Lunk

"Lunk" is an ex-serviceman who is trying to come to grips with his act of desertion. He is a powerful man, almost brutish, yet he is a totally lovable character. Lunk is always eager to lend a hearty, helping hand in the war to recapture the Earth from the Invid.

Lunk came with a gun (the Gallant H-90 in rifle configuration).

Somebody posted the radio interview they did with that chick who tossed the dude for grunting.  Sounds like such a phony bitch.  The self righteous kind that frowns on people who deadlift, which happens to be one of the best overall body exercises their is.  Grunting?  What is a guy to do when he needs to summon that inner gut strength to get 1 more rep, grunt.

The turning of World Gyms into Planet Fitness is a sad day for all the hardcore lifters who use Worlds. In Seekonk Ma.  Power lifters, Bodybuilders and just big in shape guys are no longer welcome.  They intimidate members ::).  No they should inspire members to start getting in better shape.  Not the kind of shape you get at a social club.

I'd love to see Planet Fitness go under for such a stupid move.  I was a Worlds member for 10 years, but will never set foot in a Fitness Center.  All they're looking for are members who singe contracts and stop comming after a few weeks.  They have a membership card to show their friends they workout ::)

What's next?  A Starbucks in every gym?

Board, that's the same thing I was thinking.  Why in the hell would anyone even think about JOINING that gym?  Even if it's the only one in your area...I'd drive 30 minutes to another gym or even have a home gym before joining that place.

Check out the BRUTAL weight stack on that BodyMasters seated row...looks like a MONSTER 150lb weight stack!

Check out the FIEROSCIOUS cut off T on the dude with his back facing the camera...looks too hardcore to be in that gym. I bet he was warned about wearing a BLACK cut off T with a logo of a guy or animal SQUATTING.

This may be good in that it will bring back real gyms.  That is, you'll have your (1) Gloria Marshall Salons and (2) gyms.

someone said planet fitness has bought out world gym.

now that doesn't mean that planet fitness corporate now owns ALL world gyms since they are all owned by individuals.

what it means is they have bought the world gym name and will collect dues from those gyms each month for use of the name.

someone else said the current owners of world gyms have the option to change to planet fitness really cheap or stay as a world gym if they prefer.

some of the current world gyms simply cannot change over because of the way they are setup. they couldn't reduce their price down to a planet fitness level because of their sheer size and what they offer people.

some rural world gyms are doing very well and are leaders in their markets. most are doing pretty poorly because they are getting lost in the shuffle in their markets - if they go hardcore they are dead yet they are too gritty to not be hardcore - a big dilema.

most of the smaller, struggling world gyms will become planet fitness gyms though for sure.

Wow.  My world is a pretty dirty place. people powerlifting at all times, lots of chalk, etc.  They have cardio machines probably 400 feet away on the other side.  But a large chunk of the membership is young guys, 20s/30s, who do lift loudly.

They have a place called 'Omni' where all the yuppies go.  Has a salon, juice bar, etc.  You can actually get a pedicure while doing cardio if you want.

might depend on the owner...

if a LOT of world gyms go across to planet then the world gym brand will be weakened further making the owners of the big, successful worlds think "why should I stay with world if there are hardly any of us left anymore?"

depends where they are really... world gym might have a GREAT name in their town yet be considered rubbish in another town in another state.

one thing with world and golds is they haven't had a standardised business model for every gym the way planet fitness has - you know exactly what every planet fitness will be like. some golds/worlds are hardcore and some are softcore depends on the owner really...

my prediction is a lot of the softcore worlds will go golds and the hardcore will go powerhouse.

onlyme will predict they will all go temple gym... ;)

It's funny because I was championing the cardio/strength only business model (no aerobics, childcare etc) to some gym owners about 8 years ago in my country and they thought I was crazy...

They NEEDED the classes and childcare they thought... problem was they were hardly being used and were costing them a fortune in wages and rent to have. Most of those guys went broke btw once fitness first came in and they still had their huge overheads...

If you're in a market where people are tightwads like most planet fitness gyms are - check out the majority of their locations - then those people only deserve the basics the way planet fitness is going.

the result is though when you get that cheap practically everyone in town will join... some planet fitness gym's have 10,000 plus members.

