Title: John Cena makes the cover of FLEX
Post by: MCWAY on October 07, 2006, 05:59:44 PM
For the fourth consecutive year, FLEX has featured a muscular WWE superstar on its cover.

2003 - Triple H
2004 - Brock Lesnar
2005 - Dave Batista

And, now, the WWE champion himself is on the front page. I'm sure Shawn Ray will be complaining about this one.

Not that there's anything wrong with that!!

 ;D

it's a lame issue as well looked through it last night at the grocery store, Flex was a lot better 15 years ago.

question is how much did WWE pay flex for the cover......

or was it the other way around?

FLEX is all about the mighty dollar and they know this formula well.  One thing is for sure, they will forever outsell every other bodybuilding magazine.  Do I agree with this tactic?  No.  Does it work to make money?  Absolutely.

What magazine AIN'T about the mighty dollar? Those who aren't tend not to stay in business!!!

At least the T&A wars between MuscleMag and MD are over.....(for now).

I don't see any problem with Triple H and John Cena being on the cover.  They are known all over the world and they were NPC bodybuilders who won some regional titles.

Bodybuilding needs all the outside support it can get and pro-wrestlers are great for bringing in people to the sport.  Don't forget that I've problably brought a lot of people to the MM boards as well as Getbig.  Why do you think they get Triple H to host the Olympia for???  He not only brings in a crowd of people but he also knows how to work the crowd.

I just wish more mags for follow suit.  There's a lot of pro-wrestlers that were bodybuilders

I think an MD cover with you Goodrum would likely be the highest selling MD ever.  Sheer curiousity would have many people buying.

If I'm not mistaken, Batista was also an NPC bodybuilder. I recall someone saying that he once competed at the Southern States show.

So, the only one of the guys I mentioned with no NPC roots, if you will, would be Brock Lesnar.

Plus, it appears that all those guys were WWE/World Heavyweight Champion, when they made the cover of FLEX.

You don't suppose MuscleTech is looking to get its mitts on the "Doctor of Thuganomics"? Lesnar and (briefly) Batista were once pushing CELL-TECH and NITRO-TECH.

FLex isn't stupid. Just look at the mob of people behind Cena. As fake as the WWE is. Vinny Mac know how to make money and people flock to it like flies on shit. Go to any book signing, guest appearance of one of the WWE superstars. Crowds who wait in line for hours. People would watch for hours and hours in line to see Stone Cold, the Rock, Hogan, etc. No suprise Cena had a big crowd. 99% of the people behind him were there for him not ABB.

BAUtista actually.

If I'm not mistaken, Batista has legally changed the spelling of his last name; hence, there's no more "U".

John Cena drug free - somehow I doubt it - he's easily on the gear and judging by the size of that jaw, possibly a bit of the old GH as well purely for the cuts. He's got tiny calves in that picture with Lee - makes me think that his genetics aren't up to much hence the need to use drugs to get him up to scratch.

Cena is listed as 6'1". Standing next to Priest (who I believe is either 5'3" or 5'4"), that looks about right.
