i'm dating a 28 year old chinese girl who says that she loves "scary" movies. she's only been in north america for 4 years and so she hasn't actually seen too many horror flicks. any suggestions of all-time great horror movies that might scare the living daylights out of her?
-
The new "Dawn of the Dead"
-
Night of the Living Dead (the original)
Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th
Fallen (not a horror flick, but spooky)
-
http://imdb.com/chart/horror
By today's standards it is not at all scary, but as art, it is by far the best: Psycho.
-
The new version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre from a few years ago was disturbing. After seeing that you can skip the foreplay. ;)
-
I agree show her some old horror movies. Or the house of 1000 corpses is good too. some old halloween movies or Friday The 13th Hellraiser is good or Puppet Master
-
Last house on the left or I spit on your grave. But since she is Asian try the Grudge. It's not only set in Japan(I think), but its a remake of an asian film. Although it's not that good really.
-
The Original Omen I heard is the scariest/best. Never seen it for myself though.
-
Jeepers Creepers! The first one, not the second.
-
Evil dead was cool
funny
-
An American Werewolf In London
The Descent
The exorcist
Poltergeist
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Hellraiser
Bram Stoker's Dracula

Great classic film. I was flicking channels the other night and stumbled across the remake they did... sacrilege I tells ya, sacrilege
-
Evil Dead 1 and 2 as mentioned.
"Zombie" by Lucio Fulci
"Seven" was freaky, although not strictly a horror movie
"Wrong Turn" was excellent
House of 1000 corpses was good too
Classics: frankenstein
Son of Frankenstein
Dracula
Frankenstein meets the wolfman
there are so many good ones
(major horror fan here)

I'm a horror-buff myself. Tell her to see The Shining, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and Cannibal Holocaust.

henry: portrait of a serial killer was a great movie, but i don't know if it's part of the horror genre. more like docudrama.

Um....docuhorror, perhaps? :D I just met the main star of the movie, Mike Rooker, at a film convention this past June. Nice guy.
-
Another vote for The Shining.
The Others was a good classic ghost story too.
-
Anything that has lots of blood, a lesbien and or a shower scene, tits, cheerleaders, tripping over and stuff, chainsaws, going into dark rooms to "check things out"
Easy pleased :D
-
The Omen (1977 original) is really good too.
-
candyman . . . virginia madsen's in it and she's hawt.
-
Hellraiser 1@2
Jeepers Creepers
Night of the Living Dead
-
The Shining

Never seen the exorsist........no reason other than just never been around to see it, and never thought of renting it. I've seen exorsist 2, (shitty movie) and seen nearly every other horror movie ever made but i've never seen exorsist.

The Exorcist is very upsetting to some; others including those who aren't Christian don't have the same reaction.
-

Yup. The 2004 version is awesome! Show her that one.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I now have a good list of horror flicks to show her. BTW we watched "Hostel" (by Quentin Tarantino) last night. Check this one out if you like gore!

A growing body count, people missing limbs, post traumatic stress, and families forever shattered? No doubt about it: America’s misadventure in Iraq. Horror beyond anything you've ever seen.
Doom disapproves.

Exorcist is pretty scary. I watched Friday the 13th (original) when I was 11...had to go sleep in my parents' room.
What was that one that had the little silver ball that spun around and had the evil guy in it? (not much info, but maybe one remembers)
Did anyone here ever watch the Saturday afternoon horror flicks hosted by "Elvira?"
-
