That's what I was just asking my roommate.  Even more ironic is the fact that 2 fuckers that strong would live close enough to one another somewhere in the country to be able to train and push themselves farther together like that.  Take Branch Warren and Ronnie Coleman both having come out of Metroflex.  The old adage "something in the water" comes to mind...but strength like this doesn't come out of a bottle of any sort.  I've also wondered the same thing about the Viva La Bam crew up there in PA and the Bloodhound Gang guys.  How does a band of wackos like that just come out of a remote, random location like that, all equipped with what it takes to make that big of a stir through a combination of talent and showmanship?

I wanna know how Justin and Steve met...what the circumstances were surrounding their coming together in the first place.  Did one influence the other, prompting the other to catch up to the other, were they both strong as shit like that and just figured they should train together, what?

It's the front squats that get me...jeez those guys must be made of a different ilk.  ???

In Branch's case, I'm not so sure about that...

You have absolutely no first hand experience with these compounds, so really...what always makes you feel so qualified to even speculate on shit like this?  You think there's any science on this earth that could explain such phenomena?  Science will ALWAYS be one step behind "God's creation."  Science, logic, reason...they are ALWAYS used to explain phenomena in retrospect.  Most new discoveries made are done so by "random error."  Logic never uncovers anything new...it's only "error," as we know it, that uncovers boundaries never before seen.  The scientific method is important, but I think it merely provides a framework more conducive to helping isolate and identify unforseen, seemingly random new occurences.

Yes, that's the word.  A much better way of putting it, thanks.

Serendipity--The art of finding something by looking for something else.

If you mainline gear, you will get stronger than someone simply abusing gear, who in turn will be stronger than someome just using gear, who in turn will be stronger than a non-user.  Some are just strong - I don't think Branch is a good example though, he is on way too much shit.

What in the hell are you talking about.  "Mainlining" gear would mean shooting it directly into the vein, which would probably result in either a stroke or pulmonary embolism.  What is your "definition" for "abuse."  What is your "definition" for "use."  How "much" do you feel would be an "adequate" amount for Branch Warren to dose, Matt.

Your shit reminds me of the old Ren & Stimpy "Ask Dr. Stupid" segments.   ::)

You are most welcome. I came across that actually when preparing for medical school interviews. I found the idea interesting and really hope new and helpful things continue to be found regardless of what was set out for in the first place.

Segway: anyone want to take a guess whose quads these are? They belong to a guy who should have a monthly column in Muscular Development (are you listening Steve Blechman?)...His contest reports/philosophies/and social thoughts and awareness on this endeavor called bodybuilding...........c reated threads that garnered more views and reads on bbing boards than anyone elses for many years.

If someone recognized that talent and saw how it would transpire to a regular monthly column in the muscle mags....it would probaly become the most read column there also.....i.e (mucho readership, magazine sales)

when using dC training you're always upping your weights or reps or both.  You get really really strong over time.  Your weights never really stay still, you're always progressing in poundages.

i don't disagree with you that much Dante, i actually agree on your theories of adding weight to the big, basic lifts and getting a tremendous amount of food i just disagree with the number of sets and the lack of carbohydrates in the diet, i also don't think that 8-12 reps constitutes "higher reps", you are a very dedicated guy.

Hard work.  Intelligent training.  Good heredity.  Will or desire.

I am not as strong as those guys but I am not far off and I am clean.  I have always trained heavy and hard and have been lucky enough to have decent heredity for strength.  I also have strong passion and desire for strength and my will to have it plays a strong role.

Chris this isn't a flame.  But just because you can single, double or triple a shit ton on the deadlift DOES NOT mean that you are strong in the sense that these guys are strong.  These guys, as well as the likes of Ronnie and Branch, possess an other-worldly sort of what I call "functional strength," in that they can do multiple, heavy sets of very heavy, very compound movements.  The deadlift doesn't test strength or fortitude like the squat does.  Squats are dreadful.  Fucking bent-over rows, if done through a full range of motion, with significant weight, for multiple sets of multiple reps (4 sets of 12, for example) ARE A BITCH.  I first remember Porter Cottrell saying this regarding the bent-over row, and he's right.  When you can do back, chest, shoulders, legs, all that shit in a week, and in that week perform numerous sets of full reps of REAL exercises, then you are indeed a fucking beast.  These guys are like universal soldiers or something.  Just relatively unstoppable in relation to the rest of the population.  I mean, how much of a beating does your body take doing these workouts day in, day out.  It's incredible.  You will never see a guy possessing this sort of overall strength have a physique that is nothing less than incredibly hearty/solid.  I believe it to be the training that initially enables them to gain the ability to metabolize both the incredible amounts of macronutrients and yes, I'm sure in some cases juice.  Have you ever tried shooting even 750 grams of test a week without training incredibly hard and heavy?  You just can't do it.  You can't stand it for long enough to get any kind of real gains from it.  You can't eat and you can't sleep and you want to come out of your own skin or jump in front of a fucking bus or something.  ALL DRUGS is never ALL DRUGS.  There is a very delicate synergy of variables required and hitting on that magic combination is the hardest thing.  Once you have hit that magic equilibrium, however, from everything I've seen, your gains come VERY fast.  It takes equal parts heart, know-how, and daring.  Couple this with a very acute appreciation for your own being afforded these efforts and THEN you have the true art of bodybuilding.  This is what many of the most jaded trolls here are missing.  THESE are the points that need to be elaborated on most in the various bodybuilding media outlets, IMO.

you're right on the money on this Jeff.

