the immediate family. That's it...anything else comes out of his pocket. There isn't a bottomless pit for spending money.
Complain about it all you want but every other POTUS has gotten the same things.

Let s for the sake of argument assume the POTUS spent all his 400K on vacations plus the travel and entertainment allowances for 3 years. That still leaves about 8.2 million unaccounted for.

With the United States facing a national debt of more than $14 trillion, the largest since World War Two, wouldn’t it make sense for the White House itself to start trimming its own spending? A good place to begin cutting would be Michelle Obama’s rather generous vacation programme. Keith Coffler, who edits the influential White House Dossier, notes that Michelle Obama spent no less than 42 days on vacation over the past year – that’s one in every nine days:
Her vacations, the cost of which are mostly borne by taxpayers, include trips to Panama City, Fla., Martha’s Vineyard, Hawaii, South Africa, Latin America, Vail, Colo., and her visit this week to her brother in Corvallis, Ore.
The total does not include a nine day sojourn in Martha’s Vineyard that the Obamas will enjoy this month. Nor does it include a trip she made to Ireland and Great Britain in May, which I’m counting as official travel.
As Coffler points out, there is a significant cost to the public purse:
Taxpayers pick up most of the cost of transporting the first lady and her extensive entourage – including Secret Service and her staff – to her various destinations. While she may in some cases pay some of the tab for her personal expenses and travel, the amount is dwarfed by the overall cost to the public.
It is unclear what the total cost to the taxpayer actually amounts to. According to one estimate provided by the Daily Mail, the First Lady stands accused by sources inside the White House of spending “$10 million of US taxpayers’ money on vacations alone in the past year.” Judging by the amount of vacation time Michelle Obama has taken and the level of security and staffing that she has, this sounds like a plausible figure. It would be in the public interest to have the exact numbers provided by the White House so that Americans know precisely how much of their money is being spent on vacations.
There does appear to be an unhealthy sense of entitlement on the part of the First Lady, which seems in poor taste at a time when 14 million Americans are out of work, the housing market is collapsing, and the United States is facing the strong possibility of a double-dip recession. Perhaps Mrs Obama could take a few tips on austerity as well as humility from her British counterpart Samantha Cameron, who has just one assistant, in contrast to at least 17 personal staff for the First Lady, and doesn’t feel the need to travel en masse with an entourage at taxpayers’ expense. The vast majority of Americans are making significant sacrifices at this time of economic turmoil, and tens of millions are struggling even to make ends meet. It’s time for both the President and the First Lady to exercise a bit of fiscal responsibility, not least when they are spending other people’s hard-earned money.

The lawsuit was filed because the Air Force "failed to produce" the requested records after a Freedom of Information Act request, Judicial Watch said.

All they do is change the scenery, and tweak their daily routine a little. Presidents carry the office with them, wherever they go. The morning briefing will happen -- whether the President is in D.C., Texas or Hawaii. The President is in constant communication wherever he is -- flying at 30,000 over the Pacific or biking down trails. The President deals with work every day -- whether "at work" in the Oval Office, or "on vacation" in Hawaii.
Second... and the problem with the President taking some vacations is, what exactly? Every other public employee is entitled to vacation time. Why shouldn't the President? Especially around traditional holidays, such as Christmas, which are family oriented?
With all that said, I think that an excessive amount of vacation time is distasteful from someone elected to do a job by and on behalf of the American people, even if it's a working vacation. This was a big issue with George W. Bush as well, so this isn't something endemic to either the Fingerlicans or the Tastycrats.

The sad fact is that nobody calls Trump out for the liar that he is, and everyone sees him as some sort of über-successful über-businessman that personifies the American dream. But he is paying out of his own pocket for his lodging. While his security is provided by the Secret Service -- no different from any other President -- and is a cost that will be borne by the taxpayers, that would have been true whether he was in D.C. or Hawaii or anywhere else for that matter, so I don't see the problem there.

In addition, Hawaii Reporter was able to obtain more specifics about the executive expenditures.

