Title: ambulance at my gym today
Post by: migizi on October 11, 2006, 09:21:42 PM
as I was walking to the gym this afternoon I noticed firetrucks, and an ambulance outside on the street....I stopped, looked and it was  a regular who usually grunts, snorts, and yells and minimal weight. being taken out of the joint on a gurney,,,he saw me looking his way and you could tell he was embarrassed..he was bandaged on his head...so when I went in there, I asked what happened. "he didn't have a spotter and about 185 crashed on his head....he's gonna need 40-60 stiches at least"  I said "that's what smith machines are for, if you don't have a spotter"  he said that a while ago, the same guy ripped all the skin off his hand racking a barbell.

Also he'll probably need a website to accept donations and get some bad pub going for this gym.

I've seen a bar fall on someone.

He had his friend spotting him but the guy was busy watching the tv.

That sounds like a joke but its 100% true.

Ouch. The worst one I saw was a guy who dropped a forty-five on his toes. The white high top went red immediately like a Hollywood prop. Funny thing was he stood there, totally still, for about 5 seconds before he started screaming bloody murder and collapsing. Shock, maybe. To this day, watching tools walk around the gym in flip-flops gives me the heebie-jeebies.  :-X

IN DC firetrucks are first responders...yeah when I got in they were cleaning up the pile of blood on the bench...I talked to a worker this morning and he said the guy ducked but it grazed his scalp skin...he said it looked like the guy was scalped or had a bloody mohawk...

Some people stay healthier when they don't train.

Wow, those sound like nothing compared to what happened a few years back at my gym. There was this dude at the gym who had a huge upper body and stick legs. I had never seen him train legs before.
So I'm working out and I see him come strolling into the gym and he sees this girl he knows doing hack squats. He walks up to her and starts to talk to her in between sets. Now this girl was strong ! She was a bodybuilder type chick. Really thick. She was Hack squatting 4 plates a side, with two spotters helping her. So that's allot of weight for any girl to be doing, so that's what drew my attention over to him talking to her. She does her final set and he jumps on with no warm up
As he just walked in. Before he does his first set with no warm up, he adds 1 hundred pound plate and a 45 to each side. Now you can't add any more weight to this machine. I'm watching this because I knew this guy could not hack 2 plates a side even if he warmed up. The stage is set now. I swear this is what happened next. He un hooks the weight, the spotters are standing away from the machine , and as soon as he starts to descend. One leg just snaps !!!!! He gets crushed underneath all the weight.... 4 people including me rush over and pull some of the plates and lift the sled up. He falls out limp! then starts shaking. He got real pale and looked like he was going to pass out. The manager at the front desk runs into the room. They prop his head up and call 911. He's now shaking on the ground uncontrollably. The paramedics get there, put him on a stretcher and wheel him out.
Now just when you think the story's over and I would not be seeing this tool for awhile. The very next day this guy is in the gym with a full brace and cast on his leg. Get this...... Doing tricep pushdowns !!

wow.  I see a lot of guys at my gym with big upper bodies and stick legs.  they apparantly never go near any of the leg equiptment and if they ever did, they'd risk an injury trying to do anything heavy

I wasn't there to witness it I just remember seeing the blood stain on the floor in piles and it sucked because that shit is hard to clean up but it appears this member of my gym was doing dumbbell pullovers. He was using a 100lb dumbbell and at the top of the rep I was told he simply 'let go' or the dumbbell just slipped out of his hands and came down about a foot drop right dead center of his face. He only broke 3 of his teeth out and got a bloody nose but otherwise...he he was hurt and not injured.

I remember last year, around early january  (resolutioners)  and this guy I had never seen in there before, is doing a deadlift with 3 or 4 plates on a side...I was a good 25-30 ft away,,,and I swear to God I heard what sounded like breaking a bunch of celery,,,the guy doing deadlift popped his back...and he's yelling and moaning on the floor on his side.  Again asked the guy behind the desk later that night what happened,,,,he told me he herniated 3 disks and reinjured a fractured vertabrae...it was the sickest sound I have ever heard.

when I was in HS in San Antonio a Jr ROTC kid was working out alone at home and he died from the bar choking him to death--think it might of been less than 135lbs

IN DC firetrucks are first responders...

Yeah... I've never understood that.  I mean, I know the paramedics work for the FD, but why waste the gas rolling a fire truck to a call that's just EMS, no fire?

Would make sense if it was a car accident...other than that....I agree with you.  A complete waste of fuel & money spent

no the reason the truck gets there is because dispatch is stupid, when some 1 calls 911 they ask the emergency and its up 2 dispatch to send out the appropriate people, but there idiots and send out a truck , an engine, and an ambulance to shit like that

That sounds horrible, but it is still child's play in comparison to Mr. Intenseone's 110lb dumbell-dick sandwich .