Thank you Sarcasm.  I knew you'd like that.  Look, I know what you're getting at when you laugh at 185 x 6 on the squat...but the groundwork has to first be laid.  There must be a balance of life achieved before one gets in the sort of zone required to become a superhuman, or else you may get a little way toward your goal, but you will fall tragically short in miserable fashion if the base you proceed to build on is not properly built.  For some, this "base" entails many things.  Bodybuilding and life are the same thing.  My main complaint with your commentary on Getbig has been the fact that laughing at small poundages, IMO, does nothing to further the sport.  What it does to most unenlightened people hearing it is influence them to handle more weight than they are truly capable of handling.  This leads to lack of gains, eventual injury, and from what I've come to be certain of, the eventual adoption of a multiple Getbig gimmick accounts.  Also IMO is the fact that most of the shitty physiques we've seen take over the sport since the Dorian era were due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the variables responsible for Dorian's physique.  It's more than bulking with insulin, it's more than throwing another 45 onto each side of your reverse-grip row.  For these feats you must be experienced, you must be prepared, and you must be worthy.  Anyone can shoot another cc of test or eat another meal or throw another couple of plates on your bar but most ARE NOT READY.  An emphasis must be made on the QUALITY of these lifts, the QUALITY of the nutrition, and yes, the QUALITY of "supp" intake and administration.  You must RESPECT these processes and methods.  Just because your bodyweight is rising or your poundages are increasing DOES NOT mean you are doing something right.  There is a FEELING, a very deeply-felt satisfaction, that must surely accompany "doing the right thing" and that is the most important compass there is to consider when going about your business in this sport.  It just encompasses everything.

that's not what I said.  You can get really strong using this type of technique.  It's my opinion that doing RP's the way Metzer used to recommend them is a little to tough on the joints, this way-using slightly higher reps you can keep on progressing without injuring yourself and if you're smart with the way you increase the weight you can keep going for long periods of time.

Mainlining is a lark term that Woten came up with.  I have a penchant for it so I choose to use it too.

Jeff, bro, lol, enough with the relativism.  "What is abuse?"

Here is a question:

"What is truth?"

LOL...come on man.  We all know the difference between use, abuse, and severe abuse.  Dude, you don't really want me to explain it, do you?

First off: Woten is an idiot

Second: There is nothing to explain, because you dont know what you are talking about

Third: The reason why you cant grow or get stronger is because you only work chest all the time.

So stop screaming that if you get on a cycle you will be stronger. You wont

Hope this helps ::)

Yeah, my bench is good - around 340 for a one rep max.  My best deadlift is at least 460.  Not 500, but somewhere between the two.  I routinely squat in the high 300s and low 400s for reps to parallel or below.  All of this lifts have or will be verified on youtube.  Obviously at 197 I don't have good genetics for building mass, but I have good genetics for building strength, and I'm not comparing myself to Ronnie or Steve Kuclo, but to the norm of what I've seen around the gym for the past six years of being there.

And yeah, I would get stronger on a cycle.  The laws of physiology apply to everyone.  I don't expect those "it's all about balls to the wall hardcore training!!!" retard juiced up meatheads to understand this.  Science is something people with IQs below 100 don't tend to get.  I'll tell you something, I've always been a reasonable person on these boards but some posters (like that dumb fuck "PECS" on the MD boards) just don't respond to reason AT ALL, so I don't bother.  From now on, I will probably just ignore the idiotic comments.  Fighting back doesn't work for some of the thick headed pricks either.

Just wondering, are you in love with Steve Kuclo? You like to put his name in just about every one of your sentences.

Well, first, I can bent over row pretty much the same weight those guys are using (very close).  My shoulder press strength isn't quite there but I can rep with 225 lbs.  As I said, I am not at their level but with a bit of drug use I would be and then some.  I know that to be a fact.  I am not naive on the topic but I also know what I have done clean and what drugs would do for me.

Anyway, my point other than a bit of vanity was that it is heredity and desire which are the primary components or world class strength.

As to repeated sets of 10-12 reps with those kinds of loads you know as well as I do that drugs vastly improve one's strength endurance in the gym.  I am not using that as a knock but to make the point to refute your idea of true strength.

This affinity that Matt has for Steve is well noted... I assume it is particulary due to his outstanding results. This connection Matt has made is the age factor and lack of seperating in the bodybuilding world e.g. as he is not a pro

Steve is a person that bodybuilding needs.  He has looks, height, a good personality, intelligence, and is overall a great face for bodybuilding.  This industry NEEDS more guys like him.  Obviously I'm impressed with his lifts of course, but I'm not gay - if I come across like that, oh well.

One more point - people talk all this shit about how hard pros train.  Take it from someone who has watched all the videos - THEY DON'T.  But some (Ronnie, Johnnie, Branch, Jay and STEVE) do train incredibly hard.  When I look at a pro video I can't look up to their level of intensity - with Steve, I'm thinking DAMN, I wish I could push myself that hard.  Something I RARELY feel when watching a pro video.  Steve trains harder than most pros - is stronger than most pros, and has market appeal unlike 90% of pros.  This guy is a diamond in the rough, but in a few years he will be pro.

I would be shocked if MattC benched 225 for 1 rep. Dude is a stick and a liar

Right on the first, wrong on the second.  When did I ever lie?

Dorian trains like a fuckin possessed demon you can't not mention his intensity amongst the greats like Branch, Johnnie, jay and now from I have seen Steve is a testament to hard training. Dorian on the other hand might just be the benchmark for intensity and no my judgement is not clouded by his training partner's extreme rhetoric. The training we can see is odviously gut wrenching and fuckin downright unbelievable.

Mainlining is a lark term that Woten came up with.  I have a penchant for it so I choose to use it too.  Mainline has a certain degree of association with abuse, so I use the term when I refer to those types of situations.  Wit - get it?  ::)

Nice excuse lol.  Mainling means IVing and NOTHING else.
