One of the highlights of the Arnold Classic 98 was the "bench press" challenge by Jimmy"Iron Bull" Pellechia.Ronnie Coleman took up the challenge and benched 225 pounds for a total of 79 reps as compared to jimmy's 59 reps!Even more impressive is the fact that Ronnie put in a heavy chest workout just a day before at World Gym.I watched him do incline bench press with 6 plates for 8 reps followed by benches with 8 plated for 8 reps. This effort had to have weakened him somewhat for the bench press contest the next day.You cant trully appreciate the size and shape of Ronnie Coleman unless u meet him in person.

-

-

nope..i got this from musclemayem.com... ;)
-
That has to mean a total of 6 and 8 plates.
That is what I thought originally. But why wouldn't the guy just say 315 and 405?
-

Like cap said, the poster must have meant total plates. Not plates per side. I think the 225 for 79 reps happened at the Arnold?
-
It happened. This is like the 10th thread on it. I think Mindspin was there.

this is the first time i ever heard about this...
-
i think that is possible. At a strongman-contest held at the fibo (Essen/Germany) several years ago i saw
3 or 4 guys who pressed the 100 kg (220 lbs) for more than 70 reps. And Ronny is def. one of the strongest Bodybuilder ever.
-
@shadow: If you are soooo curious about that BS why don't you ask him personally?? ::)

i was at the expo when he did it as well, jim basically asked him to stop LOL He was fucknig owned
-
the story is true.
its in one of the few musclemags that i have.
the guy who wrote in had a picture of him and coleman together shaking hands.
-
it says for a "total" of 79 reps as if maybe there was more than one round of lifting?? Just a thought--
-
this is the first time i ever heard about this...
We have seen from your past threads that it takes you a while to come up with *breaking* information and you are the expert at basesless claims from a wide range of different subjects LoL....
-
Deca, Winstrol, Anadrol.....etc why wouldn't Ronnie press 225lbs for 79reps ;D
-
Pellechia was challenging anyone to a bench for reps challenge, and unfortunately Ronnie took him up on it... ;D
I think it was 72 reps, and then Ronnie told Pellechia that he gave him "something to shoot for".
Nice owning from Ronnie of one of the bigger clowns in the fitness industry.
Pellechia is notorious for doing Kamali-style benchpressing. ;D
You know, 5 spotters.
YIP
Zack
-
So ronnie bench pressing 225lbs for 79 reps, that's equal to 731lbs for 1 rep

dont forget the spot from the forklift.

Jeff Everson was a witness to the lift(s). Known as a straight shooter throughout the weight lifting world, he printed it in his Planet Muscle Magazine, and I think it was also reported in a number of magazines, by other authors as well.

LOL or 535lbs at a bodyweight of 181 :).
-
Doing that is many reps with 225 is not out of the question in fact I would expect him to do at least that many. Most serious lifters in Hawaii know who Francis Silva is (known as coach) and he did an exhibition a few years ago at Windward Mall and did 225 for 70 reps. He is 5'5" around 240 or so. I always did my finishing set with 225 and did 40 to 50 reps and that was after a full bench workout. Thats actually I measure my strength. I can barely do 30 reps now so I know I am very weak compared to what I was.
-
Big variations in ROM in these events, would have to see the videos.
-
usually when people do high reps...they dont use a Full ROM
they just do them with the bottom half of the lift and extend half way.
no way anyones triceps can take 70+ reps with 225lbs...unless your T.A probably ::)
