Title: MEN: Washing B4 &/or After
Post by: Princess L on December 07, 2006, 07:46:39 PM
This topic was on another board, but it didn't get much play.

The main question is:  Men: Do you wash your hands before using the restroom and/or after?

I do both. I don't want any germs on my hammer   ;) before I go and obviously afterwards. I'll tell you this ladies, you'd be surprised how many don't wash their hands. The thought of it is repulsive.

There are plenty of women at work who don't either. So imagine, you've just washed your hands, and then you touch the doorknob while exiting which has been touched by all kinds of people who don't wash their hands. I usually do the handiwipe thing at my desk just to be sure.

In my college freshmen biology lab, we were given swabs and petrie (sp?) dishes for bacterial growth.  Our assignment was to try to find the dirtiest part of campus.  Our dishes sat in an incubator for 7 days.  We also tested the bacteria to see what exactly was growing on these sites.

You won't believe what grew the most bacteria....and was a combo of 5 different kinds as well.

My classmates purse strap!!!!

Surprisingly, the bathrooms we swabbed were not that bad.  Even underneath the toilet seat.  They were no worse than regular handles on doors, and drawer handles.  And they did not grow any serious bacteria, the ones that cause health risks.

There are 47 types of bacteria that grow in a "clean" human mouth!

That's comforting to hear about the bathrooms.  I'm sure it's mostly psychological with most people... and force of habit too.  But why would a purse strap carry all those bacteria?  Is this something common, or was her purse for some reason exposed to these bacteria?  Just curious if I should be wiping down my purses more often.

I propose that all male Getbiggers set a new precedent, which could carry over worldwide!  Out of respect for the women in your lives, wash BEFORE.  ;D

It only makes sense!

I don't really remember the girl that well (it was a few years ago), to remember if she was particularly "dirty"...but I'm not thinking she was.  Its just because your purse goes everywhere...bathroom, car, home, floor, restaurants..etc.  Since that time, I always clean my purse straps and bottoms with the anticeptic wipes.

What is scary about your purse...it carries multiple types of bacteria...and it goes where YOU go!!  How much bacteria are YOU contracting just carrying this thing around.  Now I see the idea behind the guy's wallet.

Its so nice to read about how clean these guys are!!  I'm hoping its the majority.  Ive always had the idea that the boys bathroom is a breeding ground for death....I feel better now.

I'm looking at my purse now, and I'm disgusted.  :)

Good info to have. It's true the purse ends up all over the place so god knows what you drage away with you.  I used to always have a thing about library books too. I always felt like wearing gloves before I picked up any reference book, imagining how many unclean hands smeared the pages before me.

...And yet, my dogs could lick tongues with me anytime and I loved every minute of it.  :D

To much clean will kill you, because it will keep you from building enough resistance against germs, dirt, diseases etcetera.

You people with this cleaning phobia should visit countries like China or India for a change. You've never seen something like 10 Chinese men squatting above what looks like an open sewer, shitting, farting, laughing, reading a paper and talking loud with each other like it's nothing unusual.  ;D

Thats so true...

I had a botany professor (yes, another college story) who was WAYYYYY WEIRDDDDD, he would actually eat out of the garbage can at parks because he said it kept his resistance to bacteria up.  He was not poor, or homeless, just had this serious idea. If you were going to throw away drink or snacks in his class...he would actually finish it off right there in front of you.  He ate anything after anybody!  It was disgusting...but on a positive note, he had not been sick in over 15 years.

And the hand sanitizer is a BIG NO NO!!!  It can actually make you sick after using it over a period of time.  The bacteria that grows on your hands, and under the fingernails is normal to your body, and most will create an immunity towards it.  But when using the hand sanitizer, it causes the bacteria to mutate to stay alive...thus, causing a stronger bacteria that will cause a lot more health problems.

i dont use public restrooms...unless its a dire emergengy...if i just have to pee in an emergency i'd rather use a bush than  a public restroom.

i wash my hands after i use the bathroom at home..

on the other hand, I'd prefer that they wash before.  If they need to after, that's up to them....

My mother taught us all boys and girls to wash your hands before and after using the toilet.  I now teach my kids the same, hence our bathroom and toilet is very busy.
