Hi fellow eliters, how long did it take you to reach this Mythical level? Took me 5 yrs since first training.

Hi fellow eliters, how long did it take you to reach this Mythical level? Took me 5 yrs since first training.
About 2 seconds on the way down and one on the way up. Five years sounds like a long time to finish a press :P
Sorry about this, I am studying way too much and losing my mind.

what do you get for benching 400 besides compliments from guys? doesn't sound too appealing. I'll just train for looks and spare my joints.
to each their own "bro" ;D
-
I did it after three years of serious training, hit 405 once and that was it, never touched anything higher than 365 after that, if I even did that. I tore a pec and now dont go over 315
-
actually i've only been training chest on machines and with dumbbell flys lately. I use light/moderate weight on machine bench, and heavy on flys and pec dec. My chest has improved this way and it's allow my joints to heal from tendinitis.
When benching with light weight you can flex your pecs throughout the motion, seems to work better.
true dat! that's why i just keep the weight low around 365, and just rep that for 10 to 15........

Yes, when we look at your chest we see an ideal except when we look at a "heavy benchers" chest like Matt C we see much to be desired. Well done on training outside of the "bench" mentality.... 8)

My peeps!

WHO ARE THESE TINYTITS INHABITING MY THREAD?!
-
were you on steroids when you tore the pec? doesn't seem to happen to naturals. A guy tore a pec benching 160lb dumbbells at my gym recently.
this was back when the poppers were the shit,so maybe thats what caused it. I really am not sure that is what it is, i just thought that maybe I tore it because it hurt and I couldnt bech for about2-3 months without it hurting, now I have never been as strong
-
heavy bench will work the chest pretty well but it recruits other muscles through part of the rep, so if you're chest is lagging focus on getting it stronger on flys, and with lighter weight while isolating the chest, keep the tris and shoulders out as much as possible by flexing the pecs the entire set and using less weight. my pecs grew fine with bench alone but elbow were starting to wear too much, my chest continues to thicken without barbell bench.
Different strokes for different folks. I think it was said that Olivia used barbells almost exclusively (his pectoral development was outstanding; Arnold also used it alot from what the literature says, however I am sure someone here in the know i.e. onlyme could probably say more about it), whereas people have said it is a terrible exercise for chest development (usually for shoulder reasons).

Congrat's on the 4, I remember the first time I did it, it was a pretty awesome feeling. I love how BB's always get so offended when strength is brought up. It's quite a feeling to not only look strong but to actually be strong. I see no point in looking pretty but being as strong as a Junior Varsity football player.
Oh yeah, everytime someone says benching is bad for your joints or dangerous is because THEY CAN'T BENCH S@#T.hahahahahah...long live the strong

I broke my high school record when I was a sophmore, the record was 395 and I did 400 in front of the senior who had the record, I missed school for 2 days because I thought he was going kill me :-\!!

You beat him and were stronger than him, but you were still scared? Mhmmmm *skeptical*

So you were stronger when you were a Sophomore in High School than any other point in your life?
Why did you go downhill so dramatically? So your lifting and bodybuilding career was at a peak in your High School years?
Or are you just fabricating a sweet reality?
I am pretty sure he did a 525 bench later in life as you would put it, although he would have to confirm this.
-
how much was everyones body weight when they benched 400?

Did it after 4 1/2 years of natural training at a bodyweight of 202.
Don't go anywhere close to that weight anymore. I keep hearing too much about tearing pecs and i figure it really isnt worth it. Just stick to 6-10 reps...
-
i benched 465 at a bodyweight of 250
Good bench but you have to work on your reading :P you have to do 500 before you can come in here :P

LOL....who said I went downhill?? Maybe not quite the same after I tore my pec at age 41......and if you want to be sarcastic about it, I could always comeback and say that my strength peak is something you will never get to!
-
In terms of economic policy, hell yeah, lol. As far as civil liberties go - way smarter than the conservatives.
criminals and low-lifes nearly always love liberals. law abiding, hard working and upstanding citzens don't. that's not to say republicans are perfect. republican is the worst political party, with the exeption of all the others.

Why so skeptical? He was about 8" taller and out weighed me by 55lbs. I find it funny how some people think just because someone is strong it means you kick the shit out of everyone.......get over it!!

SEMPER FI!

I was stuck with 315lbs for 6 months, where I could only managed 7 reps alone, until I met this guy at my gym who told me to work on my back and triceps more. He showed me some very good execises, and one of them was weighted Dips. I did weighted dips twice weekly, and other varieties for triceps, and I was doing lots of rows. a year and half later, I owned the 405lbs without a scratch. It's all about the weak points.
-
took me 6 years to bench 415 with a pause at 237 pounds.

how long did you experience with 315lbs?
-
Hit 405 for the first time at 22 years old. Been training since I was 13. Got real serious though when I hit about 19 in my training. I believe I weighed around 230lbs at 6' tall.

you couldn't bench 400 if every poster on this thread spotted you..
-
Took me friggin' forever to crack 400. I started lifting as a teen and didn't hit 405 until I was 31.
-

It took me over 3 years to get from 315 to 405 if that is what you are asking...
