Geeze Louise. Just goes to show you that greed often trumps common sense. I hate paying taxes, but when you're pulling in $8 to $15 million per film, pay your dang taxes and enjoy the rest of your seven-figure income. How hard can that be???

Snipes is also charged with six counts of failure to file income tax returns since 1999. A federal judge issued an arrest warrant for Snipes, but federal officials hope the publicity surrounding the case because of Snipes' celebrity will spur the actor-producer to surrender voluntarily. Neither Snipes nor his former attorneys returned phone calls and e-mail requests seeking comment Tuesday. A relative in South Carolina would not comment.
The indictment, handed up by a federal grand jury last week in Jacksonville, Fla., says Snipes sent bogus checks worth $14 million to the IRS for his estimated tax liabilities in recent years.
Snipes, 44, also attempted to receive, but did not get, refunds worth more than $11 million from taxes he already had paid in 1996 and 1997, according to the indictment.

conservative economic policies have torn our country apart....just look at some of the stats.
before reagan became president there was still reasonable disparity between the rich and poor....after reagan by the early 90s the richest 5% controlled over 70% of our national wealth....by the time clinton took office that percentage was even higher....the middle class which had been very strong before reagan, fell close to the poverty line....and the homeless population went through the roof....thank you trickle down economics.
when the wealth is controlled by the richest of the rich they dont put it back into the economy...they stash it away in off shore tax heavens...when tax breaks are given to the middle class and poor they buy homes, cars, open small business.,ect.
look at economic stats over the last 100 years and it will show that everytime we had a republican president our economy has been in shambles.
the only way to stop the republican demolition of our economy is to support whoever is on the democratic ticket.

The economy did very well under Clinton, but what happened to the economy when Carter was president?
Also, Democrats killed Hawaii. They ran the state for 50 years and we wound up being one of the most overtaxed places in the country, with high unemployment, and an awful business climate. Since we elected a Republican governor four years ago, the discussion has changed from raising taxes at every opportunity to lowering them, we have probably the lowest unemployment rate in the country, and we've made great strides towards improving how business is done here. More importantly, a 700 million budget deficit was turned into a 700 million surplus in four years.
But I was initially responding to your "fair share of taxes" comment. The "rich" already pay most of the taxes in this country already. What many liberals want is a reduction of taxes for people who pay the least amount to begin with, instead of an across the board cut (which I favor). We are ALL overtaxed. Except for low income people, who often don't pay any taxes when rebates and the Earned Income Tax Credit is factored in.
I don't believe in punishing success.

Working poor suffer under Bush tax cuts
Cash crunch: loss of services outweighs tax gains for millions
DETROIT — The Bush administration and Congress have scaled back programs that aid the poor to help pay for $600 billion in tax breaks that went primarily to those who earn more than $288,800 a year.
To offset the loss of the tax revenue, the administration has amassed record federal deficits and trimmed social spending.
The affected programs — job training, housing, higher education and an array of social services — provide safety nets for the poor. Many programs are critical elements in welfare-to-work initiatives and were already badly underfunded.
A six-month Detroit News investigation showed that as a result of the withering government assistance, working poor and destitute Americans are increasingly likely to be placed on waiting lists for help, receive reduced services, or be denied service entirely.
The News, after interviewing scores of people across the United States and examining thousands of pages of federal and state financial records, determined the loss of services cost many poor Americans more money than they saved from the tax cuts.
In many cases, the poorest lost services and got no tax cut at all.
The analysis of the three Bush tax cuts is based in part on estimates by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, using data from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
The poorest 20 percent of workers, who earn on average $16,600 annually, will get a tax break of $250 this year, which is less than 2 percent of their income. That amounts to about 68 cents a day.
By comparison, the richest 1 percent, with average incomes topping $1.1 million, will receive $78,460 in tax cuts this year. That is nearly 7 percent of their income.
For the poor, inequities of the Bush tax cuts are further exacerbated by the long-standing disparities in the Social Security tax, which has increased nine times since 1977.
Earnings are taxed for Social Security at a rate of 6.2 percent on income up to $87,900. But there is no Social Security tax on income above that amount. For America’s poorest workers — those who struggle to make ends meet — every dollar is subject to the Social Security tax.
The richest 10 percent, who make on average $288,800, will pay less than 2 percent of their income for Social Security.
In fact, while most workers pay into Social Security all year, millionaires — who pay less than half a percent — would be finished paying it by the first four weeks of the year.
For taxpayers who earn more than $87,900, it amounts to an estimated $85 billion break.
Meanwhile, the Bush tax breaks for the richest 10 percent this year alone will total $148 billion.
That is twice as much as the government will spend on job training, $6.2 billion; college Pell grants, $12 billion; public housing, $6.3 billion; low-income rental subsidies, $19 billion; child care, $4.8 billion; insurance for low-income children, $5.2 billion; low-income energy assistance, $1.8 billion; meals for shut-ins, $180 million; and welfare, $16.9 billion.
The reduction in government assistance that accompanied the tax cuts couldn’t come at a worse time.
The number of Americans living in poverty has risen 10 percent since 2000, after falling in the late 1990s. Nearly 36 million Americans — one in eight — now live in poverty and tens of millions more are considered working poor.
The economy has lost nearly a million jobs — 241,000 in Michigan alone — since it slid into recession in March 2001.
That has increased the demand for government programs from millions of Americans who are now more likely to know hunger, homelessness and chronic need.
America’s working poor — its secretaries, cooks, laborers, clerks and others — are finding it difficult to meet even basic needs.
For the poor, child care and housing can consume more than 80 percent of their income. And 45 million Americans, most of them low-income, have no health insurance.
Housing in many cities is so unaffordable that although 39 percent of the homeless work, they can’t pay for even a substandard apartment, according to a 2003 survey by the country’s mayors.
Compounding the problem, massive budget shortfalls have forced states to pare back their contributions to federal programs. At the same time, charitable contributions declined.
Those mired in poverty, hoping to wean themselves from public assistance, have received little help from Congress in their struggle to earn a living wage. Government is now offering job training to fewer people than in years past.
Nearly 6 percent of all U.S. workers earn minimum wage, $5.15 an hour.
Based on a 40-hour workweek, the annual minimum wage of $10,700 places a single parent of two well below the poverty level. Minimum wage earners got very little under the Bush tax cuts. Key social program cuts have left them with fewer places to turn for help.

