Post by: Jr. Yates on December 11, 2006, 10:48:56 AM
Lately i've been adding a bit of olive oil to my shakes (with water). Good idea?? I added up my daily fat intake and it was surprisingly lower than i thought.

maybe 20-25% ??? not sure. The only fat i get is, I cook with olive oil, i have about 3 yolks with eggs in teh morning, then my next few meals are chicken breast, maybe if i get a steak in there that helps....thats about it...I'll put peanut butter in a shake or olive oil now. I need to start taking Omegas.....I don't eat much salmon or other fish except tuna.

JR. intead of Olive Oil...try Coconut Oil....

-Raises healthy cholesterol which raises testosterone.
- Lowers LDL cholesterol.
- Anti-Microbial agent.
- Burns body fat due to it's high levels of Lauric acid.

Try getting a definitive % over a couple days.  You probably know this, but figure 9 cal per gram of fat, 4 cal per gram of protein/carbs.  When you multiply it out, it should be roughly in the same ball park as your total calories.  Then figure out your % fat intake over several days.

If you're over 20% you probably don't need an increase.  If you do need an increase, try fish oil capsules (3g to 6g).  Olive oil is very calorie dense, so  be careful with it-  but I would err on using it with cooking rather than in a shake (particularly if you don't want to slow absorption of the protein source).

Sure, go ahead and do that, I'd be happy to.  I enjoy crunching the numbers.  It's sort of an end-of the day pastime I have with my own nutritional log.

Another advantage of olive oil is that it is natural.
Other oils are chemically extracted.

Yet, you have to be careful of what kind of olive oil you buy. If it's Unrefined or Refined. If the olives are damaged or bruised, they ( and all the oil they contain) begin to spoil, and the oil pressed from them is such poor quality that it must be degummed, refinied, bleached, and deodorized like most commercial oils.
Yes, Oilve Oil does lower cholesterol ( but who is to determined what are cholesterol count should be.) It  doesn't turn into Lauric Acid, like Coconut Oil. Olive oil is a "Cycloarternol" which stores in the liver, unlike coconut oil which automatically turns into Lauric acid and burns body fat.
