I think that in this media-driven (mostly peaceful protests) climate of division, there would be rioting if Chauvin were convicted.
-
Whether he gets acquitted or not, there will be riots by a certain group of people.

The fact that Floyd was high on drugs he ate and asked to be out on the floor screaming he could
Not breath before chauvin even was involved creates reasonable doubt. Proving intent is going to be impossible.

I read that the DA hired two private attorneys, one of whom gave the opening statement. Is this common? ???

No.

I’m not placing any bets on which way the jury may go. On one hand they KNOW if they acquit there will be riots. So, do they rule based on evidence or (some)public opinion?

So your opinion from a law enforcement perspective is that Chauvin murdered Floyd?
-
So your opinion from a law enforcement perspective is that Chauvin murdered Floyd?
I can't speak for all law enforcement. I can only speak from my perspective. I believe his negligence while Floyd was in his custody lead to Floyds death. There are a lot of Law Enforcement that share that perspective but certainly not all.
-

I wouldn't place money on it either. Any time a jury is involved as we have learned with OJ and Casey Anthony trials. What they should do is weigh the evidence from both sides and come to a conclusion based on that.
-

My brother is retired LEO and he thinks differently than do you or any other mistaken individuals. I dub thee, "Law Enfarcement".

Negligence does not equal murder. He possibly could get criminally negligent homicide but murder I highly doubt.

We'll disagree on that then.

One wonders if all evidence for the defense will be allowed, especially if it goes against the (new word ALERT!) SHEITGEIST, aka the SHITGHOST, of the PC world . I realize that the majority of libs are too ignorant to understand what I am saying. Ahhh...Who cares? Fuck 'em!
And yes, I spelled "scheiße" that way on purpose. Scheiße is German. Sheit is Ghetto. The libs can eat scheiße for all the civilized world care

You "believe"? There are folk here that "believe" in God and you seem to feeeeeeeeeeeeel that is stupid, so let us examine your stupid.
What about lethal amounts of meth and fentanyl in his system along with Covid 19 which if you're hit by a truck and die will be the cause of your death once the autopsy reveals that Covid 19 is present. Floyd was responsible for his death but since evile "Whitey" wuz holdin' him down 'n' sheit, it is the fault of the LEO. No...Not the one I think you are, i.e., Law Enfarcement Officer, but those that try to enforce the law.
No matter the verdict, there may well be rioting...Oooops! I meant "peaceful bonfires and borrowing of goods from local bidnessez...'n' sheit".
I shake the dust of you and your kind from my mind.

No matter what decision is made by the jury, the Negroes will riot. It's kinda what they do.

Yup. Even if convicted, it "won't be enough" and they will riot.
He's not getting convicted of murder, it's silly to even believe it's an option.
Negligent homicide is the most they can pin him.
I think based on the state of our Country right now, there is a chance the jury might lean a little too far towards that.

Yeah, if he's convicted it will be because of mob fear. They are letting the inmates run the asylum. They cannot be appeased, only force is what they understand. Last year when the riots started (actually before with Ferguson and Baltimore) they should have shot rioters and we would not be having these problems.

Agreed, once they started attacking Cops and setting things on fire, they should have used any force necessary to stop them.
I'd have no issues with a few thousand degenerates getting smoked.

Medical examiner testifies drugs, heart conditions were contributing causes in George Floyd's death. However, Dr. Andrew Baker, the man who performed Floyd's autopsy, said on Friday, April 9, that he still believes that Floyd's direct cause of death was "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression."
Dr. Andrew Baker testified on Friday, April 9, that he still believes that Floyd's direct cause of death was "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression" but, in a break with his peers, called Floyd's heart conditions and drug ingestion "contributing causes." A day earlier, jurors heard testimony that cast the level of methamphetamine and fentanyl found in Floyd's system after he died as relatively low.

You could be right. I wasn't really focusing on Murder vs Criminally Negligent Homicide, just a conviction for the death.

What's the over/under on how many billions of damage the "peaceful protesters" will do when the cops get acquitted?
How many cities will burn?

I think this is a mistake big time here.

I have not been following the case, but judging by the way the media has been treating the defense attorneys, they must be doing a great job.