And Bushs economy has grown the fastest in years because of his tax cuts, but the Democrats said point blank (Charles Rangel specifically) that if they won the house they would repeal ALL of Bushs tax cuts!

The economy has grown - but only for a select few. The rich have gotten richer, in other words. The DOW is at an alltime high, but poverty rate continues to rise, as does the number of Americans without health insurance.
The small handful of millionaire househods in the USA (.2 of one percent) will receive total tax cuts far larger than those received by the entire middle 20 percent of households.
What is more important - giving a nice pile of money to 1/500th of the total American households, or using that cash to secure social security/our broken healthcare system?
Short term, give the $ away! Long term, our children are fucked. Period. There's gonna be a collapse and it won't be pretty. Picture everyone in American finding out one morning that social security is being restructured and we're all getting a flat rate lol... gonna be some ticked off rich people.

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Actor Wesley Snipes, indicted by U.S. authorities for tax fraud this week, is filming a movie in the African country of Namibia which has no extradition treaty with Washington, officials said on Friday.
"It is confirmed. He is definitely here," Edwin Kanguatjivi, chief executive officer of the Namibia Film Commission, said by telephone. "He has been in Namibia since the end of August."
Snipes, the star of the "Blade" movie series, is the lead actor in a new movie entitled "Gallowwalker" filming in the Namibian desert near the town of Swakopmund -- the same coastal resort where Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had their first child in May.
Production officials reached at the film set on Friday declined to comment.
U.S. officials in Tampa, Florida, issued a warrant for Snipes' arrest on an indictment that alleges the 44-year-old actor illegally claimed tax refunds of almost $12 million.
Snipes, who has appeared in more than three dozen movies including "Jungle Fever," "White Men Can't Jump," "Rising Sun" and "U.S. Marshals," could face 16 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
The indictment alleges that Snipes failed to file federal income tax returns from 1999 through 2004 and conspired with two accomplices to file two amended returns for Snipes for 1996 and 1997, fraudulently claiming tax refunds of almost $12 million.
Namibia has no extradition treaty with the United States, a situation spotlighted last month when fugitive U.S. software millionaire Jacob "Kobi" Alexander was discovered to be living in the southwest African country.
U.S. officials said despite the lack of a formal treaty they were nevertheless preparing to ask Namibia for the extradition of Alexander, the former chief and founder of Comverse Technology Inc who is wanted in the United States on charges of manipulating stock options.

Wesley Snipes arrested in Orlando

ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- Wesley Snipes surrendered to authorities Friday on tax fraud charges, two months after he was indicted, said federal officials and a publicist for his new film.
Snipes flew on a private jet from Namibia, where he is filming "Gallow Walker," to an Orlando airport to turn himself in, said Ian Thompson, a spokesman for Sheer Films, which is producing the movie. U.S. Attorney's spokesman Steve Cole in Tampa confirmed the arrest.
After a morning appearance in federal court in Ocala, Snipes planned to return to Africa to finish the movie, Thompson said from his London office.
Snipes was charged in October with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 on income taxes already paid. The star of the "Blade" trilogy and other films was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004.
According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients. The firm, American Rights Litigators, would receive 20 percent of refunds from clients, according to the indictment.
The 44-year-old actor has said he is a scapegoat and was unfairly targeted by prosecutors. If convicted, he faces up to 16 years in prison.
"Gallow Walker," a cowboy picture, will be completed next week and released sometime next fall, Thompson said. Snipes' arrest wasn't expected to delay the film, he said.
