Title: Are the best crop of genetics in the nfl?
Post by: body88 on November 28, 2006, 06:05:18 AM
This past summer I had a few drinks with Pats Rb Corey Dillon over at a place called waterworks. It is a outdoor nightclub in Marina Bay is a city within the city of quincy on the water. It has a boardwalk restaurants, clubs and highend townhouses. Most of the Patriots players live there.

The guy is BIG in person. Looked to be about 230 at 5'11. But he was ripped! This was impressive to me since he is ob natural. I saw him at training camp and he was ripped and jacked. Very impressive for a natural who does not bodybuild. He is also a pro football player so 16 weeks out of the year(not including the playoffs) he prob does not have the energy for intense weight training sessions. That is if he does not have any nagging injuries that keep him away from the weights.

There are a ton of genetics freaks in the NFL imo. I think the NFL holds some athletes with the best genetics in the world.

is the nfl anything like the nba where they scout the biggest units and teach em the game...where more talented but smaller, less 'genetically gifted' catz may be overlooked at selection or by scouts?

Not really. There are some smaller guys in the NFL who do well. Kevin faulk is about 5'8 200 bills. Steve smith who is the best reciever in the NFL is about 5'10. The jags have a really short back who is a beast. I think he is 5'7? Strong as shit tho.

They do draft big ultra athletic guys. But most know the game inside and out. Most all players are drafted from college. Before that played in highschool etc etc.

NFL might be the toughest and a close 2nd.  Def best BBing genetics.

NBA has best collection of athletic genes.

Hockey players are some pretty good athletes. Kind of like basketball on ice with a stick for arms!

how do you know they don't juice?  with millions of dollars and glory on the line don't you think alot of them would take the risk?

they may not bodybuild but they all lift weights multiple times per week

but yeah no matter what they are genetically gifted

Tell you what. The average NHL hockey player is probably tougher and has a higher tolerence to pain than your average an NFL player.

True, I am just giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Without a doubt the NFL. The skill players, receivers, db's, running backs, a few linebackers and defensive lineman and some qb's are awesome athletes. The NBA has lots of awesome athletes but also many of the big men are stiffs.  I have to give the NFL the edge because of that.

I tend to agree, although I think the best athletes in the NBA (like Kobe, LeBron, Odom, etc.) compare favorably with the best athletes in the NFL.  Still, I'd give the edge to NFL players if we're talking about overall talent given the physical and mental requirements of the game.

NFL gathers the best genetic freaks no doubt. Somoans who are naturally big also seem to thrive in the NFL.

Yes, the NFL is populated by genetic freaks of nature. Just on the Patriots there are examples like Ben Watson. Lawrence Maroney and Richard Seymour.

And please explain to me how it's physically possible for Vince Wilfork to move as quickly and athletically as he does? Richard Seymour is 6'6" and 310 pounds, think about that for a second. That is GIANT. And Ben Watson is a 6'3" and 255 pound block of steel that runs like a cheetah. How is that possible?

There are examples just like those on every team in the league. NFL players are the pinnacle of professional athletes.

Or in Vince Wilfork's case all food, dude looks like a beach ball. I'll never understand how he moves so quickly and athletically.

Shit, when the American sailors brought football to Samoa who would have thought? Is every Samoan built like a Mac truck?

Those guys are awesome athletes. But we did see Jordan's ineptness at playing baseball.

I don't think you have to be a great athlete to play baseball.  Not much of a comparison between baseball players on one hand and football and basketball players on the other IMO.

I love watching big Vince move. He and Ty Warren make 300lbs Seymour look small. Got to hold a SB ring the other night. The Pats cheerleaders (USO tour) were here and their director had a real one. Huge!!!!!. I'm sure the Mannings are jealous.  ;D