We'll have to see how it plays out. I typically avoid youtube video with big letters drawing a conclusion and try and focus on the testimony. But given a Jury is involved, it could go either way. I have my personal opinion but won't lose sleep either way

he would have been destroyed on cross examination and all his past incidents (documented reports) would have been fair game
Personally, I think it's fucked up that they jury doesn't get to hear about his past incidents (of where there were many) but they get to hear about past incident/arrests, etc.. of Floyd

Negligence does not equal murder. He possibly could get criminally negligent homicide but murder I highly doubt.
My thought is that Chauvin will be convicted of something, mainly to appease the public, maybe like you suggest it will be criminally negligent homicide or some other lesser charge. Can't be too lenient or it won't work and the demonstrations and riots will continue if not proliferate. I pity any white police person who kills a black man or woman at this point. No matter how justified, it is going to be a no win for the cop.

Weird how he flip flopped on this....
Handwritten notes of a law enforcement interview with Dr. Andrew Baker, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, say Floyd had 11 ng/mL of fentanyl in his system.
"If he were found dead at home alone and no other apparent causes, this could be acceptable to call an OD. Deaths have been certified with levels of 3," Baker told investigators.
In another new document, Baker said, "That is a fatal level of fentanyl under normal circumstances."
But then Baker added, "I am not saying this killed him."
What changed his mind in the last several months? Hmmmm I also wonder if Baker wrote his final report before or after watching the video...

And why was Chauvin on his neck?
Because he wanted to kill him? I don't know. Ask Chauvin. Oh that's right, he took the 5th. Obviously, he doesn't want to talk about that incident.

You clearly did not watch the trial.
If you are taking a poll, I did not watch the trial. It is up to the jury to decide what to do with Chauvin. What I think with regards to this, doesn't mean crap.

I wish he would have take. The stand. Floyd caused his own death. He was a drug addict resisting arrest and ingested a deadly amount of drugs to avoid arrest.
-
The Police should not be held accountable for the abject STUPIDITY of criminals, regardless of the color of their epidermism their status as a cRap fArteest, their failure as anything other than a sperm donor and a host of other reasons. Floyd had Covid 19 in his system. Why is this not the cause of death? His estranged family wants to be compensated for his stupidity, that is why.
Actually, being a fucking retard was the cause of his death. Lethal amounts of Meth and Fentanyl were in his body. I bet his brain was the size of a pea...
-
In the hands of the jury now. I watched portions of the closing by both sides. I'm not seeing murder here. I do think Chauvin should have gotten off of Floyd when he stopped resisting on the ground, but given the evidence of a lethal amount of drugs in his system, the lack of any injury to Floyd's neck, the fact Chauvin was not compressing Floyd's carotid arteries, and the struggle that happened before they got him on the ground, I'm not convinced this was murder.
I also think the judge should have sequestered the jury a long time ago. I don't know how they don't get influenced by the events of the past couple weeks and Maxine Waters' comments.
Overall, I think he should be convicted of some form of police brutality, but not murder (although I don't think they charged Chauvin with anything less than murder/manslaughter?). But I have no idea what the jury is going to do.
-
You must not have watched the video of the whole incident.
I watched it too many times. Not sure what that has to do with my post about Chauvin taking the 5th.

Dreadful...
I don't know that anyone in MN is listening to her, but she'll get folks in LA to play stupid games after the verdict.
https://nypost.com/2021/04/19/judge-in-chauvin-trial-says-waters-comments-could-lead-to-appeal/
The judge in Derrick Chauvin’s murder trial slammed Rep. Maxine Waters’ call for protesters to “get confrontational” if the ex-cop is cleared in the death of George Floyd on Monday — saying it could lead the to the whole case “being overturned.”
The stunning remarks came as the city of Minneapolis braces for unrest while the jury deliberates in the case.
Defense attorney Eric Nelson had urged Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill to declare a mistrial, arguing that “an elected official, US Congressperson” made statements that “I think are reasonably interpreted to be threats against the sanctity of the jury process” and had the effect of “threatening and intimidating the jury.”
Cahill denied the motion but told Nelson, “I’ll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned.”

I don't think this rises to the level of actual doxxing - yet - but CBS made a really bad editorial decision to run this segment.
https://redstate.com/bonchie/2021/04/19/cbs-news-starts-the-process-of-doxxing-chauvin-trial-jurors-n364446
There is nothing more irrelevant in this trial in regards to public knowledge than the “makeup” of the 14 jurors. The process of vetting and weeding out jurors has already been completed with input from both the prosecution, defense, and the judge. At this point, where a juror lives is not information anyone needs to know. But CBS News knows exactly what they are doing here.
Further, this sure seems like a shot across the bow for the jurors to come up with the “right” verdict or face reprisal from the mob, aided and abetted by a news media ready to provide them with personal information. Why are news outlets even hinting at identifying these people when there’s no journalistic value in it whatsoever? I think we know why.

