the other day i was watching blood and guts and damn yates finishes his arm and chest workouts under half an hour and jay cutler also finishes most of his workouts under 30 minutes..today i tried to finish my delt workout under 30 minutes but ended up doing in 45 minutes..so how many of you can finish your workouts under 30 minutes?
-
I finish faster then most mortals. I never start
-
I used to when I was just doing a few sets and one muscle group. Right now I'm doing more sets and have a upper body-lower body split so it's not possible.

Jay Cutler finishes his workouts in 30 minutes?? i dont think so. Jay trains high volume. takes alot of time.
Yates on the other hand i could see that as hes more of a low volumer.

jay does finishes some of his workouts..not all..maybe chest i guess

When I was first starting out I was doing 2 hr long workouts. Now, I'm trying to aim at about the 1 hr mark so my intensity doesn't drop off.
-
I've tried..and i've gotten done some chest workouts in about 35-40 minutes but that seems awful tough even if you do just 12 sets..
-
jay cutler also finishes most of his workouts under 30 minutes
Where did you hear this?
-
most of the guys in my gym are not even on their 3rd set of flat bench in 30 minutes ::)
-
Usually takes me an hour to an hour and 15 minutes to finish mine.
-
Where did you hear this?
On his videos he seriously does like 6 or 7 excercises per body part and like 5 to 6 sets per.
His Chest workout on Cutabove includesd: Incline Press Bar, Incline Press Dumbell, Flat Dumbell Flye, Flat Bench Press, Pec Dec Flyes and Cable Cross Overs.
30 minutes, :o

45 seconds per set, with no rest between any of his 40 sets.
Jay Cutler is truly a world class athlete!

TA finishes his 'workouts' at the male sauna in less than 20min -- desnt even take the goggles off son
-
chest and back = 40 mins
Shoulders and arms = 40 mins
Legs = 35 mins

Serge asked "what athlete only trains 45 min a day"
He went on to say he trained like 3 hours a day...i didnt want to call bull shit on a legend
-
I could finish my workouts in that amount of time......IF PEOPLE WOULD STOP TALKING TO ME IN THE GYM EVERY SECOND!!!!!
-
damn i just posted 13 seconds after bsb, and since you can only post every 30 seconds we cant be the same person >:(

arthur jones had casey viator doing full body workouts in about 25 minutes, all the machines were set up for him and the workouts were so brutal at the end arthur actually had guys carry casey from the nautilus tri machine to the dipping bars. If I had people to load up the equipment I was gonna use and warmed up the right way I could do all my working sets in under a half an hour, I don't have that though so it takes me about 45 minutes to get through a workout on my current routine. Today I'll do chest, shoulders and tri's and I should done in enough time to get a max ot cardio session in..but I think I'm gonna skip the cardio today cause I'm a little worn out.

I started training high volume a few months back. Needless to say, it works for me. I still throw in sets of 6- 8 reps most of the time. Here is a sample chest workout. I did this last night. The workout took me 1 hour and 20 min to complete.
Incline barbell press : 5 sets of 12 -15 reps
Machine Fly : 6 sets of 12 reps
Flat bench fly : 5 sets of 10 - 12 reps
Hammer strength flat press 5 sets of 12 - reps. 8 reps on the last 2 sets
Dumbell pullovers : 5 sets of 10 - 12 reps
Upright bench press machine 5 set drop set

I don't see the point of doing that much work, just my opinion though if it works for ya go for it. I'd rather train mega heavy-for me and get in and out. I like working out and all but I don't want to be in the gym for hours at a time day in day out.
-
No, I have decided to go 100 percent natural. I was natural before, but took creatine and a host of other suppliments. I drink a coffee then just get it done.
-
31 sets for chest alone...that's like three chest workouts for me...i'd be fried for days..

I understand what you are saying. I was training heavy and decided I just do not have the structure for it. I like to feel the pump and need alot of reps to get it going.
Volume is def not for everyone. My muscle tends to look more full now. For whatever reason I do not get tired from this ???

The weight is moderate. So it is manageable. I also only work one major bodypart per week. I do not know why I like to train this way. I just started doing it and never stopped. I am not exaggerating either. This was my exact workout last night.
The drop set was easy.

I can dig it. I let these fools on here turm me away from high volume training. But it is better for me too. When i go dumb heavy i get big but i also get hurt with little to no pump. im all about the 80 min workouts. do you train alone.
-
Forgot to mention the warmup set is included in the 5 set total in the latter stages of the workout.

my structure for the most part is good for heavy training, once i decide to go heavy on a movement i usually progress pretty fast on it.

I train alone. I cannot concentrate when I am working out. My gym is not a serious gym either. So most the people are there to talk anyway. I talk a bit before I start, but after that I just lift.
I see no issue with 30 plus sets per major bp if you work them in a weekly cycle. I love it.

Mine are done in roughly 9-11 min.

I assume you are more of a pure mesomorph? I am an ecto mesomorph. If I had to compare my structure to a pro it would be identical to that of Serge Nubret. Obviously not on par with the level of development he showed. Speaking of bones and shape of course.
-
With a gym in the store I get to workout when ever I have down time. Rarely do I get 30 min of undisturbed workout time, but clients get off when I train with them. I spend about an hour if I figured it out, but answering the phone, a customer, sales rep or someone else is always bothering me when I want to get a good non interrupted workout, so I come in an hour before opening, get a good one in, go home shower, come back and do it all over again, but not with the intensity of my early, by my self workout. Today is legs, so every break I do a set of leg presses or any other leg exercise. By 5:00 the legs are fried and I need a walker to make it to my car.
-
Chest workout today. Five sets. Two dumbell presses. One set neck press and two machine presses for feel/finish. Fried in less than twenty. :)

I have mesmorphic tendencies along with some endo thrown in there, I'm not the kind of guy who can walk up to a bench and throw around 315+ whenever I want but I can if I concentrate on that movement for awhile. I don't have any problems gaining weight when i want to, I have a little trouble getting ripped but I have not had to be in shape for along time. short stocky physique.