I have personally watched Planet Fitness Locations in Florida sign up 500 new members back to back to back months....These guys are hilarious boycotting Planet Fitness...I am praying non of these guys have ever been in the fitness industry as far as running a facility; they would realize that hardcore lifters only make up barely 10% of the total gym memberships....Planet Fitness has a business plan that works...The overhead is incredibily low and the memberships are cheap, also on average when a Planet Fitness opens they have over 3,000 memberships in less than 3 months depending on the location....Boycott it guys LoL, because Planet Fitness doesn't really want ya anyway...Its called business.....

Hunters Creek & Lake Mary are two in Florida I have personally seen the membership stats on and Hunters Creek actually did over 800 new members one month...It is amazing how many people they sign up....I have also seen the stats for the Daphne, AL - which averaged over 300 new members a month and Two Mobile, AL locations doing 400+ new members within their first 6 months of becoming Planet Fitness....

Pity they aren't in australia - and I can't afford to bring it here -because people here would eat it up...

only 8% of the pop are gyms members compared to your 15% and the average dues are $60-$80 per month.

the thing is many of these gyms charging $60 per month in rural areas are terrible!

Even a scaled down planet fitness with say 40 pieces of cardio, a 12 piece circuit and some dumbbells charging say $25 per month would KILL IT seriously...

Places like sydney and melbourne would be a different story due to the very high rents except for the outer suburbs where they would do very well...

Sounds like a very profitable franchising opportunity for anyone wishing to move to Australia...It wouldn't take much and there has not been a Planet Fitness yet that has closed down because of lack of business...I even seen a Planet Fitness in a ghetto area do really well...Who would have figured that lol....

dude the opportunities here are UNBELIEVABLE in certain markets.

The problem is that all gym owners here try to cater to every single segment of the population and wind up catering to nobody!

Curves has only just arrived and they are killing it also...

Jaggy, do you own stock in the company?  Sounds like it.  If you are admiring a good business plan, I can appreciate that but sounds like you really support them and their philosophies.

Do you workout regularly?  Where do you lift?  Would you be happy to lift regularly under all these restrictions?  Not being able to deadlift, having all dumbells over 70lbs removed, squat racks and leg presses and other freeweights taken away or minimized, alarms going off when certain people are "threatened" by others?

Planet fitness is a private company owned by 3 guys from NH.

Shaggy's point is that planet fitness isn't pretending to be anything it isn't... they are upfront about being softcore and they have the right to do whatever they want it is their business afterall.

Problems have obviously occurred when golds/worlds have converted to a planet and the old members have had trouble adjusting.

Personally, I think there are some great opportunities opening up in certain US markets for some smaller, hardcore gyms to open up and do okay because planet and others are getting rid of the 10% of members that are hardcore.

So long as they keep their costs way down -via used equipment, basic buildings etc- there is no reason a hardcore gym can't stay afloat- look at metroflex and the like.

The days of doing what you want in a big, commercial gym are over...

Yes I have been into bodybuilding for years...I was actually involved with Planet Fitness on few different occassions, but I no longer am...However, I do not work out there because Planet Fitness does in fact have set rules that are placed in several visable locations that I do not want to follow so I choose to workout at another facility...You guys should ask Mike Katz where he works out, for he doesn't work out at any of the Planet Fitness Locations he owns because he knows the rules and is making alot more money by following the Planet Fitness business plan rather than the World Gym plan...The only reason I have said many times that I am laughing at you guys is because no one is forcing to you to workout there and if you do choose to workout at Planet Fitness than you have to follow there rules just like any other privately owned club...Your not going to walk into a non-smoking shopping center and start smoking and expect to get away with it LoL...

Actually i'm surprised planet fitness doesn't restriction their members to 3 workouts a week... that'd probably make them even more money by getting rid of gymrats!

i think i have a great idea.

we gather about 10 or 15 of the bigger getbiggers and go into a planet fitness. one of the major ones. come in with buckets of chalk, thick-ass lifting belts, knee wraps, the works. then we start a nice big group deadlift-oriented workout. no holds barred, chalk all over the place, grunting, smacking each other around, all of the most obnoxious stuff possible. see what happens.

