I didn't know that Branch Warren was in an Austin Powers movie? I bet he placed second.

Take care of that blood pressure. It could lead to bad kidneys, stroke or a heart attack.

How high does bp have to be before kidney damage?

Heart is in great shape.  I have stopped eating eggs every day and only eat one or or two on Sunday.  I also take high blood pressure medication even though it was fine without it since my family has a history (black) of it along with CQ10 and fish oil.   I also stop using pre workout drinks as they have too much caff in it.    Overall, I'm doing as best as I can but life is never a garrantee.
Why would you take high blood pressure medication if you didn't need it? ???

Pretty sure the "eggs are bad" narrative has been debunked.

Animal fats, etc are fine, as long as they aren't combined with processed foods, sugar, and shitty vegetable oils.

Blood pressure meds are prescribed by doctors. Most doctors don't prescribe meds someone doesn't need. Do you take a beta-blocker, diuretic, (ACE) inhibitor, ARBs, CCBs or something else. There are a host of different meds for high blood pressure each with its own set of side effects.

Don’t insist that your doctor prescribe certain drugs. There can be serious side effects if you take a drug that isn’t right for you. Always discuss any medication choices with your doctor and work together to control your blood pressure.

No kidding.  Why would he choose to take blood pressure medication if his blood pressure was normal?  That's like deciding to have chemo and radiation even though you don't have cancer. ???

Vince, if you think your blood pressure is borderline or an issue, buy a cuff/unit off Amazon and monitor it. (Omron or whatever).
Also 5 mg of Cialis a day works great (with other benefits) and also Carditone works great.

My doctor advised me to take it as a preventive measure.  While it was normal, it was creeping up yearly and because of my family history , it was a matter of time.  Remember that you need a prescription so I cant just decide on my own to get blood pressure medicine.  It's a very low dose.

Depends. Ideally it's 120/80 or lower. Here in Europe they are fine with say 135/85 but it's not ideal, in the US it's stage 1 hypertension if I'm not mistaken.
And if you're a juice or just "heavy" it might be smart to keep BP at 120/80 which is hard for many or most.
Some of the meds have other potentially beneficial metabolic effects, like an ARB like Telmisartan.
I know US HRT clinics prescribe daily low dose tadalafil for BP lowering as well as the sexual effects.
I wish I had been on some of these drugs for the past 20 years, I now have LVH like many or most juicers.

https://www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2015/3/best-drug-to-treat-hypertension

Quote
Conventional doctors diagnose hypertension when a patient’s readings exceed 140/90. The scientific literature, however, indicates that the ideal range should be around 115/75.3 When blood pressure exceeds 115/75, there is an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, which are the leading causes of disability and death in modern societies.4

Quote
For those with blood pressure readings significantly over 115/75, I have some great news. In 2014, the FDA approved a generic version of an antihypertensive drug that lowers blood pressure more consistently than other classes of medications and has ancillary longevity benefits.

The side benefits of this drug include improved insulin sensitivity, enhanced mitochondrial activity, and better endothelial function.5-12 Preclinical research indicates that it may also help control body weight.6,13,14

So normal might not be optimal. Many bodybuilders are on self-prescribed Telmisartan. Stupid or smart?

Still, if your blood pressure is normal there is no reason to be on meds unless you enjoy paying for your doctor's vacations.

Yes but how many have optimal BP?
From the article:

Quote
In the United States, 1 out of every 3 adults has high blood pressure.1

Only 45% have it controlled. To make matters worse, this 45% statistic is based on higher-than-optimal blood pressure ranges, meaning most adults today endure chronic hypertensive damage to their tissues.2

I don't know what Vince's BP was but I would guess it was "normal" but probably over 130/80. I don't know when the new guidelines came into effect in the US but normal is now 120/80. Here in Sweden 130/80-something is still considered normal. I was tested at 135/80 a couple of weeks ago and was told it was "good". On a follow up visit I took a low dose Viagra beforehand and was at 117/78. I'm looking to source a cheap Cialis and do 5 or 10mg a day to be proactive.

The Telmisartan is interesting, tons of juicers have been on it now for a few years. Maybe it will prevent heart and kidney issues in bodybuilders, maybe not.

As an aside, we had a thread here on Fouad Abiad and his kidney issues and this dude said Fouad needs to get off everything and keep taking ccertain kidney protecting drugs. Said Fouad will be completely shut down soon unless he does a Tom Prince and gets off everything. Fouad had a fit.

I have a friend who sits at like 140/90 and his doc thinks nothing of it. He has also been on daily NSAIDs for like 15 years but he's not worried.

It's said that high BP is a silent killer but I think I can feel if my BP is relatively high or low at the moment

Did you know that researchers have found that there may be a gene that makes African-Americans much more salt sensitive. In people who have this gene, as little as one extra gram (half a teaspoon) of salt could raise blood pressure as much as 5 mm Hg.

Vince being 100lbs overweight doesn't help either.
