Title: Economy bailout bill is complete - mccain never showed up to help.
Post by: 240 is Back on September 25, 2008, 09:38:45 AM
He just landed in DC 5 mintues ago...

The expectation is that a historic deal is being made right now, inside the gilded Foreign Relations hearing room below the Senate chamber.

A larger than usual contingent of 75 reporters, eight TV cameras, a dozen print photographers are crammed into a stuffy hallway waiting for Chairmen Dodd and Frank to emerge, along with their Republican counterparts, to announce the framework of a deal.

According to Hill aides, the language is all but written, with concessions being made on both sides. Democrats are likely to lose their push to include bankruptcy provisions, while Republicans have relented on CEO pay. The bill may also only allow the $700 billion to be spent in large chunks rather than all at once.

The markets have already factored in a deal: the Dow is up 200.

The top congressional principles have essentially done the heavy lifting this morning, and the White House meeting later today has already been downplayed by Chuck Schumer as "photo op."

If things go according to plan, Bush will have this bill on his desk by Saturday night.

Right?

Right?

He'll enter the debate, but blame a poor performance on "i wasn't able to prepare, as I was focusing on the economic crisis".

however, the facts are this... he doing rallies - and still running commercials - this morning.

Who Harry Reid.....Funny all Dems who have a stake in seeing mister wonderful win...nice try 240.

I thought we were trying to rescue the economy, not the McCain campaign,” said Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Service Committee and a key negotiator on the $700 billion bailout package.

“This notion of rushing to Washington and grandstanding - it’s silly, it’s impulsive, it’s erratic,” said Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry.

“With all due respect to my friend John McCain, we’re doing just fine,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Wednesday.

The McCain campaign responded to Reid on Wednesday night by saying the Nevada Democrat had earlier suggested the candidates return to Washington to help hash out the details.

“Unfortunately, Senator Reid is putting partisan politics ahead of the business of the American people. But there should be no mistake: 24 hours ago Reid and his Democratic colleagues on the Hill couldn’t have been more desperate for Senator McCain’s help in resolving this crisis. Now they’ve got it,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said in a statement.

They announced the deal was done, roughly the same time his plane landed in DC to help them.

day late, dollar short.

C'mon, bro.  Who's saying what?  Is it Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid speaking.  It'd be one thing if we heard Lindsey Graham or Elizabeth Dole say "McCain didn't have any input at all".  Don't you think we have to dig a little deeper than what you're hearing on television?

okay.  let's ask the repubs on the committee what invovlement mccain had.

They haven't said any so far.  You'd think if he contributed ANY, they'd be shouting it from the rooftops.

instead, they're very quiet on mccain, and dems are saying he wasn't involved.

And what did Obama do?

nothing.  But then again, he didn't cancel a deabte and claim to be heading to DC to save the day.  He said it was possible to consult with the leader of your party, and also do a debate.

The dems are callinf ot finished.
The republicans don't. It won't pass congress
funny.

But 240 only reports the democrats news just like cnn.

http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/25/news/economy/deal_reached/index.htm?postversion=2008092513
"We've reached a fundamental agreement on a set of principles, one, for taxpayers, which is tremendously important," Dodd said. "We're very confident we can act expeditiously."

At least one prominent Republican says matters still aren't settled.

"House Republicans have not agreed to any plan at this point," said John Boehner, R-Ohio, minority leader.

I dint remember McCain saying he was gonna save the day. Jus try to help.

With that said, I agree this was a bad move to try to cancel the debate. The reason is not because he is afraid which is jus plain dumb to even give real thought to. But the economy has hurt him so he is trying to be seen as taking the economy more serious then the election. In the end it will hurt him and was a bad move.

He wants the debate to replace the Vp debate, which pushes palin's debate off the calendar.  There is no reschedule date.

Do you think he doesn't want Palin to do a debate, so postponing his foreign policy debate is a good move for that?

That could be possible.

But I dont think it is.

In all honesty if I was Obama, I would be terrorfied of Biden debating a 1st grader about mac n cheese.

politics as usual.
What kind of "Change" with politics as usual with the Obama campaign?  The closer we get to the election, the more Obama looks like any other politician.  I'm not saying you're an Obama fan.  I'm just putting the thought out there because Obama hasn't showed any true change yet.
