There was no legitimate reason to deny this story.  Many at Twitter even said so. Twitter even regulated DMs which is only used for extreme cases like child porn.  They are absolutely 100% guilty, and their new CEO is admitting this, because it's so fucking bad, he considers it a threat to democracy.

But we're in a weird spot that I don't know the solution to.  Social platforms have grown immense, so that the actions of private companies can have huge influence.  I have said for years here that manipulated content under the guise of a perceived unbiased algorithm is dangerous.

No, but big tech went through great length to prevent the reporting on what has turned out to be a legitimate story, and there have been polls shown that those who voted for Biden would not have, to a magnitude that would have changed the outcome of the election.

Platforms of this size have immense power, and if they want certain protections, they cannot make decisions based on their own political preferences.  If they don't want those protections, fine.
