That can include:
gym memberships
dvd's
extra food
supps
'supps'
magazines/books
clothes
going to shows/federation memberships etc.
web broadcasts/site memberships
anything vaguely related that you wouldnt spend if you wernt a fan of bodybuilding or a bodybuilder/aspiring bodybuilder.
Personally I estimate about 6k for a non competing year, a competing year add another 3k minimum. And thats very conservative.
For every 100 fans/amature BB's/getbiggers like me thats almost a million clams a year injected directly and indirectly into the industry.
I find that interesting anyway
-
since i dont take supplements i spend about 200 per week on food.

it's totally unnecessary to spend that much on bb'ing, i'd rather spend the money on some good electronic goods, DVD's, clothes, baseball cards, sporting event tickets, etc., bodybuilding is a dumb thing to waste money on.

is this a joke thread?

spending 6 grand a year on bb'ing has to be a joke.
-
About $2000 a year on food. I work at a supplement store so.... I save big on supps otherwise about $6000/yr oh and another $1000/yr on other synthetic goodies
-
about 200 week for food...which is essential anyways
80 year for gym membership
i got new straps for 10 bucks...so that should last me for a good 5 years...lol
and thats about it
-

just checking now...
6k = about $115 per week. Thats a pretty cheap hobbie really. I guess I have more disposable income than you guys

LOL, same thing I was thinking :D
I like to go to 2/3 shows a year, and due to my location just getting there costs a bit to start. I probably hit the $6 gr mark on travel /shows alone. That is pretty much my only big expenditure though. I don't pay gym fees and my largest competition expenses are covered, including travel/hotel/suits so I am cool there.
Pretty cheap hobby though, comparatively to others. Boating, which is big here, will easily be triple that, and that is only for the bare bones basics.

it isn't necessarily a "disposable income" question, it doesn't make any sense to waste money no matter how much you have, IMO supplements, drugs, tanning, accesories, mags are a waste of money.
-
Would you believe me if I said "over fifty thousand" without a smile on my face?
-
Millions
-
what do you mean by "extra food"?
all food counted + supplements ~500$/ month
then gym membership 30$/ month
gym clothes dont know really maybe 400$/ year
go to a show or two every year so on average about 40$ for that
= about 140$/week
-
i don't think he meant just the normal food you eat in a week, i think he means all the extra stuff, supps, drugs, tanning, mags, gym membership, clothes, etc., it's easy to spend 6 grand if you include food in that total.
-
you mean.....we're supposed to be spending money for bodybuilding?
I also see no one has mentioned how much gay for pay they spend on......
TA
;D
-
what do you mean by "extra food"?
Regular folk dont eat 300+ grams protein per day. We generally buy more steak chicken fish and shit than the average shopper
I forgot about tanning btw...thanks sarc...7k
-
ok then its just 45$/week or 2300$/year .
dont use any drugs exept painkillers

80 PER YEAR????????????????????????????????????
FFS, I pay 1600.00 per year for my wife and I, in Westchester NY(15 mins. from NYC) .
Second richest (next to Beverly Hills) county in the U.S.
Special Ed pays the same and Croatch used to pay that too, but he moved to Vegas.
Christ Almighty you guys would be in shock if we talked about living expenses.
I should move.

Our cost of living is amongst the highest in the world [aarggh!]
Gym memberships start at about $120 p/month for a kinda crappy place, and go up. There are only 8, so the better ones have waiting lists because of these ghey fire laws about maximum occupancy......like everyone will come to the gym at the same time ::)

I change gyms every year which leads to paying about $800-900 a year since i dont have a 'renewal rate' to take advantage of. I actually have free membership at 2 clubs but they 'teh suck'
Does your gym have a waiting list?
-
Does your gym have a waiting list?
Yes, to my great irritation. The limits are too low, it is not like my gym is overcrowded >:(
Why the annual gym change? New scenery for motivation type of thing?

That would suck...do any other industries there have a similar protocol, is that new?
I change gyms because I dislike routine, the same faces, same music, same equipment, people start to bug you more the longer you train somewhere. I'll train at a gym appropriate to what my goals for the following year are. I enjoy looking for a new club, besides there are always new ones openning up and its a great way to keep up to date on what other athletes are doing. After 18 years of going to gyms all around the world Im getting pretty good at choosing good ones.

spending 6 grand a year on bb'ing has to be a joke.
I guess it depends on how much you make. But in general it is pretty useless. I've come to the conclusion that being huge and jacked isn't even worth my time anymore. Especially when staying natural. I can eat and eat and train and train and maybe get to 220 at 5'10" with single digit bodyfat (this is after 14 years of training). But why bother? You stop for a few months and you're back where you started. like you said I'd rather spend my money on other shit and be 200 and ripped instead of 220. Althought I get the bug once in a while as I get older I just have other shit to do.
-
Probably $100 a week on food, maybe $30 on creatine every few months. Also energy drinks at the gym, that's probably the highest cost.

it will be better for my health if I don't think about all that money :(
I used to spend a lot more than I do now on supplements. Now at my present plumpness I just can't see spending all that much money on that when I end up eating donuts.
The $$$ issue is the big problem I have with a lot of extensive drug use as HGH and the effective stuff is pretty expensive. Makes more sense to me to eat at a nice resturant or go on a cruise with my wife and get pampered.

