Title: deploying to afghanistan
Post by: tattzandmuscles on November 26, 2006, 06:40:08 AM
So here is my situation, i am on the military bomb squad and i am deploying for 6 months to afghanistan. i am taking some supplements with me to the middle east but i am not quite sure what to take with me. i am looking hopefully to preserve any muscle i have. our operations tempo is really high so i dont think that i will be able to be as consitant with working out as i would like to be, plus i have no idea what kind of food they will have for us or how often i will be able to eat. i have packed about 6 months of bcaa's and glutamine and some ephedra ( just to keep my bodyweight down and give me energy for those long days in the mountains) so any advice on supplements i could take or have my friends ship to me would be greatly appreciated, thank you

hahahahaha, why on earth would you use ephedra if you're going to be going to that shithole, you're going to look Ethiopian when you get back, you should be trying to preserve as much muscle as possible and ephedra eats it up, BTW you're a moron for enlisting, good luck in the "war on terror".

Squadfather,

You need to STFU.  Afghanistan is NOT Iraq....

I personally wouldn't bother with taking too many supplements. Maybe just vitamins & minerals because I highly doubt MRE's contain everything your body needs. I'd forget the ephedra because if you're on the bomb squad you don't need jittery hands.

Fuck you asswipe.  You need to understand that military service is the most honorable thing you can do for your country, something that you'll never have.

As far as the ephedra is concerned, I would leave it at home since the substance is banned.  Basically you would face the same offenses as though you had meth or something.  Stay safe and come home safely

thanks for the advice, i appreciate it, i was just going to bring something for energy, we will be doing a bunch of air assaults and the days will be long so i wanted something for energy. just for the record the military is still on the fence on ephedra ( considering they give it to pilots) to stay awake, i don't think that they will ever go for a total ban, plus it is not on their banned list, also don't call people who enlist morons!!! i have a lot of good friends that have fought and died for our country and i think it is horrible to say something like that. politics aside soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are good people and the do their job whether they like it or not. also you should not make fun of people for asking questions, that is why you ask a question because you may not know the answer, once again thank you for the advice!

Don't even bother addressing Squadfather. Just try to keep yourself safe & make it home alive for your friends & family.

´Weight gain powders, protein powders, protein bars, multivitamins, multiminerals and i do think that the epherine hcl is a good idea (i would take it with me just in case).
If you take bcaa´s and creatine take 2-3 times recommended dose.

When you do have a chance to train do heavy free weight compound exercises with relatively low reps 5-8, 2-4 exercises per muscle group and 2-3 sets per exercise, also do as little running as you can and when it´s time to eat, eat as much as you can (even if it´s not healht food) with these tips you don´t lose what "little you have".

Good luck and don´t get killed...

Protein powder, creatine, a good multi and maybe some aminos should be perfect... Anything you can do to stay anabolic and preserve muscle should be top priority. Stay safe bro and thank you for your service and sacrifice on our behalf. Peace, G

Take enough protein that you get about 1- 1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight.  Stock up on protein you might not get enough from just the food over there. Definatley glutamine. You may even want some creatine as well.  Then the others aminos and multi vitamins.

Be safe dude and thanks for fighting with our country.  I may not agree with all we are doing over there but it is honorable and dont let anyone tell you any different.

Don't worry to much about your bodyweight,

it's starts snowing over there in Afghanistan and very soon it will be freezing day and night.

Go ask if there's some decent peanutbutter. I don't know were you will be suited,
but on some places the food tastes like shit, there is no alternative, and the locals don't have much.

You´re welcome man and one more thing sleep as much as you can, because that will help you too, to preserve muscle mass.

Yes, sleep, then eat. Don't go too hard on the training. Intensity yes should be kept high but frequency no.

Squadfather, have a little respect for those who serve.  Without them there would be a draft, and then winners like you would be on the front lines.

There are only losers in a war. Especially when you have to fight them on the other side of the world.

no shit, as long as we are fighting them on their turf, I feel we are not the biggest looser.  But honestly we do need to pull out.  We shouldn't be fighting their civil war for them.

Some times I feel like joining the Army. Like when I watch the war on CNN or see shows like "Over There." It's just that...you know...I feel like I missing out on something. Like I see those guys. Vets, that is. And I want to be part of something too.

Ensure that you have access to a reliable and clean source of H2O otherwise every thing heads South real quick between dehydration and Dysintery! Good luck, food doesnt stay real fresh over there real long, and your cooks will probably ratpac out grub that tends to block you up too, so watch dietary fibre intake too!

What does insulting someone accomplish?  If you don't have any useful info to post, then don't.  Most of us are here to help each other achieve a common goal.  But there are a few like yourself who feel the need to talk sh** behind a computer screen.
