i would say the best beaches are in brazil, australiA and USA....i heard there are alot of nude beaches too
-
Australia has some awesome beaches...the greek islands would have my favourites though
-
Many of them are in Hawaii. Kailua (my stomping ground) has been named the best beach in the world by that guy who travels the world rating beaches. (Dr. Beach, or something like that.) I'd like to have his job. :)

Best beaches are in the south pacific: Hawaii, Kuwai, Maui, Tahiti, Australia etc.
The next level down would be the Carribean, Brazil, Thailand, etc.
Next level down Meditteranean, Europe, etc.
Next level down Florida, Northeastern US Cope Cod, Hamptons, etc.

Virgin Islands are good for "long stretches with no people" beaches, for when you just want to lie there, comatose for a week. Cayman Islands are great if you want to actually do something without it being a big schlep... you can basically fall into the water anywhere in diving gear. Guadaloupe has to have the worst beaches on the planet. Jellyfish everywhere, plus all the Parisiens bring their poodles so the beaches are littered with doggy doo. If you find yourself with a cute marine biologist from Wood's Hole there's a nude beach on Martha's Vineyard that's really pretty. I personally was never there with a marine biologist, and was only 17 and had never seen a very old man naked before... which affected me emotionally, but do remember it was very picturesque.

Blackpool beach can't be beaten if you like seeing condoms and shit bobbing past your head as you swim in the sea

Nice! Sounds like Coney Island. Coney's great though, considering that it's in NYC & has a great amusement park & boardwalk, as long as you don't go in the water. ;)

i hate what men do to god's gift of beaches Why would you put a ferris wheel on one of nature's gifts?

Don't be so quick to judge. Great place; it's literally 20 minutes outside of NY. Expecting clean water's a little unrealistic for most huge cities.
Depends on the definition of a great beach:
-For great water, sand and natural surroundings, as stated above..
-For a great scene ALONG a beach: Coney Island, Venice Beach, South Beach, various asian & euro islands, euro beach resorts, etc.
-

It is unrealistic because people have low expectations and don't care. We could do better.

Sure but sometimes the magic of a place is in inverse proportion to cleanliness. NYC and Hong Kong would not be the same all nice n' clean.
Context also matters-a beach anywhere near a huge metropolis is a huge plus no matter what.

Agree.
We should hold ourselves to higher standards.
There is no reason why the waters outside of NY shouldn't be drinkable.

Beach Bum, how about Sunstars backyard. Can't get much better than that.

has anyone ever heard of GOA in india?...
-
Best beach I've ever been on is Dickenson Bay in Antigua - went there on my honeymoon and it is perfect. A close second would be the Maldives although there's a bit more coral to contend with - best scenery I've ever seen.
Shadow - I've heard of Goa and I'd imagine it's very nice but something puts me off about holidaying in India - it's all the vaccinations you need and cows and monkeys walking along the beach that kinda puts me off.

Used to live in the Carribean, i'll have to try those. Carribean's second to beaches in the pacific. Something about the tropical nature, the volcanic rock, the ethereal nature of the skies and even the clouds.

And oh by the way, this is the view from Kailua and Lanikai beaches, where I can often be seen swaying in my hammock. ;D

I went out to Brighton beach located right next to coney island. It's pretty dirty, but atleast it's not as crowded and it has nice russian women to look at! ;D

Brighton's a nice change of pace, feels like being in Russia!

My favorite beach in that area is Rockaway. It's not the nicest or the cleanest, but it has great waves, and the beach is so flat that, if you're into bodysurfing like I am, you can ride those waves until there's 1 inch of water between you and the sand.
It's also completely unpretentious compared to those Long Island Hampton beaches.
-

Hamptons are obnoxious. The best beaches in the NY area are on Fire Island. Same long island beautiful sand beaches as the Hamptons, minus the attitude, crowds and noise-there are no cars on the island. 1/2 the distance the Hamptons are from NY. Hotels aren't expensive, especially weekdays. The beaches themselves on Fire Island & the Hamptons are physically as nice as almost anywhere in the world IMO.
Outside the city Jersey beaches are solid, so are Jones, Robert Moses & Long Beach, as long as you don't mind crowds. Coney, Brighton, Reece and other beaches all in the same area of Brooklyn are great considering how close they are to NY, as long as you don't go swimming.

Been to some nice beaches.....but I always remember this documentary on the national geographic channel about these islands called the Seychelles....That one place I have to visit one day .

That does look gorgeous, and also doesn't appear to be swarmed with people. Something like some of the Hawaiian island beaches and others.

Maldives are nice to.
Indeed, Maldives.....end of thread.
Coral sand as opposed to rock sand, crystal clear warm water....heaven on earth.
-
Seychelles & Maldives are both on the Indian Ocean. Relatively unknown; i think this is my next trip, along with Mustique & the Grenadines in the Carribbean.

Well if you ever plan to go to the Maldives, hopefully you have a divers licence.
One of the best diving spots in the world, it would be a pity if you didn't take a look beneath the surface.

I have been to Antigua many times - amazing beaches - Darkwood Beach, Turner Beach, Half Moon Bay, Runaway Bay, etc
When I went to Bermuda - same thing - Church Bay, Elbow Beach, Chapman's Bay etc.
anyone who has ever been to Caledesi Island in Florida also knows that this island is one amazing beach -although not far enough south for my tastes.
-

Coast guard beach on Cape Cod is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There are a few others but I cannot remember there names. They are also in the cape and on the Vinyard.
