I think hes got a good argument, maybe not to the letter but his achievements should get the respect and cash they deserve!
How do you think that bodybuilding ruins power lifting?
I'm not going to say that it ruins our sport but it definitely puts our sport on the back burner. We may not all be ripped with abs of steel and have dark Caribbean tans, but we work our asses off and we deserve a piece of that pie. Why should a bodybuilding show pay a $100,000?
And we are lucky to get $2000. Shouldn't supplement companies look at us also? Don't we use a vast majority of there products also. How can a Bodybuilder live a million dollar lifestyle, but George Halbert has to bust his ass at a 40 hour a week job and then do all his training on top of that. You know a lot of theses hardcore guys say they do it for the love of the sport, but you can't tell me if you were making some greenbacks off this sport you wouldn't love it more. Why do we have to be the Black Sheep of the weightlifting world? It is time for Companies to realize that there is a group of people out there that are just as addicted to the taste of iron as the Big Vascular Ripped guys you have on your bottles of testosterone boosters. Bigger benches squats and deadlifts will sell products just as fast as a ripped guy in a thong. I do want to thank the Companies out there that do recognize our sport Inzer, Metal, Titan, House of Pain, and MHP

Mike Wolfe needs to ask himself one question:
Is making a 100% effort to be the best he can be?
When I read what he eats and how he trains, it is clear to me that he is not.
He eats tons of junk food and seems to be somewhat lazy with the GPP.
YIP
Zack
-
well if he eats that much junkfood maybe he can get a sponsordeal for a fast food chain
-
People are paid what the market dictates.
While a BBing contest is uber gay to the audience, a PLing show can be worse. The average layman can't really comprehend the guy benching 700 pounds vs. 900 pounds. They can root for a ripped Dexter vs. a huge Ruhl.
-
lifters need to get into their thick skulls that people care more about looks than strength.
nobody gives a shit if you bench so and so much.

hahaha, that's why everyone in the gym stops and watches when someone benches 500 plus or squats 700 plus. ::)

Dont the avg public love WSM?

yeah they probably stop and wonder who's that grunting fat fuck is and what the hell he's doing.
you think anyone in the real world gives a shit about how much someone squats or deadlifts?

you do, otherwise you wouldn't have so much emotion and anger invested in your answer.

i do so therefore there should be way much more money involved in the sport of lifting? yeah that make sense.

if i was a betting man i'd wager that you were in the gym benching 115 for a set of 6 and the local powerlifter came in and lifted you off the bench when he saw you using it and picked you up and sat you in the water fountain.

i dont bench. and how much you bench is as interesting as how much you fart. maybe you can have people compete in that and then bitch about why they don't earn any serious money.
and it would still suit your definition - people would stop and look.
-
WSM - they fight in circles, they pull buses, they carry trees.
They don't do the same 3 lifts for a 3 inch ROM all day.
-
First off, how many have even been to a PL show. I went to the National Masters in New Orleans a few years back with 2 clients and their were way more competitors than fans and with a 10 dollar ticket, how can you split $$? Most people who were staying at the hotel kinda of looked like it as a freak show and hit the city instead. This was a national show with about 100 paid fans. Most were their to cheer on friends or family. The numbers just aren't their to make it a sport that will be the lifters only income. Even bodybuilders are few and far between to just make a living off BB.
Power lifting is and always will be a sport of love not of riches. You either love to see how much you can lift, without regard for what you look like or you can lift for astectics. People would rather pay to see astectics over sheer power.
-

There are similarities, as most WSM guys have PL backgrounds, in effect we agree that to make PL more markeatable they gotta change things ???or just keep it as a sideshow.

very good point, powerlifting today is a joke, if the "sport" was more like it was in the 70's with next to no suits, shirts, etc. and guys lifting through a normal ROM and not all of the head banging, face slapping, screaming, 10 guys on the platform with you squatting, etc. it would be more popular.
-
Who ???
Flex and several others have spinners

True, you can tell who the fuck is who, or whats what.

That's a fact. WSM are way more popular than a PL meet. Just the different and crazy feats of strength are way more entertaining than watching dudes do the same 3 lifts and walking around like mummy's with all the bench shirts, squat suits and dead lifting suits. Now talk about stuffing 10lbs. of shit in a 5lb. bag.........
The fact is that power lifting meets, unless your competing, are a boar to most. That's the bottom line, no fans no cash. Keep your day job.

Bodybuilding competition = snore fest.