Yup its called business...Hate it or love it...The nice thing about this situation no one is making you be a part of the business...Amazingly...A bout 8 months ago myself and a few of my hardcore buddies got together and opened this hole in the wall balls to the wall gym to give the other hardcore guys somewhere to go to workout after everyone started to go to Planet Fitness around the area I am in now and guess what??? We were able to pay for the rent and utilities the first 2 months and than after the third month we had to pay out of own pockets to pay for the place to stay open because most of the guys were going back to Planet Fitness just to be around the ladies in the gym lol...Hardcore lifters huh...

Jaggy, thats right, you were a manager at a Planet Fitness, right?

I understand their right to make rules and freemarket to make $, but we, as people who are passionate about fitness, have a right to bitch and complain, spread the word of their restrictive policies (and stories of harassment of certain bigger members).....and boycott.

Unfortunately, there are not so many great options in certain areas.  A lot of the smaller gyms also relied on the middle of the road lifter to keep them afloat.  These Planet Fitness and 24 hr Fitness giants take a % of clientel common to both gyms because of price....but they take away necessary equipment and weights to build a physique....the point of a gym.

Of course, no one is forcing us to join....but they are monopolizing some markets and are becoming the dominant force in the industry.  Your gym experience is my exact point!

There's no reason good for them to be so restrictive.  I understand the value in capturing the beginner market, certainly, but a gym should be accessible to most people, not just beginners.  Also, not allowing deadlifts and rack pulls and heavy squatting discriminates against all athletes too, not just hardcore lifters!!!!

Yes you guys do have every right to have your opinions, educate other members, and boycott Planet Fitness...By the way, let me tell you guys this...After being involved with Planet Fitness in Mobile, AL I went to a sister location of theirs to work out I had never been to because it was the largest one in the area...Guess what happened when I started benching heavy and I was making a bit to much noise??? I was asked to leave by the GM that I was business acquaintances with...Was I angry?? Na, but it did take me by surprise...The point is if you are that angry about it than do something about that is actually constructive...Get some guys together, draw up a business plan and jump into the water of owning and or operating your own facility rather than just bitching about another successful company.....Sound like an idea???

Yes, jwb, I'm surprised they don't.  Everything for that greedy dollar!
mate they probably eventually will!

when their clubs are basically full they will search for ways of freeing up equipment and this is one way of getting rid of the girls that spend 90 min per day on their cardio.

watch this space i bet it happens! and from a business point of view it will be the correct decision...

I hope it does open up a market for more serious gyms...but having a place that makes it reasonable for both crowds to lift shouldn't be so hard!

(Thanks for modifying your reply by the way)

There is a good reason for them to be so restrictive...Its called a plan that has worked for over 10 years now and is exploding as of right now...You need to walk a mile in the shoes of someone trying to run a fitness facility and realize that barely no one stays committed to going to the gym...Not even 40% of the people that become members ever regularly use the facility...Now in a business perspective if your membership fees are soo inexpensive and the atmosphere is non-intimadating then people won't even bother canceling their memberships on a average time of two years and you just keep signing up more and more people that are doing the same thing...Think about it...Just take a one minute and think about it...This is business...Local business in many areas have gotten totally pissed about Wal-Mart coming to their area and have tried to boycott that also, but like I said hate it or love it that is business....

People should relax it's not like these gyms are owned by a multinational corporation they are owned by moms and dads and they are for moms and dads. they are a franchise like subway or whatever...

Mike G the guy who started it is a genius... he created his own market in a saturated environment... amazing

The fitness industry will segment more and more...

I was just reading about these 2 brothers in chicago who have a gym that charges the exercisers nothing.

Their customers are personal trainers who use their gym and they charge them not the client. The more sessions a trainer does at the gym the less they pay per session.

The trainer can/does charge the client whatever they can get and they have a cheap base where they can build their own PT business with basically no restrictions on them as to what they do... they simpkly pay a % of each session to the gym... some days they might train outside so the gym gets nothing from that session.

I know someone who is opening an "executive strength center" for exes to come and do their strength training once a week to stay toned and they are getting loads of interest. They are simply renting out a small office space with about 8 machines and some dumbbells in the center of a large city... these exes know they should do some weight training once a week plus they still play their tennis, run, do an outdoor PT session etc.

