Haha!!!!! Boras is saying that because of the new market the sox will be able to open in Japan. Analysts estimated the sox would make back there 50 million dollar investment by merchandising within a few years. D mat gear will sell like crazy over there. Not to mention the new fan base it will open up over here/in Japan. Seattle and Ichiro is proof of the money to be made!

The sox are not going to pay him like top, established, front line pitcher. It may appear they do. But there is no rule against the Lions using there own funds to make up the amount the sox will not pay. The rule only applies to the 50 million put down the Sox.  As long as the Lions do not dip into the 51 mill, and they use there own clubs money they can shoot dmat 8 or 10 mill to make the difference up.

This is a smart move imo. There is no young, fresh, front line pitching right now. With the exeption of Zito who is awful at Fenway. D mat is young , marketable and has one hell of a career record. He also pitched extremely well against mlb hitting at the world baseball classic. Most do not know the sox and other mlb  teams have been scouting this guy for sometime. I love how the "experts" are acting like this guy is coming out of nowhere. Once again the mainstream media talks shit without knowing the facts. They also fail to mention the sox will make back that 50 million, plus millions more with the new market they open up in Japan. All the indicators are there. At worst this deal keeps him out of the Yankees hands! With the type opf money teams are spending this season everyone is getting big bucks.

Dmat, Schilling, Becket, Paplebon ,Lester and Wakefiled? Sounds like a  damn good starting rotation to me!

The one two punch of Papi and Manny will now be a 1,2,3 combination. Drew is going to hit behind Manny. Drew is a 20 hr 100 plus rbi guy (143 games) , and the boy can hit!! Drew is a great defensive outfielder also. Drew has a history of missing games. But, changes have been made in his lifestyle and nutrition to turn this around. Lugo was another great bat the sox picked up. Good defensive player to boot. I am really happy with the moves Theo has made thus far. Th8is has been a tough offseason market. He still has 3 more to make also!

I agree. grade A shitbag. Can you believe the money players are getting this offseason macys?

Latest news on D mat is 6 years 8 - 10 million range. Surprising as I thought boras would be asking 45 million a season ::) They have agreed on the length now the real negotiations begin. There have been rumblings of going after Clemens also. he stated last year he would like to play in Boston again. If the dmat deal does not go through expect them to go after clemens. There is talk of bringing them both in also.

I heard about the deal for Andy. 16 mill for the season right? What else is new in Yankee land?

This one cracked me up. Gary Mathews Jr., career journeyman outfielder got a 5 year 50 million dollar contract coming off his first decent year of his ten year career. These salaries are sick. I like resigning Petitte. The Yankees starting staff is made up of one good young starter in Wang and four aging decent starters. Not exactly made up to win 5 and 7 game series in October.

I agree. Petitte was a great pick up. Are you guys still going after Zito?

I like Zito but I rather see the Yankees start developing some young players again. Zito is asking for about 6 years at 17 milllion per. I hate tying that kind of coin up in one guy. Plus I don't think Zito is the pitcher he was a 5 years back.

Right, he's worth $100 million and they already paid half of that, so that means there's $50 million left for the kid and Boras to split.
