I've always been able to just plug my camera into the computer and the "wizard" would pop up. Then one day, it didn't ??? Finally figured a way around it by going to my computer, e drive, etc. and manually turn on plug & play to get the wizard. ::) No big deal, but I don't know why that had just suddenly started... anyway, now all of a sudden, I plug in the camera, follow those same steps and the computer doesn't even recognize the e drive ??? Other than a reboot, which didn't do squat, I don't know what to try next...
Please help :'(

uninstall

you could also go into the device mamngaer and see if you have any yellow exclamation marks. may tell you were you have an issue. I am assuming the e drive is your camarea? Or do you have a partition that is an e drive? the issue if the the camera is the e drive can be one of several things. The usb cable is messed up or your usb port is, the firmaware of the camera may be coruupt, or pehaps something else

Yes

I think the cable is ok (has worked on another computer)(not mine).

have you checked the device manager yet? also check online for your camaras info. there may be a firmware update.
-
Plug and Play devices still have drivers associated with them they are just preinstalled. Check online for a newer driver or under device manager click properties and then update driver.

yup

classic ;D
pl, when you unplug the camera do you shut the program behind it down properly or just pull the plug?
that could explain why your computer doesnt even recognize the "e drive"
if i was you i would uninstall and then reinstall the driver for the camera and than send me a pic of your tatas as a thank you :)

I've had this problem too in the past. I couldn't resolve it even when I reinstalled the software for the camera.
The only way I've got round it is to buy a memory card reader that plugs into the computer with a USB cable and rather than attaching your whole camera to the computer just add your camera's memory card to the reader and take the photos off that to put on your hard drive. You can also add photos to the memory card this way too.

I think it probably was the USB cable :-\ ??? (it's only a few months old), but I ended up buying a card reader, so problem solved. ;)
Thanks for all your help.

How the hell does a cable get messed up in a matter of only a handful of uses?