Renting your gym out soley for personal training for all trainers is an idea that is actually very successful in more than just chicago and I have read about that same idea in most metro areas and they have been doing very well as long as you have a wide range of equipment...Olympic private training facilities are just like that and they are doing amazing and offer internship to graduate students to study the human body...There are many ideas still out there, but I will tell you this; of everything I have seen I have never seen the major mix of people one gym has appealed to as Planet Fitness has- You have wealthy, middle class, lower class, every color, every sex, every age and the only thing they don't have is the lowest percentage make-up of a fitness facility=Hardcore lifters...

interesting how the wealthy will slum it when it comes to going to the gym...

tell that to some gym owners who think they have to have spas and massages to get the rich in...

i don't think a gym's public property, i just want to see how terrified all of those people are when some serious lifters come in and do their thing. i'm one of those guys who gets motivated after watching someone throw chalk on his back and squat six or seven plates, it kills me thinking that people find that all intimidating and scary.

it's a gym, they're not coming over to you and stealing your wallet. people need to grow a goddamn backbone and realize that even if someone's loud and looks all scary, he's just lifting and in his own little world. you do your thing, he'll do his.

I belong to a World Gym in RI and spoke to the owner again today. He was laughing his ass off about the rumors about Worlds turning into Planet Fitness. He did confirm what everyone knew that the Worlds Gym trademark was sold but in the agreement is that it is up to the owners of the gyms itself to decided whether to change. His two Worlds in RI aren't changing and he said his other in Mass isn't either. We also have a Planet Fagness in RI and they are losing members left and right so now their offering 18mos membership for $99.

someone said planet fitness has bought out world gym.

now that doesn't mean that planet fitness corporate now owns ALL world gyms since they are all owned by individuals.

what it means is they have bought the world gym name and will collect dues from those gyms each month for use of the name.

someone else said the current owners of world gyms have the option to change to planet fitness really cheap or stay as a world gym if they prefer.

some of the current world gyms simply cannot change over because of the way they are setup. they couldn't reduce their price down to a planet fitness level because of their sheer size and what they offer people.

some rural world gyms are doing very well and are leaders in their markets. most are doing pretty poorly because they are getting lost in the shuffle in their markets - if they go hardcore they are dead yet they are too gritty to not be hardcore - a big dilema.

most of the smaller, struggling world gyms will become planet fitness gyms though for sure.

Generally you pay a yearly fee.  Now some franchises are charging a percentage on gross sales.  Like Golds in some cases.  Also, these guys are under an agreement and that agreement is binding till the expiration date. In some cases franchises protect themselves by having a clause where if a franchisee sells outs or changes their name they must pay a fine or penalty.  Cause they have established themselves for example as a World Gym now they are changing their name.  Now World Gym Franchising has to spend time and money finding another franchisee and again have to penetrate a market with another competitor.  So to help alleviate any financial loss and brand recognition they charge a fee.

From what I have heard there are close to 40 World Gym already looking into Temple Gym.  And I wouldn't think Planet Fitness can tell their franchisee what to charge.  A franchisee can charge anything they want so I wouldn't think there is a structured price schedule for all Planet Fitness's.

Geez........

I wonder if I would get kicked out of PF for having a giant member?

Imagine this, I am at the urinal minding my own business........my love hose is hanging out, in all its glory, some dude using the urinal next to me decides to peek over, and sees my colossal cock......will he be intimidated and if so, will he sound off the "lunk" alarm or the "Cokazoid" alarm?

Imagine the news coverage?

Actually, cocksurfing (as it's commonly called) is encouraged at Planet Clitness, so you don't pull the LUNK alarm -- you actually pull the cock until it lunks all over your mesh shorts.

I really am worried about some of you guys lol...Like I told someone else on here, instead of bitching about their rules as if they force you to pay for a membership there and make up your own fitness franchise that has a better business than Planet Fitness and put them out of business with your ultimate idea...Until then, bitch till ya get blue in the face cause at least it makes ya feel better to just bitch rather than do something LoL....

This is happenning all because the public of the United States has started to put a lot of emphasis on sensitivity and people's feelings. Basically a male child growing up today is not taught to be the man his grandfather and maybe father was, agressiveness is frowned upon. This is starting to creep into every area of our society and it's disturbing. We are taught to be passive, anyone who doesn't conform is frowned upon, and with a smirk called a "hardass". I would not be surprised if we saw a gay version of James Bond in the next twenty-years. I belong to a World Gym and if it ever converted to Planet Fitness I would leave. Problem is in my area that is the only gym with dumbells over 90lbs.. In my opinion the "fitness fad" will blow over eventually and these gyms will again have to cater to their old clientele. I applaud people that are letting their voices be heard, maybe it will help maybe it won't. At least you are acting and not being passive about the situation.

Thank you for stating "fitness fad"....In the fitness industry as far as running facilities go this is very true and it changes with the times...Planet Fitness and everyone involved (depending on the area) are doing very well cashing in on it...There will be another "fad" that will come out history has proven this in the fitness industry...I respect all of you for voicing your opinions, but it won't get you anywhere as long as they are still successful...How bout one of you guys come up with the next "fad" that appeals to more of the majority than Planet Fitness does instead of just bitching about it......

Well, sure I'll do something.  I want to create a society again where Men are men and aren't told to ask like a bunch of crying pussies.  Who cares about people's feelings in the gym.  At my college, there was a rule of no cut off sleeves because of sweat on the benches and to not intimidate smaller members.  Stupid shit like that pisses me off.

Than get a business plan together that you feel will work and that will appeal to just about everyone that has the ability to use a fitness facility...Then, unless you are pretty wealthy, get a group of investors together and get something started...Ya never know, the founders of Planet Fitness did this and they are doing extremely well now....You could be next and get the changes that you want to see done....

...  and to not intimidate smaller members.

That's classic, if the smaller member is intimidated by the fact that the guy next to him is warming up for barbell curls with the weight of his max bench then HE is the problem not the bigger guy. A person like that does not belong in a gym, he belongs behind a desk as a sectretary eh.., I mean Administrative Assistant (didn't mean to trample on his feelings). Someone who belongs in a gym would be motivated to see someone bigger and stronger than them, that's a lifetime member and a customer, not someone who wants to try "working out" for a month and see how it goes.

Believe me, I tried to change the rule at school and it did not end well.  As far as opening a gym, I have thought about when I have become more established.  I'm young and would need some more capital but hey, maybe you will see a gym or chain of gyms I create.  I just think by catering to one group, you alienate others.  If this was the onyl gym around and you wanted to train for a show, you would be SOL.  See the point?

Okay wait, wait, wait....You say that Planet Fitness only caters to one group??? Why do you think they are doing so well again??? You have it backwards brother, just about the only groups they don't cater to is the extreme lifters, bodybuilders, and powerlifters...That my friend makes up the smallest percentage at most facilities...If you can find a way to bring all of them together than you will be a very rich man...Many have tried so far and I am not saying it cannot be done, but it has not been able to be successfully done on a wide spectrum so far...Planet Fitness has been successful at catering to the majority though, that is the reason they are doing so well and spreading like wild fire all over the nation....

Opening a gym is an idea I have been considering for a while now, I am trying to see how profitable it is in the long run. If I had the money I would open one up right now as kind of a "pet project" where all I would care about is it not losing me any money and not worry about making a living off it.

Planet Fitness is cashing in on a fad, they are looting the fitness industry and anyone who is truly serious about training. Yes, they do make money, but like many other business ventures just because something is profitable it doesn't necessarily mean it's moral.

No, they spread because of the people that lift once a week and take up space real lifters use.  They do cater to one group, pissants.  I would bring them together by having two separate wings.  the average lifter does grunt, it's normal.  It doesn't have to be Ronnie Coleman proportions but during a straining lift you make noises.  Shit, most people do that when moving shit out of their house.

So in your opinion...There are how many types of people in the consumer market??? Let me ask you what you think the majority is??? Also, I tried to the two seperate wing thing and the hardcore lifting guys would always end up wondering back over to the portion of the facility I had marked for "fitness" only because most of the women were over there...Go figure lol....

I know that since it's their gym I have to follow their rules, since I don't agree with their rules I will not support them with my membership fees. I won't try to go in there and purposely break their rules to prove a point, it won't get me anywhere but possibly arrested. What I would do is write a well worded letter to the company and urge others to do the same, there is strength in numbers and if there is enough people they will eventually be seen as dollar signs.

I think this is the most intelligent post I have read yet from any of you guys...Now that is the way you go about it, but let me ask you this: What makes you think they will change their rules when that is one of the main reasons other than membership price they are doing so well??? I am really trying to slam this into you guys that heavy lifters, bodybuilders, powerlifters, extreme lifters are part of such a small percentage of the population it is not worth it to cater to them...I swear to ya man about 3 years ago I tried to cater to everyone when I was running a pretty big facility and still couldn't do it and I have spoken to many many others that have done the same thing and failed...The sad fact is that the hardcore lifters are the most dedicated gym members, but they will ruin you if you cater to them because there is no money in it...

Yes, I know I am sounding idealistic but it's just my view. The businesses that are put there to make a quick buck fade away the ones with a strong business plan that cover ALL areas of the market stay. Why would you want to give away even 5% of your possible profit, an intelligent owner will figure out a way to get that 5% back instead of alienating it.

Brother, I have been trying to figure that out for years and many men more intelligent than myself have been trying to figure it out for decades...If there were an easy answer than it would be done already...What Planet Fitness is doing is marketing to the majority better than any other fitness franchise I have ever seen I will be honest about that...I felt a little bit the same as some of you guys did about their rules, but coming from a perspective of having run a facility before I could not believe how they had actually found a way to cater to the majority of consumers and were very successfully proving it....

You have more experience in running a gym than I do, I take your word for it that it's very difficult. But I believe that there are gyms in this country that have overcome this. It's easier to just cater to the "majority". But if you dig into to it deeper, you find that your typical "mainstream" customer is not renewing his/her membership, you might think no worry I just had 400 new members sign up this month, what you should be thinking is, why the hell aren't these people renewing their contracts? Are the "lurk" alarms not working? What's wrong with my facility? Is it my target clientele?

I will give you a few quick stats that are an average but very accurate...The average Planet Fitness member is in a non-contractual agreement(meaning they are not forced to pay by contract) and the average Planet Fitness member is also only paying anywhere from $10-$20 per month for membership...With that being said the average member does not end their agreement for the period of 2 years on average...By that time, more people have already signed up, more people have moved to the area, and more people will not end their agreements or they will renew their agreements after leaving....I have watched it happen first hand...I even watched guys that hated the rules go to other facilities and end up coming back and obeying the rules just because most of the women were at Planet Fitness lol...

To add just a little bit more you have to judge your gym based on the monthly EFT and monthly in take of money(More so on the EFT)...More than the amount of members...If your monthly EFT keeps going up and compare it to the last years EFT will really tell ya if you are doing well with your gym...

$10-$20 a month is pretty damn low. I can see how they get so many people to sign up. Around my area, LifeTime gyms are pretty popular. A couple of the people I work with are members and are paying about $60  a month. The gym does offer a lot, most of which I won't use. But they also have dumbells going up to 130lbs and deadlifting is allowed, no chalk though. The place is huge and there is at least three different ones that I know of in the Chicagoland area. It's not a World Gym but it sure as hell beats a concept like Planet Fitness. The way I see it, most people don't see $10-$20 a month as big investment so they don't care if they waste it by not going. However if you are shelling out $60 a month,  you will think twice before signing a contract if you know there is a slight chance you will eventually quit. This goes directly against the concept that Planet Fitness is using, but the fact is that LifeTime fitness is doing very well. If your product is good and you have the right target consumer you don't have to lure business in with low prices. Both models work, but I think that the Planet Fitness model will not stand the test of time.

Very good for reading between the lines....You hit the nail on the head about people not viewing it as a major investment...Thats the reason they won't on average end their membership for years....Simply because the average person spends more than $10 the first part of the work week on fast food lol....Yes, Lifetime Fitness does have a great business model, but when you take into consideration overhead and how much it costs each month to run a big facility then your profit margin is somethng you should look at...I know of several Planet Fitness location on the northern east coast that have a profit margin of over $50,000 per month(That is $50,000 profit after you subtract overhead by the way)...The Planet Fitness locations I have been involved with have averaged a profit margin of $8,000+ after only a few months after converting....

Shaggy is right.

The planet fitness model is low risk compared to these huge gyms like lifetime... People are paying so little they don't expect much other than equipment that works and is clean. They also don't stress if they only go once a month or less since the investment is so low.

Bigger gyms with more services that charge more have loads of headaches and often make a lot less profit. Putting on a decent aerobics program can cost you $5000 a week if you have a couple of studios.

