Yea, apparently, we went to the polls and voted for an escalation to the war :P
-
im very surprised the army hasnt already turned towards outsourcing mercenaries to reduce the number of "troops" overseas ... but i can assure you they are heading in that direction :)

Why can't they recruit hordes of underfed pakis, afghanis, mongols, etc. to swarm all US opponents? They would gladly steamroll this war for next to nothing & make an army of millions. ;)
Leave it to Bush to make a bumbled situation worse! Apparently he has absolutely no one with common sense around him that he'll listen to.

That's would make us kind of like ROME toward their end!

It would be a beautiful thing-swarming them with unwashed masses the same way the Iranians did in the 80s against the Iraqis. Who needs guns. ;)

Yes, I agree.........lets just pull out and GIVE UP and let the terrorists think they beat America the great "superpower" by just blowing themselves up and everyone around them, then they can come over here and do the same JUST LIKE THEY PLAN TO DO!!
Great stragity ::)!!

5 years later, the terrorists have won, having drawn America into this shithole while evading capture. Bin Laden & Zawahiri are still out there, should've been strung up years ago.

you piss on me and i'll shit on you. I agree somewhat, instead of more troops, i say pull all the troops out now and nuke the living shit out of Iraq, Iran, Syria, afghanistan.

Dude, you sound more like a murderous terrorist than a noble, brave American.
It's strange how far we've slid without noticing :(

why not declare, if you ever use WMD of any sort against us we will nuke Mecca and a few of your other holy sites.

The generals on the ground don't want more troops:
MCCAIN: Did you note that General Zinny who opposed of the invasion now thinks that we should have more troops? Did you notice that General Batise, who was opposed to the conduct of this conflict also says that we may need tens and thousands of additional troops. I don’t understand General. When you have a part of Iraq that is not under our control and yet we still — as Al Anbar province is — I don’t know how many American lives have been sacrificed in Al Anbar province — but we still have enough and we will rely on the ability to train the Iraqi military when the Iraqi army hasn’t send the requested number of battalions into Baghdad.
ABIZAID: Senator McCain, I met with every divisional commander, General Casey, the core commander, General Dempsey, we all talked together. And I said, in your professional opinion, if we were to bring in more American Troops now, does it add considerably to our ability to achieve success in Iraq? And they all said no. And the reason is because we want the Iraqis to do more. It is easy for the Iraqis to rely upon to us do this work. I believe that more American forces prevent the Iraqis from doing more, from taking more responsibility for their own future.

They did in a way already. From security to rebuilding, many things that would have been done by troops before are outsourced. The idea of fighting this with low troop amounts comes from how much of the war effort was to be privatized. And this war was/is massively privatized. Bush, never missing an opportunity for privatization being the Mussolini style fascist that he is... So basically, this war is a massive failed experiment in privatization... The companies for the most part did what they do best under an envirionment of ZERO oversight and exploited the situation for financial gain while doing the absolute minimum required and often not even doing that.
-
i dont see how you can call the war a failed experiment... they are doing exactly what they planned on, namely sustained chaos; not too many dead amreekans and a country on the brink of total chaos for what, like the past 3 years now? never gets much better or worse does it
but in that time they have fortified themselves and continued to set up not only military infrastructure, but commercial as well: ask the returning soldiers what they have been eating ;)

Well from that angle, you already know I agree with you 100%. But if someone were to make a case for privatization by using the Iraq and Afgan wars as examples of success, it wouldn't look good at all for their case.

Western culture exports?

if you think of success as stabilizing the region, you are correct
but when you stabilize the region you no longer need your troops over there and you have wasted billions to liberate a bunch of brown people you really dont give a fuck about ;D
240, replace culture with corporate ;)

In conventional warfare they can;t fight worth a shit. 30 Arabs = 1 US soldier
But insurgency/gorilla crap can be done by virtually anyone.

U.S. to maintain long presence in Gulf region: Gates
Reuters
Friday, December 22, 2006
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An increased U.S. naval presence in the Gulf is not a response to any action by Iran but a message to all countries that the United States will keep its regional footprint "for a long time", Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Friday.
CBS News reported on Monday that a projected naval buildup was intended to discourage what U.S. officials view as increasingly provocative acts by Tehran pressing for a nuclear program and support for Shi'ite militias in Iraq.
"I don't think it's a response to anything anyone else has done," Gates told reporters during a three-day visit to Iraq.
"I think the message that we are sending to everyone, not just Iran, is that the United States is an enduring presence in this part of the world. We have been here for a long time. We will be here for a long time and everybody needs to remember that - both our friends and those who might consider themselves our adversaries," he said.
The U.S. command responsible for Middle East operations has asked the Pentagon to add a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf region as a warning to Syria and Iran and to help it carry out other operations, according to a senior defense official.
The war-fighting Central Command wants the carrier strike group and its warplanes by end-March for "deterrence" and to increase "flexibility," including for potential noncombat operations, said the official who asked not be to be named.
Gates on Friday acknowledged the increased U.S. presence in the Gulf.
"There has been an increase in naval strength in the Gulf in the past several weeks," he said.
But the new defense secretary, who replaced Donald Rumsfeld on Monday, said he did not know if United States would send another carrier to the Gulf.

So much for a pullout.. Iraq could solve all its civil war porblems right now and they still wouldn't pullout.. ::)

Apparently your all for giving up....because thats exactly what it is!

I'mk not sure what we can "WIN" there.
The peace? the moment we leave they'll start the slaughter. The mission never was the peace, all should know that by now. protecting the oil ministry and bombing all the infrastructure on day one ensured 5 years of chaos. Your local city planner could tell ya that.
Longterm US permanent bases? We already have those being built ;)
Mission Accomplished!