Intimidation factor. Only reason to do this. quite the liberal way of thinking.

Yeah, this is why I think the cop will be convicted. The defense wouldn't want a mistrial if they thought they were winning. They were already talking to the judge about setting up an appeal. The jury will probably convict him of 2nd degree murder.

The Chauvin jury just may do what it wants: Don't believe the pundits telling you that a guilty verdict is a foregone conclusion
American Thinker ^ | 04/20/2021 | John Mastronardi
Posted on 4/20/2021, 10:10:4
All that remains of the trial of Derek Chauvin is the verdict. Conventional wisdom (C.W.), since about two minutes after the first cell phone videos hit the internet and the riots started, was that Derek Chauvin would be convicted of the murder of George Floyd. This C.W. seems to be buttressed by two theories. The first is that the evidence is essentially incontrovertible, so, on the merits, there should be an easy conviction.
The second is entirely cynical: the jury will vote to convict, whether or not the evidence supports a conviction, simply to avoid the riots that will certainly result from a not guilty verdict. Therefore, according to the C.W., a guilty verdict is almost a moral certainty.
When the C.W. is trending in such an overwhelming direction, it’s always prudent to check the other direction. What are the chances of a not guilty verdict? As surprising as it may seem, they might not be as low as people think.
Any attorney who has tried cases before a jury, whether they are civil or criminal, will tell you that the only “certainty” about juries is their uncertainty. Any pundit or so-called “legal expert” who tells you he can predict to any level of precision what verdict a jury will return is spreading the stuff you put on the garden to fertilize the tomatoes.
For the last 26 years, I have defended civil cases, the outcome of which, frankly, mattered to no one beyond the parties involved. They received nowhere near the level of public scrutiny as this one. For the most part, the verdicts came back as expected, but not all of them. Some were very surprising, so trying to predict the Chauvin verdict is truly a fool’s errand.

Ridiculous. Well since Biden was never a real lawyer we probably have to excuse his incompetence and ignorance.

He should have testified.
Usually, defense attorneys don't want their client to testify. His defense attorney didn't seem very impressive to me.
-
He should have testified.
Why? What do you think would have happened during cross examination by the prosecution? Would Chauvin have come off as a sympathetic defendant? “Chauvin doesn’t come across as a warm and pleasant person. And jurors want to see a caring and empathetic person. That is the one big liability: If jurors don’t like Chauvin, his fate is sealed,” said Mike Bravin, a Minneapolis defense attorney who has been following the case closely.

It's okay. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or the last act of retard desperation. I bet Straw Ono hums "Desperado" as he imagines being as "talented" (not really!) a writer as I. Well, I have John and my mother to thank for my less than mad skills... And Straw Ono?
He likes to kneel in homage and obeisance to his teacher and god (small "g" ;) )but I'll let him call it genuflecting in gratitude.

I don't know that comments and potential events outside the trial influenced the decision of the jury. It's easy to assume that they didn't want to give a not guilty verdict to prevent rioting. But the jury found him guilty on all charges. I was a foreman on a jury for a trial on misdemeanor assault and battery. It took us 2 and half hours to render a guilty verdict, (unanimous). At least half the jurors wanted a not guilty verdict. After we reviewed the law and applied it to the testimony and facts they changed their minds.
I wonder what the jury saw and caused them the render a guilty verdict.

Like I said on the G&O. Judge should declare a mistrial because of Biden and Water’s big mouths. This will probably be overturned on appeal

Fauci, the Govt officials, doctors, etc - should have been screaming about the importance of daily exercise, walking, cardio, etc from the very beginning.

I know - believe me - I have friends our age very overweight and short of begging, plead with them to just try to walk a few miles a day, do basic bodyweight exercise, get used to moving and sweating etc. Its extremely frustrating knowing that the stats for people in their 40s, 50, 60,s over 300lbs does not bode well for them.

most people won't do it or won't stick to it because they see it as a chore
luckily for most of us on this board we actually love working out and feel better when we stick to a good diet so for us it's not a chore

I swear by this - I've never once felt worse after finishing working out than when I started. It funny too - the same HS Football mentality these guys are stuck in - walking is for wimps. I'm like - yeah but you can't even walk up a flight of FNG stairs!
IDK, I just don't get it. For me at least, working out to loud as F metal blasting is my favorite part of the day.

