Seeing as all these threads about bench are on here, I thought u guys may enjoy this
this guy is a american shotputter, not even a powerlifter, here he does 622 raw for 1 rep. Heaviest he has done is 645 for once. He is a really nice guy, I got a chance to throw with him for a bit when I was down in the states this summer. Incredible strength, especially seeing as he is not even a powerlifter he is also 6'6 a pretty big rom too.
he is drug tested on a regular basis as he is a world class athlete, come to your own conclusions...

how much does he weigh? thats alot more than i can press
-
depends, inseason he is over 300lbs for sure, he is so massive in person too. Incredible talent too
-
damn i wonder what the dude eats to get so heavy. i could never get past 270-275 forcefeeding then i started carrying more bodyfat than i wanted to however, i wanted to maintain my sexyness, but damn this grizzly bear can put up some weight!
-
his frame allows hi to be that heavy, he can also push a 16lb ball 75feet! He is gonna win in the olympics in 2008, while I will be 12-15th hopefully.

i dont really beleive the whole 'bigger frame' thing usually to height bonstructure is not going to be much different
-
That was a CRAZY bench :o
-
he doesnt look like he has crazy size in his arms, looks kinda fat. but damn thats an unbeleivable bench
-
Throwers of all kinds tend to have huge pressing power (bench and overhead lifts).
-
wow
-
he is huge in person, chris, it is usually shotputters only who have crazy pressing power, most other throws like discus or hammer tend to focus more on olympics lifts. Shot is the only motion that actually involves a push.
daddy, it you look at pics of him, sure he is carrying a little extra, but it is cool to see that power without a shirt or crazy arch or any of that garbage. To top it off he isn't ever a powerlifter and spends most of his time doing drills.

his strength is unbeleivable. and him being 6feet6 all that 622 pounds is having to travel quite the distance!! so in reality he is probably the strongest bencher out right now
-
and he isn't even a bencher!!! altho his technique being as tall as he is really depends on his upper body, he can't up much legs in the cirlce being as tall as he is. Imagine if he was using the drugs that plers today use. LIke I said, he may or may not use(very doubtful after I hung out with him), but he is tested like crazy at every meet, and he hasn't ever failed one in his life.

Warrior, I understand that but practicing powercleans (what most track athletes do as opposed to full cleans) and jerks often builds their general pressing power and for many this can translate to a strong bench (not 600 + lbs strong but you get the idea). You will note I only specified pressing power and I did that on purpose as to not single out the bench press. I only need to think of Dallas Long who could play with the 150 lbs dumbbells for overhead presses and could clean and jerk in the 400 + range if my memory serves.

Out of curiousity, do you know for a fact those are 20 kg bumpers?
As to drugs, let's not even go there as track and field athletes are as doped as anyone in sports. The crap about them being tested so much and therefore clean is just that, crap.
I have no idea if that fellow uses but your implication with your statement is just a bit naive or you are trying to pull the wool over people's eyes.
-
I wasn't there when he did it, but I doubt they would be fake. He really doesn't have any reason to fake it, I even doubt if he actually wanted it taped.
And yes you are right, dallas long was nuts. Also there is a javelin thrower, andreas thorkildsen, who is like 170lbs who has a 400 bench so you are right. We do alot of snatches and jerks so that helps too.
About the drugs, like I said, I don't live with him 24 hours so I don't know. But I think he would have failed a test by now if he was using. Especially since he won the 04 world indoor champs.
I am curious what makes u think we are as doped? I can verify 100% that you can make it to the top without using drugs. When I say to the top I mean make the final in any major comp, whether that be olympics or world champs.
Jason tunks, canadian discus thrower did, and I know for a fact he is clean.
-
The funny thing about drug testing is exactly what drugs they are testing for. The Olympics by far are the most stringent and no way in hell could one pro BB or powerlifter pass. Not one. The IFBB and the PDI only test for certain drugs. Mostly just direutics. And as far as I know testing for HGH hasn't been done yet as with other stuff.
And those are probably 20 kg. If not they would be 10 kg. and the bar bends and acts to heavy for them to be that light. I don't see anything that points to the fact that weight is what they say it is. The guy is strong as hell and just keep it at that.

I won't get into the drug argument. Let's call it an educated opinion.
I am not saying the plates were faked. As you should know not all big bumper plates are 20kg. I was not sure where you got the idea that the load was 600+ lbs so I didn't know if you were just assuming the plates were that heavy.

I don't doubt the guy is strong I was just wondering if he knew the weight to be that much or was guessing.

With all due respect..
You assume too much about everyone being doped up, Mason.
I guarantee you that not one of the Swedish top Track and Fielders that are currently in the top of their respective sports, are "doped up".
They are definitely lifetime naturals.