The bottom line is: A six pack gets way more ass than a six hundred pound benchpress.

I'm not quite sure where this guy is coming from...
Whats his point? If his sport needs sponsorship/ contracts for the athletes,etc....great...go get them tiger!
He says.."We need a piece of that pie..." WHAT PIE? BB has their own pie, which gets split up however it gets portioned out...
Powerlifting has whatever they have...which has absolutely nothing to do with BB. If the fans supported it more, they would have more money...plain and simple.
It sounds like he's got his wires crossed...don't be pissed off at the industry, be pissed off at the lack of fans/interest you have.

Schmoe pie.

monster truth.

that being said WSM isnt that popular either
It's on ESPN about 5 times a day. Sometimes back to back on weekends and they've been doing it for years so it must draw the sponsors.

let me correct you my retarded , unninformed friend. Mike eats cleaner then you, he is around 320 maybe less, he's a top 10 in the world bench press competitor, and if you are that curious...send him a pm and he'll get into details. But i hate when pencilnecks such as yourself make assumptions without being informed. On the other hand powerlifters train their ass off, incredibly disciplined and are more of an athlete then bodybuilders. PERIOD.

i thought you said that you don't care about strength, "big guy".
-
OH...NOT TO FORGET...HIS GOAL IS 900 AND HE MIGHT BE THERE ALREADY...IN THE GYM...
-
not when i bodybuild. I also did powerlifting and mike wolfe helped me with my bench. Just that bodybuilding is more than lifting heavy.

well if you wold've powerlifted seriously you wouldn't be asking that question. I suggest you give it a try, as I believa it'll help your bodybuilding

What's your definition of a "clean" diet? Cuz I remember reading many a post from Mike about how he likes to suck down big-macs and soda and whatever other shit food he can get his hands on (pizza, fried chicken, beer, etc).
And, I know from the pics he's posted that he's got more bf% than even I do. So sure, maybe he eats egg whites and oatmeal all day (doubtful), but eating so much that you have a 72" gut (that, btw, he seems to be very proud of), by my definition, is not eating "clean"...it's eating gross
Again...you need to update your info....
-
Just ask this - what would the general population rather look like. A power lifter or a bodybuilder ??? And like 240 and the Chicster pointed out it's all about the demand from the public - and lets not even get into female power lifting.
-
around 60 lbs lighter

Dude had a post over on the strongman board where he said he "Got DOWN to 360 from like 400lb or some shit like that" now I have nothing at all against this dude, but he's stated on many occasions that he eats all the crap he can get his hands on - but lately he's been eating better shyt. But dude get's mad props cause he can raw bench 500 for 8 reps :o - I think he's sponsered also.

You're entitled to your opinion of course.
You claim that I am uniformed. Well. The below quotes are from Wolfe. They discuss his diet. Other has been posted as well. Your comment?
RCCS,
The biggest thing I did in my diet is cut out all of the junk!!! No sugary snacks no McD's burgers, no BK 2 whoppers for 3 bucks. Just cut out all the junk and replaced it with good, and then cut out all of my carbs later in the day. No carbs for me after my 1pm meal. I upped my protein by supplementing in 250 grams a day by drinking At Large Nutrition Nitrean Shakes and just trying to get at least 150- 200 grams out of my food intake.
As far as the squat you are totally asking the wrong guy on that one. I can tell you how to squat with good form but to raise it you would be better off going to the westside barbell webpage and reading up on Lou's training articles you will get much much more info from them then I alone could give you.
Wolfy!!!!
And this is what he USED to eat:
Oh shit, I've been called out :)
Here is exactly what I ate last Sunday, the day I train at Westside!!! I just wrote all this out in an interview last Sunday night, they asked me exactly what I ate that day so here it is.
Wolfy!!!!
MW: Hahaha do you really wanna know that? Yesterday was Sunday and Max Effort day in Columbus. I drive 2 hrs one way to train and leave my house at 5 am. So my first meal was at 5 am it was 2 Bacon, Egg and Cheeses on a Bun, a Fifth Avenue King size Candy bar, and a Giant 44 oz Mountain Dew fountain pop. My second meal was at McDonalds around 9:30 am after we trained it consisted of 2 orders of Sausage Gravy and Biscuits, a Bacon Egg and Cheese biscuit, and a Large Cherry Coke(2 actually I refilled). I got home around noon had a protein shake, then did some errands. I hit the quikee mart while out got a Blue Slurpee and a Beef Jerky. Got back home had another protein shake. Then around 5 pm I ordered a king size pepperoni pizza(20 inches) from Westside Carryout (go figure) I ate probably close to a third to a half of that. Then had another protein shake around 8 pm and then another one at 10 pm. Haha I asked if you really wanted to hear it. My diet on the weekend is really hectic, thru the week it is alot better and more regulated. i'm just always on the go on the weekend so I eat when I can and it is never really healthy.
Mike eats cleaner then you
How do you know that?
YIP
Zack
PS
Anyone have any idea of the calorie count on his previous one day feed? My guesstimation would be around 12 000 calories.