(CNSNews.com) - Michelle Obama celebrated her 48th birthday Tuesday night with her husband and friends at a D.C. steakhouse where the menu features a $28 hamburger named "The Obama."
BLT Steak describes its "Obama" burger as an 8-ounce American Kobe burger with bacon, cheddar cheese, burnt tomato ketchup, and scallion mustard.
American Kobe beef is from a line of Japanese Wagyu cattle, which traditionally are fed a special diet and massaged to produce the fat-marbling for which the meat is prized.
But the Obamas didn't have burgers--they reportedly had steak in the private dining room.
In response to a query from CNSNews.com, the BLT restaurant chain would not provide any details of the Obamas' visit, except to say they were "quite honored to have them as our guests."
But according to one food blog--in a town famous for leaks--the President and Mrs. Obama ordered a 10-ounce American Wagyu steak, which at $81 is the second most expensive item on the menu, just behind the 12-ounce American Wagyu for $92.
Dessert reportedly was a special-order red velvet cake.
The a la carte dinner menu, posted online, shows the Obamas had plenty of food to choose from: The appetizers at BLT Steak range in price from $11 (for a Bibb lettuce salad with mustard dressing) to $34 for a dozen oysters.
Entrees range from $26 for lemon-rosemary chicken to $92 for the 12-ounce Wagyu Ribeye.
Side dishes include an $8 order of French fries or onion rings. The most expensive side dish is $13 for "Hen of the Woods" mushrooms.
Most desserts are $10, and they include crêpe soufflé with passion fruit sauce and mini doughnuts with chocolate sauce and coffee ice cream.
"The Obama" is one of 5 burgers listed on the restaurant's "Political Burger Board." At $28, it is the second most expensive burger, right after "The Bi Partisan," which costs $32. The Bi Partisan is also an 8 ounce Kobe beef burger, topped with lobster, cheddar cheese and "black truffle buttermilk dressing." The other three burgers--including "The Pork Barrel"--cost either $16 or $18.
The restaurant's assistant general manager told the blog Foodorama that Michelle Obama "dines with us quite regularly."

Obama Returns to Hawaii at an Added Cost of Over $3 Million

In a move that is rich in irony, President Obama agreed Tuesday night to sign an emergency deficit reduction bill that does almost nothing to rein in spending and then jetted out to Hawaii to resume his vacation at an extra cost of more than $3 million to taxpayers.
The price tag is in addition to more than $4 million that is already being spent on the Obamas’ Hawaii idyll, bringing the total cost of the excursion to well over $7 million.
The added cost was incurred because by the time the Obamas return from Hawaii – whenever that is – the president will have used Air Force One to travel to Honolulu and back twice.
Obama was forced to return from Hawaii just after Christmas to complete negotiations to avoid the Fiscal Cliff, talks resulting in the bill that was passed by Congress last night. Obama resisted significant spending cuts throughout the negotiations, and the final legislation relies almost solely a new taxes to reduce the deficit.
Air Force One is known to cost about $180,000 an hour to fly. Based on an estimated 18 hours roundtrip flying time for the jet between Washington and Honolulu, the travel cost alone of Obama’s decision to return to Hawaii amounts to around $3.24 million. And that doesn’t include the price tag for the massive security operation required to move the president or the cost of the cargo plane that follows Air Force One around.
The Obamas could have saved taxpayers millions by returning from Hawaii together after Christmas and then resuming their vacation at one of the many ritzy resorts that lie outside of Washington. If the beach is a must, even a trip to Florida would have been far less expensive.
Or they could have simply stayed at the White House or Camp David, each a luxurious government-run installation, billing taxpayers a relative pittance.
Obama will get a full day of vacation in today, landing in Hawaii early in the morning.

Michelle Obama recently revealed that she and President Obama don’t give Christmas gifts to each other. They merely say, “We’re in Hawaii,” and that’s Christmas gift enough.
But actually the present is from taxpayers, and it’s an expensive one.
The total cost to taxpayers of Obama’s vacations to Hawaii since becoming president is likely in excess of $20 million, and possibly much, much more. During a time of budget deficits that threaten the nation’s security and its future, the Obamas have chosen to maintain a “family tradition” and vacation halfway around the world instead of finding far cheaper alternatives closer to home.
The $20 million figure is based on estimates of the cost of the four Hawaii vacations the Obamas have taken during Christmastime 2009-2012. According to a detailed breakdown by the Hawaii Reporter, the annual excursions in 2009, 2010, and 2011 cost about $4 million, much of it attributable to the expense of taking Air Force One, at an hour rate of about $180,000, on an eighteen-hour roundtrip journey to Honolulu and back.