Alternate juror has already stated they feared doxxing/rioting and it likely influenced decision.
Cop needed punishment for sure, but have to wonder if, under normal circumstances, the drug aspect would have been enough to cause reasonable doubt and reduce the conviction to manslaughter.

This is alarming to me because the decision of his guilt shouldn't be influenced by the consequences of the verdict. I wonder why the jury wasn't sequestered?

Chauvin was on trial, and likely convicted, on the basis of racism in the court of public opinion, even though racism was never a charge, or ANY part of the prosecution's case.
He deserves jail and punishment absolutely. But like I said, technically there is reasonable doubt, as I understand it.
However, in the true sense of our system, it's really impossible for him to get a fair trial.
What Waters did, and to an extent Biden, should easily have been the case for a mistrial.
I think on appeal, the same thing could be applied - fear of destruction on the scale of the greater good will outweigh overturning this.

So why did President Biden and VP Harris say this was a racist act??
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison made his case for why George Floyd’s death was not charged as a hate crime, arguing that systemic racism, not individual racial motivation, was at work when former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes.
In an interview with “60 Minutes” that aired on Sunday, CBS’s Scott Pelley asked Ellison if he thought Floyd’s death was a hate crime. After a brief pause, Ellison responded it wasn't.
“I wouldn't call it that because hate crimes are crimes where there's an explicit motive, and of bias,” Ellison said. “We don't have any evidence that Derek Chauvin factored in George Floyd's race as he did what he did.”

I had to look this up because I found it surprising. She said that PRIOR to the trial she was worried about how different sides would react to the outcome, but during the course of the trial she became positive of his guilt. She said that she didn't think his lawyers did a good job and the video portrayed him as the ringleader whose actions resulted in Floyd's death and she couldn't understand why he made those decisions. Nothing about her statement says that she thinks fear of doxxing or rioting influenced the other jurors' decision. She's very clear that she would have voted guilty had she been a seated juror.

I'm shocked that someone read a headline of an article and formed a conclusion. But I would be more shocked if G.A. admitted they didn't do their homework

I'm shocked that someone read a headline of an article and formed a conclusion. But I would be more shocked if G.A. admitted they didn't do their homework
I read the article.
An alternate juror in the Derek Chauvin murder trial said she was relieved she wasn’t on the jury because she was “worried” about how people would react to the verdict — but she added that she “felt he was guilty.”
If she felt that way after the verdict, there is no telling how she would have acted in the moment. It's Monday morning QBing. By saying this, she's could easily be the type of someone who chokes under pressure when they're playing the game. And there's no way she would ever say she didn't think he was guilty. Nobody would.
But also: I've given plenty of reasonable, non combative answers to questions you've poised, and you ignore or disappear.
But if you think you see low hanging fruit, there you are.

Here is a link to the full interview with the reporter who conducted it:
https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/george-floyd/derek-chauvin-trial-alternate-juror-lisa-christensen/89-97b74eb1-c875-4ed5-93ad-5c72620b9f18
She was asked about filling out the pre-trial questionnaire for jurors:
Raguse: Did you want to be a juror?
Christensen: I had mixed feelings. There was a question on the questionnaire about it and I put I did not know. The reason, at that time, was I did not know what the outcome was going to be, so I felt like either way you are going to disappoint one group or the other. I did not want to go through rioting and destruction again and I was concerned about people coming to my house if they were not happy with the verdict.
She found out she was an alternate when the case went to the jury. She was asked about when she was dismissed:
Raguse: You were an alternate, but would you have voted guilty or not guilty?
Christensen: I would have voted guilty. However, at the end the judge did read us the rules for deliberation, but it was quick, and I could not absorb it. I would have said guilty on some level. After I was excused, I did not look at the jury instructions any longer. I do not know how hard that process was, but I feel like Chauvin is responsible for Mr. Floyd’s death.
Also:
Raguse: Were you disappointed when you found out that you were an alternate?
Christensen: I was. I spent three weeks of my time, getting invested and going through all kinds of emotions. My heart broke a little when he turned and said, “Number 96, you’re an alternate."
Mileage may vary and all that, but she does not sound wishy-washy about her stance on his guilt to me, nor does she sound like she was relieved to have not been picked.

