Photographer Ed Taylor covered the 1981 Olympia for Iron Man Magazine. He wrote to Dan today and included some never-before-seen photos from the show. He said, "My main recollection of this contest was how good you looked. I had seen you before this, but had never seen you look this good. I saw on your website that you were amazed at the lack of photo coverage of this contest. These photos will only confirm what you and I and many others knew; you should have won."
You can see another shot by him at http://www.danpadilla.com/newpix.html

Danny is one of the greatest short BB of all times.
-
Danny got jobbed, and Franco got a gift.
-
Incredibly 25 years later, that same Padilla physique could still stand with today's pros and outclass 95% of them.
Whereas, Columbo would have trouble placing in the top 15 at the Nationals.

I wonder if anyone can post that pic where Franco has his posing trunks on backwards?
-
franco actually looks decent in that pic......

Danny all the way!

I agree with ya, I'm just sayin that's one of the better franco pics I've seen from that year.

Either Danny or Platz should have won that year but definitely not Franco. Without even counting his horrendous legs the gyno, especially on his right nipple, was practically oozing milk. Danny was absolutely flawless and perfect. Platz was jaw dropping. Toss a coin.
After the Arnold fiasco in 1980 and then the absolute travesty in 1981 I stopped following the sport for over twenty years. Missed the whole Haney/Dorian era and just caught the tail end of Coleman.
I'm kind of rooting for Coleman and want to see him do something that no one else will ever do. Anybody who was able to work a full time job, had to eat in his car, walk the treadmill at midnight, do lunges under the hot Texas sun, and stick with Metroplex throughout his career, has my vote.

I hear you. The judging, of course, has always been, let's just say an "issue" . . . but at the 1980 and '81 Olympias the IFBB just took it too far. It was like saying, "Yeah, that's right, we'll pick our 'boys' to win and there's nothing you can do about it" . . . It was WAY over the top . . . and coming, as it did, two years in a row with a laughable "fix" as the "champion", it completely devalued the Olympia title in my young eyes. I stopped following the sport around that time as well.

yeah, he looks decent, but no where near Padilla's condition and fullness, what a wicked robbery
-
I remember reading somewhere that Danny said that though he think he should have won if they gave it to either Platz of Callender
he wouldn't have felt so reamed.
-
yes they raped danny...fuckers.
-
Danny has better structure and shape in that pic but franco is fucking Ripped and looks very good too.
-
Franco also had one good wheel.
-
Doesn't even look close to me. Danny easily should have won.