45 minutes sounds about right, unless I do just 1 bodypart, and 30 is plenty.
-
Trimming the time between sets actually gives me a really nice cardio boost.
-
I do workouts under 30 minutes every now and then, especially when I'm pressed for time. It's brutal, mostly a ton of drop and/or supersets, but I tell you I get the most intense soreness after these short workouts. Intensity in weight-lifting can be increased by either:
--doing your same workout with increased weight
--doing your same workout with the same weights, but increase in reps
--doing your same workout with same weight and reps, but in a decreased amount of time
My chest workout last month was a personal record 15 minutes--including warm-ups! I had a busy day and had to get the workout in...but I was just as sore if not more than if I spent an hour doing them.

All my workouts are 40 - 50 minutes tops. Last night I did 20 sets for shoulders and got it done in 40 minutes. No more than 30 seconds rest in between. My motto is to go in, go hard, go fast....and get out!
Just like with a woman!! ;D

Haha. I had a bud who used to say about sex: 'get in; get out; no one sees anything - just like a heist' ;)
-
My workouts are usually 30-45 minutes..sometimes I can bang chest out in 25 minutes
-
mine are an hour to an hour and half. depends what im training, and how i feel on that day. Legs and back take longer for me, with chest, arms or shoulders I can just tell when im done.
-
Half hour sessions are rare for me, particularly on days where I do certain exercises (e.g., pullups) that I like to take up to 5 minutes rest between.
-
Back and legs take time, about an hour,
mainly due the time between sets, have to focus mentally,
chest and shoulders within 30 minutes.
-
I got legs done last week in 30 mins. I was about to leave wen my friend came in, he asked how long id been and was surprised wen i sed only 1/2 hour, as i looked absolutley nackered!!

high volume rules. 90min of pure high volume. body parts 2 times per week. 80% of the time.20% of time throw in lighter weeks and some weeks of lower volumer and heavier training to push the poundages..and then use the strength to go back to higher reps (8-10). never ending cycle. often the magic happens when you change workout programs.

Friday I did Chest, shoulders and Tri's all done in DC fashion...in and out in about 45 minutes but I took my time between movements and did something special for chest at the end. Today it's Calfs, Hams and Quads along with a little ab work, I'll be done in under an hour but I don't think I could be in and out in under 30 minutes.
-
damn i feel like i didnt to anything if im in there for one bodypart for under an hour.
-
Today I did legs, in and out in under an hour, went something like this...all done in DC training fashion:
Calves: 435*14 reps, 5 count negative and hold in the stretched position for a 15 count then explode up, if you're honest with yourself each rep should take 20 seconds. By the end my legs are shaking like mad then I take a 20 second break and start pumping out partial reps..I got 30 partials. I added 5lbs this workout and 1 additional rep.
sumo leg press. 465*15. These are done feet high up on the leg press, pushing with the heels, slow negatives and explosive positive reps then I did a 20 second static and a 1 minute stretch on each leg. 5lbs increase and reps stayed the same.
Leg press-875*8, up 5 lbs and 1 more rep, my max on this was 905 for 4 reps, I backed off and upped the reps so I'm trying to hit 905 for 6-8 reps this time, I did a 20 second static unloaded the machine and went over to the life fitness leg press for 1 set of 20 which is called a "widowmaker" wehn you do DC. I'm still trying to find a movement that I like for my Widowmaker this is the first time I ever used this machine, did my 20 reps.
Then I did 2 sets of 12 on the hammer crunch machine with light weight.

Mine are more like 2-3 hours long :o

Brutal polar opposite to HIT training.

Brutal polar opposite to HIT training.
I train similar to serge, everything (but legs) twice a week and high volume with high reps.

Why not legs twice a week? From what I've read, out of any muscle group, they can withstand the most work.

Cause I like to be able to walk normal at-least a few days a week ;D Nah but I like to have energy left for the weekends so if some friends want to throw the football around I can be the receiver (shoulders can't take much throwing). My legs get destroyed on leg day cause of the high volume and since that day I only work quads, hams and lower back that's 2-3 hours of just beating those parts till I can't take anymore. I have thought about doing them twice a week but also I like to have the weekends off to be lazy and heal up from the week.
-
it takes me 1 hour and ten minutes or a few minutes less that includes stretching warms ups and and everything. i dont take much rest time between sets i ussally set up the wieghts for my next exersize in between sets. i do 8sets for big muscle groups legs back chest delts and for smaller bis tris calves 5-6 sets. i remember when i got laid off i was unemployed for a few months with the extra rest i was able to do like 15 works for big and 9 for small but thats to much with work and school etc etc.
-
It depends alot on rest period between sets.
I do 5x5 on all exerces and all body parts and workout never takes me more than 1 hour. On average about 45 minutes. Old days I used to hang in the gym for 2 hours but I find it a waste - one should keep high intensity and minimise rest between sets. I blieve you can only keep max intensity within first 40 minutes - after that you begin slacking.
-

Mine always take me between 45 minutes to 1 hour, but never more than an hour. I've always wondered how someone could get a good quality intense workout done in less than 30 minutes... ;)

for me personally it sometimes takes 2-3+ hours to finish a workout. but i lift at home so setup time for certain excersises can take more than it would at the gym.
