Title: tuna...what seperates the addicted from the rest.
Post by: ATOMIC on December 03, 2006, 06:59:41 PM
I had to go take an exam yesterday, two parts with a break inbetween of 30 min or so. I walk to the guys bathroom with my water and crack my 2 cans of tuna and throw them down in the usual 2 min. and you should see the look on guys faces. Mind you these are all trainers and strength and conditioning guys and they were just looking at me like I was the alien or something... ;D

I hate tuna but love canned salmon. As for spices & such I just pour hot sauce on it.

yeah i could do that for about a year. 2-4 cans every single day.

Now i haven't eaten tuna for a few month, i am slowly trying to eat it again, simply was overfed with it.

you'll probably experience the same.  ;D

I don't think they were looking at you funny because you were eating tuna. I think it had more to do with that fact that you were dining in the shitter.  ;D

Yeah, the lemon pepper is awful, soo bitter. I personally spend just a little more money to get the white albacore. The taste is a huge improvement compared to the other.

Little bit of (spicey) tomatoketchup does the trick.

A simple salad with some rice or small potatoe makes you able to eat it a couple of times a day.

Mercury :)

Stay away from albacore (higher levels than light tuna) and you're fine.

See e.g., "Health Threat of Mercury Overblown, Scientists Say"

All types of tuna have high mercury; more than a few cans weekly's supposed to be bad for the system. Why not use chicken, turkey, salmon, etc. sometimes instead?

Downing that in a couple of minutes sounds insane; eating normally's ok dude.

The amount of food I buy/eat puts a strain on the family budget.  I'd love to eat canned chicken breast more often but its about 3X the cost of the tuna.  I consume about 10 cans of tuna per week (2X per day on weekdays).  If there was a cheaper protin source, I would consider using it.

Why should you eat every day meat (fish/chicken/cow etc)

Try to have two vegetarian day's a week. Only some pasta, tofu, beans, low-fat cheese (quark/ricotta).

The alternative for canned tuna is frozen tuna.
Over here it costs about 1,70 for 250 grams and it contains two pieces. You can make you own hamburgers with it, exactly the right size for a sandwich.

And about budget,
quark costs only a 49 cents and contains over 50 grams of proteine. Perfect food for the evening,
very low (no) fat, low carbs, plenty of proteine. You only have to get used to the taste, familiar to yoghurt.

Albacore is my favorite also, I down about 2 cans every day during the week, my co-workers hate the smell of it though.

squeeze out the water in the can and squeeze a bunch of frenchs mustard on it.  Great, and low/no caloroie.  Don't try with honey dijon though, not too good.