Lots of gym owners are converting because it is a low stress business to run unlike most gym business models...

Only if we could accomplish as much as you have with your posts. ::) You can state percentages of hardcore lifters to lights users all day but it wont change the fact that this rule is rediculous. Fine, fine....if you want your quiet, "unintimidating" gym then you can have it. Its not that I feel it will one day take over my gym (it very well may) but its an accurate reflection of society. We are not just seen this way in the gym but walking around on the street. I can say from personal experience that everywhere I go I am seen as a "challenge" by others. I come to this conclusion because I am frequently confronted with people who seem to need to prove to themselves that they are "just as tough as that guy!" Its not just me it happens to either. Its downright annoying. I dont think that everyone should go out and "get big" but if thats not your thing then just accept it and learn to feel good about who you are without looking down on others for making a noise, sweating, or looking intimidating. YES, I understand that this will not change anything because I am just on an internet board but it doesnt mean we cant have an opinion and discuss it. I dont care to change it (because we are all entitled to do what, go where, and say anything we wish) but I feel I should let people know that such things exist and are not universally agreed with. I WILL let everyone I know hear about this and try to keep those who I am in direct contact with informed about what can only be described as segregation (n. The policy or practice of separating people of different races, classes, or ethnic groups, as in schools, housing, and public or commercial facilities, especially as a form of discrimination.). This IS discrimination. If that is really how you feel then go to Planet fitness, but know that this is how you will be seen by "the lower percentage of gym goers."

Thats just about all I have to say on that so start tearing it apart if you wish. ;)

Naa I won't tear into ya just as I have not tore into any of you guys...I am a bodybuilder guys lets get that said first...I don't have a bias view on the Planet Fitness thing either because they are very successful in what they are doing...Did I have to stop working out there even when I was running one of them?? Yes, I did because of the rules...What I am trying to tell you guys is that you are all just bitching and bitching about a company that is not marketed towards you and you are offended by it is all...To call it discrimination is ridiculous...Ya know how dance clubs have certain rules like at many places no solid color t-shirts, no backwards hats, no nudity ect...You guys have to understand these are privately owned clubs they can set their own rules lol...Just like many country club fitness centers I have been in you have to wear a collar shirt in order to workout there...Do I start bitching and complaining about discrimination because I shouldn't be judged because I workout in a t-shirt?? No lol....You guys keep up the good bitching though and tell everyone your feelings about the rules of Planet Fitness, I do when I run into people and I still see a few bodybuilders going and signing up there lol...I can't believe my eyes what a bunch of hypocrites lol....

So they are not discriminating? Okay, I wont argue, people can decide for themselves. I just wish I could take off my muscles (like say a t-shirt) and workout with everyone else. :D

Yeah and I wish I could walk into an aerobics class and fuck every hot chick in there too without any of them saying no...LoL...I would also like to walk around with my dick hanging out too and not get arrested...More than anything else, I wish I could inject my roids in public and not have to worry about the DEA...I could go on and on about what I could wish for...Rules are rules the fact is they are successfully marketing the majority of consumers right now...Fitness Fads change about every 10 years or so..Something else will come up and we will all bitch about that too...I hate those damn places Curves for Women because they won't let me work out in there because I have a penis what a bunch of dictators they are LoL...I am now going to have to workout at a hole in the wall balls to the wall 24 hour gym to where I can actually bodybuild and make as much noise as I want to boohoo lol...I hate being forced to go to a gym to where I can make progress damn Planet Fitness lol.....

LoL...At least someone agrees with me on that lol...Now, all the others that agree with that too should all write letters to your state representatives and try to get a law passed so I can walk around with my dick hanging out...Because I am so offended that I can't walk around with my cock out right now that I am going to just do it anyway and boycott all the areas that don't agree with my same line of thinking...That will show congress and they will definitely pass a law to allow it because I know that would appeal to the majority of the population LoL....

::)  they imply that a bodybuilder will intimidate and judge others. While that's true of some, it's just as true for others groups.  What they are doing they may have a right to do "legally," but that doesn't mean bodybuilders have to like it or agree with it.  f**k Planet Fitness and any idiot who supports an Establishment that stereotypes bodybuilders and tosses mockery and judgments at them--f**k their niche.