Mason is starting to sound like Crotch.

That dude's a badass. All that weight on the bar looked incredible.
-
at least we can see the bar benting under all that weight. Ever wonder why the Bar never bent on those pics you see in the Flex Magazine? ;D ;D
-
I'm not buying it. The dude has scrawny arms and doesn't resemble a powerbencher at all. Plus, with the uneven pressing at that weight would have put way too much stress on the one side that fell behind. The weights are clealy not the 45s we see here in the states and looked more like rubber coated smaller weights. Let's say they were 30 lbs. 180 on each side would cause a bar to bend if the weight was distributed all the way to the edge of the bar as seen here.
I call fake lift, fake weights, or fake claim (amount).
And as we all know passing IOC level drug tests doesn't mean jack squat, at least according to Floyd Landis, Lance Armstrong, Marion Jones, Justin Gatlin, Kelli White, Tim Montgomery, and shotputters CJ Hunter and Randy Barnes -- all BUSTED after years of passing tests.

few things to remember, strength training doesn't mean training for size, no doubt they do experience hypertophy but not to the extent of a bber, most of the training we do it for the cns. And his arms are actually massive.
If I knew how to post pics, you would see how massive he really is.
The lift is actually legit, it has been long known that he is the only man in track and field today who can push 600+ on the bench, I just shared it with you becuase it seems all you guys on here really like the bench press. And yea each plate is 20k. I believe it was 620 and he added 2lbs for each clip on the side. he is a world class athlete, who has better things to do then have fake lifts on the internet. It was the end of the season, and he just probably decided what the hell and decided to max out, you don't do this type of stuff inseason.
Ed, the testing is alot better these days, Barnes got caught twice thus what gave him his lifetime ban.

Well, I would reserve judgement on saying Lance and Floyd are "BUSTED". Recently, cyclist Genevieve Jeanson of Canada was exonerated from using EPO after testimony by a Belgium researcher, Dr. Joris Delanghe:
http://velonews.com/news/fea/11252.0.html
I would not stake my life on the results from an EPO test, that's for sure. I spent several years as an analytical chemist in a testing lab. I could make PCB's in waste water appear and disappear "at will" . Its very easy to make mistakes when measuring low levels of anything, be it EPO, PCB's, DDT, etc.
Unfortunately in this day and age, there are users of performance enhancing drugs and there are innocents accused of using them. The difficulty in getting true test results, either because of test weaknesses, incompetence, or manipulation of results by labs (yes, it does happen - I have seen it firsthand) leads to a further clouding of who is and isn't using.
We have entered into the era of total doubt. Any peak athletic performance will always be portrayed as due to cheating, I'm afraid.

I hope this works, he is not skinny.
-
I don't know how to make it so it pops up, but I have to go to class, cya

No hes not skinny he`s fucking huge,at 6,6 he must be well over 300lbs there

Special "you are usually close to right" Ed, you may be off here. Lighter weight would NOT bend the bar like that and bounce like that.

How much lighter weights would it take to bend a bar like that. I can't see anything fake in this video clip. yes, these 45lbs maybe plastic coated, thus making them look bloated, but it's still a 45lbs plate

This guy would have to weigh about 400 to have "big" arms at over 6'6. His arms are prob about 22 inches.

Very impressive...and without specific training. Have you ever seen tank Abbot with his easy 600 bench? Sure he bounces it and arches, but for a guy into fighting and also not specifically training for bench press it's impressive. He also throws 315 around for upright rows easily, not good but easy.
-
It is real. He has done 645 before for a single, it looks like he could have done a double with that weight. He obviously trains his bench really hardcore(his technique for throwing depends on it) but he isn't a specialist and he has a huge rom no arch.
-
wow warrior_code, thanks for posting. incredible strength!
-
Very good raw lift, he bounced a lil on the chest but he didnīt ge much advantage of it,
an the rom with his long arms is pretty long too.
-
I could be wrong. It happened once before. But 455 does bend some bars and that's with the weights tight in close to the middle of the bar. Obviously the laws of physics dictate that the further out to the edge of the bar the weights are, the greater bend we will see in the bar near the fulcrum point.
I don't think a bending bar is enough to say it's 622 lbs. The weights still look funny to me. Ivanko plates don't look like that either.

You can all look for some throwing videos of him and see for yourself that he has to have a lot more then just a good (super) bench press to throw far:
http://www.macthrowvideo.com/annual_2006.htm
That makes him even more impressive in my opinion.
Here is also a link to a page with previously mentioned Randy Barnes and his bench press max video:
