Have you guys seen the rebadging phenomenon? For instance there is is this kid who has a mid 90's (E36) BMW 3 series, it sounds like a 4 cylinder, but he has it rebadged as a M3. I saw another one at work and the guy rebadged his as a M3. I was talking to a guy at an Infiniti dealer and he said he saw saw someone rebadge there var as a G45, there is no such thing!!
For Mercedes, people will rebadge their V8's as V12's, or give them AMG badges. Hyundai owners, who have that 4 headlight looking car will rebadge their cars as Jaguars. and of course Honda Accord owners will put the Type R moniker on their cars
I was reading about the 1 M8 prototype (the 8 Series), being that the 850 CSis was done by the M Division, but, was not a full M Car, it did not get the M badge. Well, there have been numerous spottings in Canada of M8's, where there is only 1 in existance!!
What do you guys think about this?
Well th

The other day I saw a GMC dualy pickup that had Escalade badges all over it...
...I had to give him half credit because he actually had his front end replaced with an old escalade bumper/grill. ;D

Rebadging doesn't tick me off, ...what ticks me off is when those SOBs don't get their badges from the autoparts stores, they steal them off your car. >:( That ticks me off.

Whats ironic is the people who can afford the pricer cars (i.e. SL55, or 65, S55) debadge their cars, so you don't know what they have when pull up to them at the light.
Those who can't afford them, rebadge .
Look, if you have a Mercedes E350, I respect that, but I don't respect someone rebadging it as a AMG model.

Here Titus sits in jail while these rebadgers are out running the streets!

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they don't try and pass it off as something it isn't when selling it. I know the thread title lists BMW and Mercedes, but THIS is VERY common with american muscle cars. For example, many people will take a chevelle malibu and convert it to an SS. The Camaro is another car frequently converted to SS,or RS.It Usually means a different hood and/or trim. Most of the time,if done correctly, the average person can't tell, but even the ones that do know the minute differences still prefer the car to have the SS badges, simply beacause they look better.

Rebadging is embarrassing for those who do it.
When I was at college, this group of muzzie's thought they were cool as fuck when one of their brothers come to pick them up in a Toyota MR2 with FERRARI badges on it...
ROFL... funny as fuck!

Dickhead - that's what I think of them. If you can't afford the original, don't be a cheapskate and rebadge. They're only fooling themselves.

Alot of people are rebadging their Honda Civics as BMW's---why?

I know about the Muscle cars, but the thing is, why do it? If the Vin # was never an SS Vin, who are you trying to prove or impress? My Uncle has a 65 Impala coupe that had a 283 in it, and it had the "283" emblem on the side. If he puts a larger engine, say a 427, I guess he would put the "427" emblem on it, because it now has a 427. But, putting a SS badge on it would be sacrilegious, because the SS was an option that had more cache, and the Vin # probably match that option.
People who try to convert their 3 series to M3's or 5 series to M5's clones, by badging are only trying to fool themselves. Plus when you pull up to a light somebody going blow his doors off. Look, I have a Lexus IS300, but I'm not going to rebadge it as a IS400, there is no such thing. It's stupid and a poser move. And I admit that couldn't afford a M3, but if I had a 330ci, I sure wouldn't rebadge the car.

They aren't even really do that. It's sad. I thought only teenagers did it.
If you can't afford it--dont' rebadge it. Go to school & get a degree, get a better job, invest more wisely, marry rich, etc. Save your pennies and buy the real thing. >:(

I think the rebadge on a classic muscle car can be ok. Since it is a hotrod.A custom more of less. Rare and one may not be able to get the real deal even if they has millions to spend on it. I think people where referring to the losers who cannot afford a m series or amg series ride and rebadge to act like they have the real deal. For status or to impress girls.
It is most common with the importers. Type r badges on base models. BUnch of hacks!

based on the gtr
Parker do you like your lex? I still cannot figure out why they do not stuff a 350 horse v8 into an IS and call it a day. Lexus makes some great cars. They supposodly have a supercar coming out based on the new gtr. I heard it could be a v12 :o

They are doing that. Suppossedly, this car is going to be called the IS500 (they have registered the name). Supposedly it will have the 4.6 or a 5 liter engine. And around 420-450 HP.

I've been seeing a lot of Mercedes cars lately, all of them seem to be AMG or 600's. Now somethings surely wrong here? ::)
You used to see rebadging with older cars, but now it's happening with cars that are already expensive to begin with like Mercedes S, CL and SL's.

You Yanks do this ???
-
stupid fucking morons that should be ass raped by diseased, uncut, cheese dicked syphilus ridden herpes having asscheese smelling homeless guttersnipes.
it really pisses me off, like the guys that put "cobra" badges on their 99-04 mustangs. what fucking tools!
or mercedes owners, remember a few years back, when this was really huge, when people would switch up the sl320 badges for the 5oos? disgusting, and tacky!
-
...as far as musclecars are concerned, many people do it and note them as clones. but, to pass it off as something it's not....see my previous post.
-
I'm not sure why anyone would care if people put other badges on their cars... The badges on BMWs come off really easily (often by accident while the car is being washed).

I did this with my 95 Camaro Z28. I took off all the Z28 badges, got me some "salad shooter" rims (with drag radials), replaced the exhaust to a single outlet (to look like a V6), and would go trolling for races with all the Ricers. (Too bad I had an LT4 Hot cam kit, long tubes, 12 bolt and all the BMR suspension goodies to go, and a "sneaky Pete" bottle in my hatch where most people put subs)
