This is when I 1st saw a Mr O contest, and 1st got into bbing. And i will never forget how shocked i was to see a guy like Shawn Ray at 5'6 look as muscular as he did.. IMO this was his best condition, size, and overall shape he ever had..
-
He is 5'7 and 1/2.
with shoes on..

Was that in Dubai, India? ;D

No matter what people think of S. Ray personally, he was the epitome of a consumate pro, with a polished physique and presentation.
The kind of individual that had what it took to take the sport mainstream with his obvious gift of the gab and eloquence.
Not just a meathead thats self-absorbed and lacking any personality, or a God-thanking barely coherent monster.
Ray would have given us regular ESPN coverage. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I have to go with what you said if BBing was ever to go "main stream" (I really think it's pretty main stream in it's own way now as these bbers are know wold wide) it would be through Ray - as he could speak well and just looked the part of a true professional. He looked great in that clip but Yates had already taken it to the freaky mass monster way and along came king Coleman with his lights out back double-bi and two tons of over-muscled ass cheaks!! Ray must have loved his career though as he got in young and got out without injuring himself. I remeber him saying in a FLEX mag running up to the 02 or either 03 Olympia that he felt his legs were a slight bit outta balance with his upper body (on the big side) but from that clip I really didn't see it in 98 - he looked great 8)

Much like Gaspari his legs were predisposed to get huge, but he controlled the urge to become another Quadzilla(as did Gaspari), and instead had one of the most balanced(if not the most) physiques of his very long era. Better IMO, than Sarcev, on par with Paris and Labrada.
You're right, came in, and left young and fit.

His legs were one of his strong points. You could see it when he first got his pro card. If he wanted to, he could have taken the freaky route and made his legs a stand out bodypart, he could have been the black Tom Platz. Good thing he didn't

ROFL.....classic

No offence, but Ray was better in both '94 and '96.
Here's his '94 performance:

not impressed..he has looked "fuller" in other pics I have seen
*excuse the bad grammer but it conveys the message

Some of the best posing I've ever seen. FLAWLESS!
-
Shawn was a great bb'er.Classic physique. The only fault I could ever see w/him was that his upper body didn't match his lower body being that he had way too long legs for the length of his torso.Besides that a body I would want to try to achieve.
-
I just uploaded this clip to YouTube of Shawn Ray from the '92 Olympia. It has a lot of biographical info, even shows him winning the Cal and as a kid with a fro, but hardly shows his Olympia posing routine at all. Still a good video for fans of Shawn Ray.
Here's shawn as a kid taken from the video clip.

has this fucker ever trained naturally?

Nope. He's probably juiced up in that childhood football picture.

LOL! ;D

I love you guys! :-\
The Football pic was from my 7th Grade Flag Jr. High School team in 1978 :-*
Nice walk down memory lane, time for some Orange Juice, Peace! ;D

that is how a pro bb should look... size, shape, symmetry, proportion, v taper, small waist.

Shawn why not compete one more time? John Sherman's coming back, milos to. Why don't you step up to the plate and show them who the king of symmetry is?
-
That was the last of the badass classic physiques! Let the haters hate, Shawn shoulda been Mr.O with out a doubt! If these bloated ass pros today claim to have a 32-34" waist ::), Shawns must be about 22-23" in that Vid! ;D
For real...Shawn for the record what was your waist size at that time before you went "off-season" ;D? 28-29"?
-
Shawn has nothing to prove and everything to lose. Plus he is a grounded family man now, making money elsewhere in the industry. If I was Shawn I would just do some HRT and train for fun.
But I agree that Shawn should step up...to the hair club for men. ;D
jk Shawn, you know we love you. ;)
listen, shawn had his run..the cars have been repo'd, Haney's record is still intact.
He now gets his kicks from making the Colorado Pro check bounce
talking about he is pushing a "weekend warrior" campaign for vyotech. Give me break
is he even natural now?

Hillarious !!

Shawn's adamant about not coming out of retirement. :(
-
Shawn looked outstanding at all times as a pro. People can hate Shawn all day. But the facts are he had one of the greatest physiques of all time.
-
Its official boys, in case you missed the memo.
I retired and it's been 5 years and counting, nothing has changed there.
I am lookin towrd the future not back at the past.
That being said, I find happiness in promoting the sport, supporting the athletes and being a fan. ;D
Out,
S

Alright, alright ;D...like I always tell people...god put your eyes in the front of your head to look forward not in the back of your head to look backward! So what was your waist size at your last show? I know you had the smallest but be honest...
-
Shawn burned every his karmas of BBing. He had got ilumination in BBing.
So, he doesnt need to be on stage anymore.
-
i think in peoples minds (mine included ;D) shawn has 1 and maybe 2 olympias that should have been his. So being a peoples champ like that is enough and he dosent have to comeback to prove anything. Bow out gracefully. better than being forced out
-
In Shawns Trohpy case's mind...he is a Mr. Woulda,Coulda,Shoulda...5times Over!!!
-
In spite of my being huge shawns fan, i have never thought he could have been O.
He is perfect. But his physic is not spectacular like Haney,Dorian, and Ronnie.

Somebody photoshoped a football where the pocketbook was.

Polished? Looks like he has just polished off the tub of lard which he so much resembles.
-
How are you going to put an offseason picture up and try to pass it off as shawn at his peak. Dude Shawn might have been the most consistant bodybuilder in history as far as knowing which one was going to show up at a show. There are a lot of greats that lacked the consistancy shawn had.
-
hahahahahaha, some hater on youtube posted "gayer than Adonis cookies" in the comments section.
-

Kinda like our man Cormier :(
Both are bascially perfect though.