I only ordered those as a favor for Ron... he was too embarrassed to order them himself. He paid me the $105 back!
-
thank heavens real bodybuilders can buy a good reliable fanny pack without paying an arm and a leg.
-
I estimate $7000.
-
500 Euro on membership, 200 Euro on supplements, food I don't know about the extra amount of money I spend on that.
-
mainly i spend extra on food and gym memberships..no way any pro dvd is worth buying..fuckin 40 bucks are too damn much.i only buy selective magazines such as flex mag specials...

hahahahaha, i'm talking about classic, rare cards from the 50's and 60's, i love going to a sports memorabilia store and checking out their stock, it's a lot of fun, i'm not embarassed by it.
-
$80 000 for everything make back about $200 000 not to bad of a hobbie ;)
-
Aint nothing wrong with that, sarcasm...TheBlockHead is a fan of comic book stores even though I don't collect comic books. Maybe I like the way it smells in those stores and I like to 'people' watch' the TOOLS who frequent them(Monster self-owning!).
I also aint ashamed to admit I buy jeans and workout clothes at thrift stores. Hell ya! Aint no shame to a BlockHeads game!
As far as what I spend to BB? Well...supps I pretty much get for FREE or at COST. Gear? Hahaha...well...I don't have to pay for that and I only use precontest and 'other people' pay for that so that's out of the way. I co-own a gym so there's my membership fee/dues and outside of my normal job I have two PT clients I train for cash so that money handles my groceries pretty much so I guess not that much.
If you are smart like TheBlockHead and have the right connects and contacts and know how to hustle/flow...bodybuilding should'nt cost a thing...bodybuilding and this industry should be paying YOU! BOOYA!!!!!

My gym dues and not a penny more.

Hey meatball....my sis, who works in corporate telecom, is the thrift store queen. I went to this one in Aurora, CO with her but I dont shop...just keep her a$$ company. Anway....there is the chick that hits the spot weekly driving a f##kin $80K Range Rover. Cut the clothing bill to cover the $1000 note.
-
I'm a cranky muthafcuker when I dont have my supplements
-
You see what I'm sayin, boy! Exactly...I'm ALL about thrift store. That's what I stand for.
Shit I'll even go to thrift stores and buy thing for other people wrap it up and give them away as presents...like I said, aint no shame to this BlockHeads game...youknowwhatImsayi n?

I'm not suprised...gay men usually spend lots of money on high fashion items.
I think it was a day or two ago jaejonna and TA were discussing '7Jeans' and 'True Religion' jeans and clothing. Like a couple of little bitches!!!!
Both of them wonder why they can't get a bitch because if you spend that much money on fkn drawers...it's ONE of TWO things.
1). You're as GAY as Clay Aiken doing a rendition of Whitney Houston's 'Queen of the Night'.
2). All attempts of landing a bitch failed and now it's time to up the stakes by going with the expensive clothing route.
He's a sucker. Both of them are but chinamen can't get anything outside their race besides their own...and when you look like a hybrid between a rat and human like TA...you MUST own a pair of 'True Religion' I guess...
-

holly shit no way in hell I will ever spend more than 100 $ for a pair of jeans, and that's expensive for me !
thing is, I am so sexy I could wear wall-mart clothes and still get more chicks than all of you ;D

I have Lots of old cards from the 40's, 50's and 60's thanks to my dad and grandad. I even have some old cards from the 30's from tobacco tins. I have literally at least 10,000 cards form the 70's, 80's and 90's. My 16 year old owns them now. When I was a kid every cent I had went to buying baseball, hockey, basketball and football cards. I can remember many hours I spent sorting them out.

Hehehe. ;D

Being in the business, I have a first hand look at what people spend. We have the weekly 1 box MRP'S and 1 tub of protein and we also have the kind who will use anything new that comes down the pike. I have seen people spend 300 a week ( love em) to the guy I see once in a blue moon for a bottle of multi's. I personally use about 10 different sups, but when you take into consideration that an MRP for less than 2 bucks = a meal which would cost at least 6 bucks to get all the nutrients that you get from a drink is a bargin. If I was spending it would be crazy, but I get samples to evaluate and they come free. I have a workout studio in my store so no gym membership either. Plus it's better to give someone first hand info on a new sup rather than what the literature says about it. I owe that to My customers.
-

so you give someone a gakic sample and then let em loose in the studio?
ive heard that stuff can increase strength immediatly by 10.5%

Bottom line is...if you're smart and savvy and a New Jack Hustler like TheBlockHead is...you shouldn't be paying much at all to pursue this lifestyle.
Only suckers pay $$$ for lots of supps and gear. If you have the body and look and knowledge then people should be seeking you out and willing to PAY you to make them look like you or make them look better and when they do...then there is your grocery bills and gym membership fee and supps if need be.
I also find 'naturals' spend waaaaaay more than a non-natural to pursue this. There are reasons why that is but that's another story.

Best part of all this, Special'BaddaBoomBaddaBing!'Ed is that all of these expenses...can be knocked out with one single gay 4 pay session.
As some of these scoundrel scavengers on here know...
-
And the income most earn from that "investment" - $00.00
AHHAAHHAAHAH!!! Exactly!! Yes, $25K on all that crap so he could put on a skin-tight, sparkle/glitter shirt, hit the clubs and have 3 women give him quick glances and nothing more.
-
i wouldn't even spend 50 bucks on jeans.
Exactly, what fvckin for? All these metros will tell you, "clothes make the man." They spend $200 on a shirt, where that shirt and look like a man in a $200 shirt I buy a $20 shirt, wear it and make it look like a million bucks.