Neither bodybuilding nor powerlifting will ever be that popular in the mainstream because of one thing - DRUGS.
Both disciplines are destined to be underground sub-cultures (not sports) and that's the way they'll stay - certainly in our lifetime. There ain't gonna be no "million-dollar lifestyles" in either.

What's kind of funny is that many, if not most mainstream (baseball, basketball, football) athletes take drugs too, it's just kept on the down low. A lot of NFL players do a cycle of steroids in the offseason (when they don't test) and then use small amounts of GH during the season to make sure they pass drug tests.
-
That's what pisses me off - all the big sports get away with it. We all know they're doing it but it's catching them that's the problem. TV owns these big names and where there's money, there's corruption. Bodybuilding and powerlifting are easy targets because their big names aren't as popular.

ok..here we go....NFL, MLB, ATHLETICS, ETC, ETC ETC ARE ALL BUILT ON ROIDS...GET USED TO THE IDEEA. CARL LEWIS WAS ON THE SAME SHIT BEN JOHNSON WAS ON....NOW....DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH SKILL IS INVOLVED...DRUGS PLAY A BIGGER OR SMALLER ROLE. UP TO A CERTAIN POINT YOU CAN DEVELOP SKILLS. ALL PRO ATHLETES IN EVERY SPORT AT ANY LEVEL HAVE SKILL. WHAT SEPARATES AT A HIGH LEVEL OR FROM A POINT ON GUYS FROM "GALS"...IS STRENGTH AND ATLETICISM. AND BODYBUILDING AND POWERLIFTING ARE SO MUCH MORE THEN DRUGS.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT?... hedgehog?...well i talked to the guy...i asked him what he ate exactly during a day when he was 410 or so...and how he eats now...why he lost the weight...and so on.

From what I recall, you have never asked me what I eat.
That's why I am curious why you make a comparison between Wolfe's diet and mine.
Once again:
How do you know that he eats cleaner than I do?

Holy Shit guys how the hell did i miss a WHOLE THREAD about my fat ass!!! Haha makes me happy people are taking a look at my views. The whole point of what I was saying is that supplement companies market BB which is good I'm a HUGE BB fan, but why not Market more Powerlifting, we use the same products. Why not try and move more in that direction some also. But I will say there a few companies out there that are doing just that. My sponsor At Large Nutrition is making HUGE Strides in powerlifting and MHP, and Muscletech are also pushing professional powerlifting. I did not get into lifting to make money, but hey if there is money to be made why not?
As for my diet yeah it is pretty fucking clean right now. I'm making sure I get more then enuf protein, and eating about as clean as anyone else on here. I'm sitting in the high 330's I know that is still fat to most of you but seeing as how that is down from a size 50 pants to a loose 42, and 416 pounds down to high 330's that is a vast improvement. And I am actually stronger now then everbefore on all of my lifts. My goals are to get down to under 308 so I can compete there, and to hit triple bodyweight in contest there.
Later Bitches!!! Wolfy!!!!!

A six pack might get you more pussy, but looking like this gets you a lot more respect. I could see the "400lb bench club" scramble like roaches when this dude walks into the bar.
-
Umm, Joan Cusack is a better actress than Heather Graham by a lot, but who gets all the lead roles and endorsement deals? Heather Graham because she LOOKS 500 times better. Same thing with BB's and powerlifters. Just the way it is.
-
Yeah I know, good looks=good money :) Fuck I'm working on it Hahaha!!!
Me at 340!!!! That is almost 80 pounds lost!!!

so true. people forget that people may want to look like bodybuilders, but they always start out training thinking like powerlifters. they want to bench more than they can handle, squat more than they can, and deadlift more than they can safely handle.
imagine a picture of wolfe benching 800+ or a konsti deadlifting 900+ in an ad for BSN true-mass. here's the question, which would make you buy a supplement more:
