Title: Eating before bed
Post by: bigmanforlife on October 31, 2006, 07:12:11 PM
So is eating a normal size meal before bed good or bad.  I mean as far as gaining strength and size go.  Most of the time I am hungry before I sleep so I eat.  I understand if eating before sleeping is bad I could eat 2 hours or so before going to bed and that would stop the hungry thing...anyway what's the verdic?  thanks

Yes, it's a very good idea to eat before you go to sleep since you usually sleep for 8 hours and don't take any food in (catabolic!).

Try and get in a slow digesting protein (like casein)....people like to eat cottage cheese before bed.

Our bodies don't gain or lose by the clock. It's just that many people eat crap and too much crap before bed.  It's a good idea to have something before bed (not straight carbs) to keep your insulin levels from  dipping TOO low and to eat something right away when you get up.

I'll eat a can of tuna before bed rinsed in water.

I go to sleep by 10:00 p.m. on the weekdays, so at 9:30 p.m. or so I consume 1 cup of low fat cottage cheese mixed with 2tbsp wheat germ and some splenda for taste.  It gives you some slow dissolving protein right before bed to offset night time catabolism.  The wheat germ gives you a boost of B vitamins and the benefit of octacosonol (a substance which shows some promise in potentially aiding endurance and energy storage in the muscles).