But $4 million almost certainly underestimates the true tally, as it does not include many miscellaneous items like the cost of flying advance teams out to Hawaii and separate flights Michelle Obama took in 2010 and 2011, when she left ahead of her husband, who was forced to stay in Washington to finish up work with Congress.
This year, Obama returned from Hawaii to complete a deal on the Fiscal Cliff and then jetted back to Honolulu, where he is now engaged in Part 2 of his vacation. The second roundtrip flight added about $3.24 million to the tab this time, bringing the cost of the 2012-1013 vacation to well over $7 million.
If we assume the estimates are probably quite low, then it’s likely to the bill for the combined vacations is more than $20 million.
Given that much of the cost involves transporting the First Family and its retinue, the Obamas could have saved taxpayers millions by doing what the vast majority of Americans do: taking either one trip a year, or none.
The Obamas get plenty of vacation. They have sojourned every summer in Martha’s Vineyard except for last year, when campaigning and pre-election concern about appearances got in the way. They often take a side trip somewhere else during the year, and Michelle goes skiing annually out West.
At the very least, they could spend their Christmas holidays at Camp David or at one of the many fine resorts outside of Washington, which would require only the use of the presidential helicopter to get them there.
If they must find a warm haven, a rental home on the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic shore of Florida, or even Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands could easily be arranged at a fraction of the price of getting to Hawaii.
Some argue that Obama is justified in returning to Hawaii because that is where he spent his formative years. But how many of us get to go visit our roots for a two week vacation every year?
The Obamas probably also feel they must go to Hawaii because they are creatures of habit. While there, they do the same things and visit the same places every year. But their allegiance to routine is costing the taxpayers – including those in the middle class Obama claims to care so much about – millions of dollars.
Which brings us to OBAMA 5-0.

Taxpayers will be sending President Obama on his second vacation of the year when he departs Friday aboard Air Force One for a Presidents’ Day Weekend excursion to West Palm Beach, Florida.
Without apparent irony, Obama has decided to jet to a well-trod stomping ground of the rich just days after presenting himself to the nation in his State of the Union speech as the guardian of the middle class.
Obama presumably will head directly to some fabulous golf course, having not been able to play in recent weeks because of the cold weather in Washington.
While Obama may pay some hotel and other miscellaneous costs related to his vacation travel, taxpayers are on the hook for much of the expense, shelling out for the president’s travel aboard Air Force One, a cargo plane that carries supplies, and the cost of the president’s substantial staff and security retinue.
While unemployment stands at nearly eight percent, Obama is taking his second vacation of 2013. The year is only six weeks old.
Obama initially traveled to Hawaii in late December. He returned after a several days to work on a fiscal cliff deal, and then went back for several more days in early January after signing a bill. So this will also be the third time in less than two months that taxpayers have footed the bill for a round-trip Obama vacation.
It’s not clear if Michelle is going with him – the White House announcement of Obama’s plans doesn’t mention her. She usually goes skiing in the Rockies around this point in the year.

Obamas barely unpacked, off to Martha’s Vineyard vacation

The Obamas have returned to Washington from their trip to Africa, but they won’t be home long. The White House confirmed Friday that the first family will be traveling to Martha’s Vineyard early next month, according to the Boston Globe.
The president, along with first lady Michelle Obama, will arrive on Aug. 10 and plan to stay until Aug. 18. The White House did not disclose whether the couple’s two daughters would be joining them, but the Globe reported reported that they typically go with their parents to the vineyard. The Obamas’ arrival on the wealthy island will be their fourth visit since 2009. They missed a 2012 trip because of the presidential campaign.

The White House did not disclose where the Obamas will be staying. On previous trips, they rented a 28.5-acre estate called Blue Heron Farm, which was sold in December 2011 and is no longer available.
Some of the locals appear to be happy the first family is returning. Well, at least the business owners are. Plans are already in the works to buy a T-shirt at C’est la Vie and indulge in “Obamaritas” at Sharkey’s Cantina.
“We’re just pandering,” Sharkey’s owner JB Blau told the Globe. At least he’s honest.
Sean Federowicz, a real estate agent, told the Globe that the third week of August is the highest of high season, so there would be plenty to do, according to the Boston paper:
The Martha’s Vineyard Livestock Show and Fair, which Obama’s daughters have attended in the past, is Aug. 15-18. The Grand Illumination, an annual outdoor festival in Oak Bluffs, is slated for Aug. 14, and the Oak Bluffs annual fireworks show is scheduled for Aug. 16.
Harry Belafonte will be performing at an invitation only event at Dreamland theater on Aug 12, an event that’s being organized by Charles Ogletree, Obama’s former professor at Harvard Law School.
While Ogletree was with the Obamas at the White House Christmas party, he told the Globe he didn’t know if the presidential family would attend the Belafonte event.