YMMV for sure, but your conclusion goes against what the author put in the article specifically, and what's in the headline.
I know in media the headline writer is different from those writing the article, but both specifically state she was relieved not to have been picked.
Perhaps the interviewer drew that conclusion based on what was garnered from the conversation? They don't print verbatim what the interviewee states.
-

??? I linked to the entire interview in her words, verbatim and reposted excerpts of her exact words in my last post. I was being sarcastic when I said YMMV. She is very clear about why she thinks Chauvin is guilty and that she would have voted guilty if she had the opportunity.

I totally missed that link and only skimmed your quotes and didn't realize it was a different interview, so that's my bad.
The Post's article says her interview was on CBS This Morning....yours says Kare 11.
Regardless, the link you posted offers much more than the Post article did.
The one telling thing she said there was this:
I was concerned about people coming to my house if they were not happy with the verdict.
To me that tells me she had concerns, and could have also choked if she was in the game, rather than sitting on the bench.
And to reiterate, my angle was never whether Chauvin was guilty or not, he is. I was just wondering, out loud in real time on a message board, if he would get manslaughter on a non-high profile case.
-
I'm shocked that someone read a headline of an article and formed a conclusion. But I would be more shocked if G.A. admitted they didn't do their homework
I'm shocked you made a snide remark and then ran away instead of engaging.

Systemic racism is racist.
How do you define systemic racism and how do you think it applies to this case?
-
How do you define systemic racism and how do you think it applies to this case?
No matter how you or I define it, systemic racism is still racism and/or racist. If you seek an absolute definition for the phrase 'systemic racism', you will discover the it is not easily defined and is in fact open to a variety of interpretations or definitions.
definition of racism:
Noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
he belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another.

Why did the defense attorney allow this juror through in the first place?
Article explains it.
Issue is he may have lied during questioning.

That's true.
It was definitely negatively impacted by publicity.
I don't think he can have a fair trial at this point.

DOJ Charges Four Ex-Cops With Violating George Floyd’s Civil Rights During Fatal Arrest
KEY BACKGROUND
The indictment alleges Chauvin violated Floyd’s constitutional right to be protected against “unreasonable force by a police officer,” and says Tao and Keung “willfully failed to intervene to stop Chauvin’s use of unreasonable force.” All four officers are charged with denying Floyd’s right to access medical care when he was “lying on the ground” and therefore “deprived” Floyd of “liberty without due process of law.” Chauvin was found guilty of second-and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in April. Chauvin is set to face sentencing on June 25 and faces a maximum of 75 years in prison. Keung, Lane and Thao have pleaded not guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter.

At least one person was injured in a shooting that occurred near the George Floyd memorial site in Minneapolis on the same day as the anniversary of his death, authorities said Tuesday.
The victim was taken to Abbot Northwestern Hospital before being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for injuries that were not life threatening, Minneapolis police said.
The shooting occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the 3800 block of Elliot Avenue, Minneapolis Police said in a statement.
The suspected shooter was last seen driving away from the scene, according to police. No other details, including a motive for the shooting or the identity of the victim, were immediately available.
On Tuesday last year, Floyd was killed by then-Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin after he pinned his neck to the pavement with his knee for 9 1/2 minutes during an arrest. Chauvin was convicted of murder in April.
The intersection where Floyd died has become on ongoing memorial known as George Floyd Square.

One more example of how Floyd's death didn't change anything except for the increased pandering by the Libby's.

You need to go look in a mirror, Dorian.
I did. That's why I'm still posting on Getbig. 76 isn't pretty or handsome, it is just old. I'm afraid if I leave the house I'll scare someone. However, looking in the mirror is nothing as bad as looking at my portrait in the attic. ;D

I find it interesting that the media has completely ignored the fact that you can see a black person firing shots from the entrance to the store. I'm sure he's returning fire but he still a suspect. But of course the media is stating there are no suspects.
I guess since he's back and it doesn't fit the narrative it can be ignored.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is to watch the whole video and watch the cop deal with this loser for 22 min while the drugged up criminal was constantly babbling and refusing to obey simple instructions. There is no way this was a murder. The most he should have gotten was manslaughter. The way the media is treating Floyd as a hero is sickening.
